The American people are not falling for Russian disinformation and they dont believe the Russians are somehow justified. If this is really what profesionals in the National Security sphere think then I am extremnely concerned. The professionals in this field need to undersatand that the American people do not tust them. And after 20+ of abject failures and gaslighting can we blame them? We can have nuanced conversations about the war in Ukraine but the way the conversations go now and the way those who question the war are labeled "simps" assets and Putin apologists is extremly detremental and pours jet fuel on the fire. It has become the boy who cried wolf and people are not listening anymore. Another issue I take with your framing is this idea that somhow going to the negotiating table is appeasmeant like Chamberlain with the Nazis. That is just complelty incorect. We should pay attention to our history but the lessons also exists beyond the years 1939-1945. This example has been complely overused in the worst ways. The best example is how Lemay during the Cuban Missile crisis invoked this with JFK. Lucky for us Kennedy wasn't buying it. The Russian military has shown it is not the 7 days to the Rhine army that we once feared. The Russian black sea fleet is currently only operational as a reef or in ports far away from the fighting. The air force is complelty incapable of coordinating strikes with anything but standoff weapons. Ground forces are only successful because the Russian industrial and population base is able to support the grinding methodical tactics being used. This is not a military that is possed to seriously threaten NATO allies and in its current state woiuld have a very tough time with an invasion of the Baltics. Considering an invasion would trigger article 5 and open up Russian ground forces to targeting by a NATO air task force that would likely complety cripple it. On the issue of strikes within Russia it is a dangerious and foolish escalation of the war. Heres where the skeptics are wrong and you guys are short sighted. The Ukrainian civilians are the ones who are continuing to take the blows of the escalation not NATO. Authorizing these strikes with in Russia also has catastrophic strategic implications as well. So far Ukraine has done a great job of not killing Russian civlians. However these strikes could lead to that outcome and bring the war right to the civilain populace. Bringin the war home like that could give Putin what he needs in a galvanized populace and solve his manpower problems. This would most certainly give Russia the tools to win outright.h

It has been tragic to watch how putin has clearly understood the social and political cleavages in the US and manipulated those to make them not only doubt their alliances but to fight each other. Russia is far less powerful than the US but his disinformation campaigns have brought the US to its knees. No US ally can feel secure in any agreement as the US is now ideologically adrift under its new government that has no strategy except for short term transactions. Putin is rubbing his hands with glee.
