Cinema Wellness with Joshua Timpko

Добавлен 29 июн 2024
Hi, I'm Josh, and I absolutely love movies. How much do I love movies? Stick around and find out.
In this first video on my brand new RUclips channel, I dive into why I started Cinema Wellness. The internet is full of knowledgeable voices and unique perspectives on film and television, but it’s also saturated with negativity. I’ve observed this binary approach to art criticism for years, and it’s time to dismantle it.
At Cinema Wellness, my goal is to foster a positive and nurturing discourse about cinema. I believe every film has the potential to entertain, inspire, or teach us something new. This channel aims to reignite the passion for movies and remind us why we fell in love with cinema in the first place.
Expect thoughtful discussions, reviews of both new releases and classic films, and an exploration of the impact movies have on our lives. This isn’t about revealing the silver linings of "bad" movies but about celebrating the joy and wonder that all films can bring.

FILM DISCUSSION || Horizon: An American Saga Chapter 1
I'm here for I'm Still Here
Fernanda's performance is spectacular
After seeing this movie I regretted wasting four hours of my life. Many of the audience left during the screening. But my biggest gripe is the disservice it did the profession of architecture. Obviously there was not an architect consulted as it implied that buildings are created with a few strokes of a charcoal stick? A building proposed of the scale suggested in the movie would require a team of architects to document it and numerous consultants as well as various authorities and utility suppliers .They would produce a huge number of documents and drawings. As for the model presented it was so crude and lacked context. The ending showed his supposed works at a tribute in Venice. Each example was mediocre in the extreme. Seeing shots of Venice was a welcome relief. The narrative as also trite and pretentious. The most interest was the title graphics which at least seem to have been inspired by the title blocks on architectural drawings.
Why does she *need* to suffer consequences? That feels quite judgemental. Try being married for 19 years as Romi was, watch this again and see how you feel.

Fernanda Torres deserves it ❤
Just came across your channel the other day and have watched several of your videos. I appreciate the thoughtfulness and effort you put into them. Very well done. Subscribed.
You deserve a lot more subs. Feels special being this early on a great channel hehe. Also I loved this movie so much, went out and saw it standard,70mm, and as of yesterday IMAX. Every time it flies by and gets all the same emotions out of me. I am enamored with it. That being said not knowing how I feel about the ending is a thought that haunts me. After multiple viewings the disappointment lessens but the hope and dreams of developing Laszlos story more remain. Conflicted.
Great breakdown!
great discussion :)
Paul Thomas Anderson is the one that doesn’t deserve to be placed next to this film. The Brutalist is everything Anderson wished he could make. Corbet , unlike Anderson is not a poseur.
This movie is just not for you. How can you possibly relate to 50+ woman CEO with repressed sexual desires? 😂
Me: The Bmy thoughts bon... Bruttalist... Wth is this?
One of the best movies of the year
Brutalist architecture is not only ugly, depressing, and low vibe, but many city/state government employee this architecture which speaks volumes. I'll be watching the film of course.....
I just followed you on Letterboxd. You can read my review of the Brutalist there if you follow back (my name there, as here, starts with Lorcan). I saw the film at Venice. There were still responses posted prior to me seeing it, but they were very varied. Seeing it early and writing up my thoughts on it exhaustively within a couple of days was a way to avoid too much self-consciousness about what to think of the film. I would say that Corbet already rehearsed the effect of The Brutalist’s climax followed by epilogue in The Childhood of a Leader. First hearing of that film, I also heard a bit of outrage at Corbet’s gall to be so pretentious specifically with his ending. So I wasn’t throwing up my hands at the end of The Brutalist. I write in my review about the second half of The Brutalist getting messy, but I don’t share the simple ‘first half amazing, second half a real downgrade’ view. Felicity Jones is a great addition to the film. Guy Pearce I think is kind of bad throughout, also therefore affecting the first half a lot. But there’s nothing too surprising in the portrayal of the family’s New York life in the second half, yet for example, there’s a long tracking shot to a “reveal” of Toth at his drawing board as an employee architect; that’s predictable, the overdose etc.: that’s what I mean by messy.
I was a bit disappointed with the film to be honest. But I’m interested more in the photography aspect of films like this rather than the dramatic story. So besides the very good performances by the actors and the fact that stories like this are frequently impossible to fully explore, it left me wanting more from the technical aspect of how the photography/development processes were actually carried out. Plus.. I’m done with WWII films.. there are far too many in my opinion.
Better than any film I have ever made but I agree with you 100% about the ending. I give 1.8 thumbs up and 3 Academy Awards.
Your explanation of the ending is absolutely spot on
That "path" The Brutalist took in the second half is divisive (and I don't mean the epilogue). It may have compromised the movie for many. However, the way it was presented was masterful and made absolute sense in the totality of the story's theme, spirit and intentions. Could that pivotal incident remain unexplored? I would argue yes but it's inclusion proves that Corbet is an uncompromisingly bold, ambitious cinematic visionary. This epic asks tough questions; what it is to be American, a Capitalist, an artist, a man. Today's audience's biggest fear is to be bored. The Brutalist's biggest achievement (despite it's length) is that we remain engaged - even after the last reel.
The movie sounds lame and pointless the characters are a bunch of people of low character that need mental help
Thank you so much for the love and support ❤

It was very sweet

This is not a movie for guys its for women only. That is why you dont understand it. Its not wrapped up in plastic fantastic. Its row its realistic, its ugly and humiliating. Its different. You need to swich to 50 shades of gray and don't comment about things you cant reprehend.
Thank you so much for the love and support ❤

good god, man, this is longwinded and aimless.
Thanks!
Fernanda Torres ❤
It's a Drama that slaps you on your face I think every human being no matter if is immigrant or not can break in tears watching this movie
Great video!!!
You’ve made an incredible assessment of the film. I don’t think there’s a film this year that holds a candle to what Brady and this entire production created. It’s superb
Fernanda Torres is good on her other works that didn't go international. In "I'm Still Here", she's impeccable. And it isn't a loud performance, she delivers without needing to speak much and that's what makes it even more unbelievable.
"I'm Still Here" is about a dictatorial regime that happened in Brazil some decades ago, and stil today so many families dont know what happened to their friends, parent, brothers or sisters. The film talks about that from the perspective of a mother who had her husband kidnapped by the government and left with 5 children to raise. It's a very, very, important movie in a moment when not only Brazil but the US to are flerting with extremists ideals. Also, Fernanda Torres mother, Fernanda Montenegro, was nominated for the same category 25 years ago with "Central Station", but lost to Gwyneth Paltrow (yes, we all remember that year), so it's really incredible seeing her taking home this award not only for her, but for her mother too.
Isso foi no Oscar, no Globo de Ouro ela perdeu pra Cate Blanchett
Speaking of Dickinson's not being dangerous I think Femme had a dangerous character in George McKay (I forget the character's name) and funny thing is Harris plays the same character in the short film version of Femme. I still haven't seen the short film with Harris and want to compare his performance to McKay. Femme had me sweating and slightly h*rny...unlike Babygirl.
really great video, eloquent and thoughtful
It’s definitely a film that I had to sit and process for a while. Once I saw it, I couldn’t stop thinking about it. I haven’t had a feeling for a film like this since Once Upon a Time in… Hollywood. Both movies I didn’t necessarily enjoy the first time I saw it. I gave five stars to both films after I saw them each for a second time. The first time I saw the Brutalist, I liked the first half more. I actually enjoyed the second half of the Brutalist more than the first when I watched it for the second time. I found the second half more eventful, and I was also able to sit and process the hardships in Laszlo’s life during my second watch. Definitely a film that truly shouldn’t even be discussed until you watch it for a second time. I’m not criticizing. This is a great video. Please keep doing the reviews. Much appreciated.
MEN STOP TALKING ABOUT THIS MOVIE CHALLENGE! ITS NOT FOR YOU

Bringing up Demi Moore's age and making a correlation between her age and the reason she won is exactly the point of The Substance . Women face ageism. If the awarding body was made of old members as you claim, they would have voted for the oldest nominees in each category-Guy Pearce, Isabella Rossellini, Tilda Swinton, Hugh Grant and Daniel Craig would have won in their respective categories. Your reason is rather disrespectful and just trying to justify why Madison lost to Moore.
Fernanda is not good in "I'm still here", she is icredible there , just an amazing performance!!
100% agree; I cringed throughout Babygirl. The Piano Teacher is by far the most incredible exploration of sexual repression, BDSM, dysfunctional family dynamics, desire, power and betrayal. It may be too much for those who enjoyed this one....
100% agree with you
Thank you so much for your love and support ❤
What country are you writing from?
This young man ( owner of this channel) did not understand that Romy has not be be punished with what he calls "consequences". And yes she had to face many consequences : she lost her position at her work, the image of perfect wife she had with her husband, and had to show him her private drives and fantasies. She also showed to her children a broken lost and confused mother which is very difficult to a mother , she became vulnerable with his colleague at work who were also a director at the firm, she lost contact with Sam. So this young man seems to think that consequences means to be left by her husband, or lost her job, which shows he is only looking from a patriarchal perspective where women should be punished to looking for pleasure. His Girlfriend should be attentive to those red flags.
so well said. she had a human experience.
I agree . Was so excited to see it and it was great but I wanted more. I thought there would be more sweaty passion . I think Harris is such a rising star, I adore him. Say the first time they had sex - that could've been something but that was kind of skipped over . Loved it though
Thank you so much for your love and support ❤

Who's gonna tell bro his girlfriend thinking this was her favorite movie as a red flag
Wild to me how audiences think that traumatizing a person and giving them trust issues for life is somehow sexy. sexually liberate yourself After you get a fucking divorce

Great review - Movie was disappointing
I think you may be right. Film didn’t quite make it. Actors excellent. Issue of BDSM is a complex one. I have counselled clients who belong to BDSM websites. Fab that these sites exist. I was involved with a guy in this age group for a while. The prejudice I encountered was horrific! Both from women snd men. Men in particular were affronted by it. I look forward to more of this director’s work. Thankyou for your comments.
Thank you so much for your love and support ❤
What country are you writing from?
did u miss the ending scene where her husband got a panic attack? yes there were consequences. the film was realistic because her husband is going to have trust issues even though they stay together. her reputation was also stained because her colleagues knew about the affair and tried to blackmail/humiliate her.
I think he meant consequences like a public scandal or divorce with financial implications, a panic attack is an emotional reaction and can be although doesn't have to be a one time occurrence
I specially liked when Harris Dickinson is ther for Antonio Banderas when he has the panic attack, so sweet...Thing should be like that, empathy
Plus Samuel was sent away and she was to never see him again for sake of company and reputation.
Erotic thriller is such a difficult genre, I think one of the more difficult if you don't want to be flat erotica which actually what this movie seems to be. Not very interesting
Thank you so much for your opinion ❤
