Winter Warmer Gala 2025 - The Battlefield Line
Hello all, We took a trip over to the battlefield line for their Winter Warmer Gala 2025, it was -6 in the car along the way and it felt the same at the railway.
They had everything against them, frozen pipes, frozen water, frozen points.
But they still managed to put on an amazing show.
Saturday 11th & Sunday 12th January 2025

Eyemouth: N gauge: Model Railway This working model depicts the station area as it was in the years after WWII. The project was begun during the lockdown period in March 2020 and took almost a year to complete, each element taking many hours to create, inspiration stemming from an article in Steam Days magazine (Feb. '99). I had read this some years before and had thought that it would make an ...

Littlepoint Wharf: OO gauge: Model Railway A micro-layout of a dockside/wharf area “somewhere in England” in the 1980s. It was built relatively cheaply and quickly as a “fun” shunting layout. Points are hand-operated using under-board rodding. The name comes from a former exhibition micro-layout that Matt’s father, Tim, built around twenty years ago. Hi great video on a very cold day thanks
Hello, Yes very cold day, but still great fun, take care Karl and Debbie
BRRRRR I remember my time on BR working out when it was like this, well done to you both see you around
Thanks Kevin, The Battlefield line did an amazing job give the temperature. Take care Karl and Debbie.
Nice video! I was there yesterday and had a great time.
Thanks Henry, it was fun, just a bit cold :), take care Karl and Debbie
Fantastic footage! Not a line I’ve managed to get to yet but fingers crossed for the future.
Thank you, it's worth seeing. Also we have Great Central Railway not far away, Hope you have been to that one. Take care Karl and Debbie.
@ Hi Karl and Debbie! I haven’t yet but I’m booked to go up there in a week or so for the Winter Gala which I’m really looking forward to 🙂
@@AnthonyFurnivalTrains Great, it's an amazing place, When you see the Friends of GCR stand on the Loughborough platform ask if Karl is around - that will be me :)
An absolute 10 out of 10, most especially for the one & only... fantastic 5 mile-long battlefield line rly - which roams the open leicestershire landscape countryside, between shackerstone & shenton, via market bosworth out there, Also a cracking start to their 2025 season, with their steaming wintry warm-up event. The battlefield line rly, is still on my bucket list.... I myself look forward to travelling out there - from my home county of yorkshire, all the way to that very part of the county of leicestershire, someday, Furthermore, I still believe this heritage railway has potential, on extending as far south as stoke golding (which am sure they hope to do someday), and also potentially as far north as snarestone, from where (according to my own google map research) is where the line meets up with that 'ashby-de-la-zouch' canal - which even flows nearby and all the way to stoke golding too.
Hello William, yes it's an amazing little line, and the volunteers do so well. It was a great start to the year, the Cold and Ice just added more interest to the event. I'm lucky as two loco are appearing next at my Home railway The Great Central Railway Gala at the end of Jan. Looking forward to that one. If you do make it down to Leicestershire pop in on the GCR and also GCRN (Nottingham) if you have the time :) Take care and thanks again, Karl and Debbie.
That looks seriously cold. It's a great video, Karl, and Debbie...cheers James 🙂
Thanks James, yes it was very cold, on and off the trains :) Hope you and Dylan are doing well. Let me know if you are going to visit GCR or GCRN this year - would be nice to see you both in person, take care Karl and Debbie.
@KarlAndDebbieTrains I will do. Our next trip out will be to the Doncaster show next month. We are hoping to get to the Deltic preservation society model railway exhibition and the garden railway exhibition at Barrow Hill Roundhouse. Maybe the Bakewell and the Wirksworth exhibitions and the 009 society exhibition at the Portland College Mansfield. It's just a case of fitting in things in when Dylan isn't busy with things like scouts. Have you seen Dylan's latest 009-LAYOUT update 🙂👍
@DYLINGTONMODELRAILWAY Great sounds like you will be keeping busy :), We also hope to get to the Barrow Hill Roundhouse again this year. Just found Dylans' latest - another great video. Take cake Karl
@KarlAndDebbieTrains Dylan really enjoyed putting that kit together and was so pleased to see it running on his layout. Let me know if you are going to Barrow Hill and we can arrange to meet up with you 🙂👍
Now that's what call a proper frost in mid-winter!
LOL, yes I'm happy we don't get that all the time :), take care - keep warm, Karl and Debbie
Gosh the weather was insanely cold 🥶
yeah, the railway was finding it tricky to keep things moving :), At least we don't get it like that often now days :), take care Karl and Debbie.
Dam, that looks cold there.
Yes, and without working heating on most the trains - you was cold all day, but it was still fun and looked amazing :)
Fantastic, best wishes for 2025.
Hello, Thanks and Happy new year
Nice kit that goods shed
Hello, I do like all the Metcalfe kits, and the goods shed works well, thanks Karl and Debbie.
Happy New Year both. Great update and the storage solutions are a fantastic tip. Thank you for sharing Andy
Happy New Year, Thanks for watching, take care Karl and Debbie
It is great to see you both and the updates from Cattington
Yes, it was great to have Debbie back in the video - Thanks Karl and Debbie
I have two of those, I've never fitted. Not from Bunters Yard though
You should, they do look great, even when not lit-up :)
Great looking layout, the scout camp made me smile. A good layout to start off the new year with Karl and Debbie...Cheers James 😊👍
Thanks James, it was a fun layout, Take care Karl and Debbie
Lovely layout!! Is it well known through attending the major shows, or is it slightly less known but still a great layout?
Hello, yes it's a great layout, I hope to see it again this year :), Take care Karl and Debbie
Very nice. Team Cattington
Thanks, I don't run the castle class much - too noisy!
Nice to see you've discovered some vintage footage of Cattington, Karl...cheers James 🙂👍
Hello James, lol yeah. strangely it's not changed much :), thank you and Happy New Year
@KarlAndDebbieTrains thank you, and happy new year Karl and Debbie 🙂👍
That's a nice-looking O guage layout, Karl...cheers James 🙂👍
Hello James, thank you
O gauge offers greater detail
They do look better than the smaller gauges :)
Great layout 👍🏻
Thank you
Very nice.
It's a nice little layout :)
Hi Karl. That's a great little layout, I did follow its progress as it was being built, but I can't remember the name of who built it. On another note, our festive Christmas video is out... Cheers James 🙂👍
Hello James, small world :), great I'll check out you video next :)
@KarlAndDebbieTrains I hope you enjoy it 😁👍
@properchuffed Hylton likes his distillery
LOL
Hallo. KLASSE Projekt 🛤️🚅🚌🚌🚌🚌🚌👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻........Fim👮🏻🚂🤚🏻
Thank you
That's a nice layout, Karl. Dylan particularly liked it... Cheers James 🙂👍
LOL, good to know, not sure I've any any other 009 layout videos to come, thanks again Karl.
This layout just goes to show what's possible in a small space
Yes, you don't need large layout to enjoy the hobby :)
What a gorgeous layout!! I’d love to have something similar, but could never see to lay the track!!
bless, it is a nice layout, thanks Karl.
Hi Karl & Debbie. Great video as usual. I can't help thinking your intro outro track sounds very Smoke on the warterish. I also finally got round to publishing my first video on RUclips . It is from the Nottingham Model Railway Society's Autumn Show as was not rostered for our Last Hurrah event. I have changed my name on here so it's my channel name and I am Paul if you hadn't already guest. I hope to see you both in the new year.
Hello Paul, thanks - I'm just playing catch up - will watch your videos now :)
That's a nice-looking layout. Great still photos ...cheers James 🙂👍
It looks like it has great play value to it. I think it’s a great little layout.
What a gorgeous layout!!
Mixed traction. Right up my street
Birchwood, I've seen before it's a nice layout
That's a lovely looking N guage layout, with plenty of nice details...cheers James 🙂👍
Hello James, it was very well details for a N Gauge layout :), Take care Karl and Debbie
Loads of detail makes for a better railway
Hello, yes the detail help, but the details is what takes the time :)
N gauge class 50 running round a lovely layout.
Hello Steve, you should get some n Gauge 50s :)
I like those wagons, even if one was a little unruly... Cheers, James and Dylan 🙂👍
1. The loco seems to be very noisy. 2. With the express point in the first scene, one of point's rail aren't connected to the other rail properly.
Hello, thanks - the noise could just be my track - the baseboards amplify the sounds, I've now replaced all that track that was not connected very well, Thanks, Karl and Debbie
Oscarton looks like a most attractive layout.
A nice little layout, the Metcalfe Kit's look well made as well... Cheers James 🙂👍
Hello James, it's amazing what you can do with Metcalfe kits :), take care Karl and Debbie
I would be running some class 50s on that railway
lol, maybe cattington should run some 50s!
Sometimes, I think N gauge would have suited me better
everything looks like n gauge when you in the sky!
Oscarton. I've seen before. it's a nice layout
yeah, part of the soar valley club I think, very nice layout :)
Fantastic video and great update 👍🏻
Hello, Thanks, Take care Karl and Debbie
Hi Karl and Debbie, great update on Cattington. Nice work on the platform, and the tower is great for the price, isn't it. Great update cheers James and Dylan 🙂👍
Hello James and Dylan, Thank you. I just hope it's not going to take me as long to get the next one out :), take care Karl and Debbie.
Nice update Karl. Good to see progress on your own layout. Happy modrlling
Hello Mons, Thanks - it's been a while - but it good to get an update video out. I hope it's not too long until the next one :), take care Karl and Debbie.
Your accurascale class 37 looks great. As it runs on the rails of Cattington. The platform extension will offer an option of adding more people with additional details. Regards Steve
Hello Steve, oh yes I'll need more station scenery! - Thanks Karl.
Previously, I used a pencil along the edge of the Metcalf builds to remove the harshness of the white. Regards Steve
Hi, Pencil would be a bit easy - I'll have to give it a try. Thanks Karl.
Hi. Karl and Debbie. It's great to see Cattington update. There has been some progress made over time.
Hello Mr Drone, Yes we have been able to do a few things, just did get around to the filming part :), thank Karl.
