Mineral Oil USP (United States Pharmacopeia), or pharmaceutical-grade mineral oil, does have a shelf life. When stored properly (in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight), its shelf life is generally considered to be 3 to 5 years. However, this period can vary depending on the oil's purity, packaging, and storage conditions. Signs of Deterioration: Discoloration (darkening or cloudiness) Change in odor Variations in consistency These signs indicate that the mineral oil's shelf life has expired or that it has started to degrade.

I’m a fisherman in a coastal fishing ship near the southern Brazilian coast and do a lot of job in the deck that involves water, fish guts, various kind of fluids leaking from fishing equipment, diesel oil, lubricants, sweat, tears, rain fall, Anyway, many hard blows in day-to-day tasks. Sometimes I even forget that I'm wearing a watch and, worst of all, sometimes it gets so dirty that I can't even see the time. But a quick wash in the debris bucket is enough and there it is ready to show me the time. I've ever had to dive to release stuck nets and I've never had any problems. In other words, I wouldn't exchange my F-91W for anything

Had two f-91ws that I would swim laps in a pool in. They never so much as even leaked. I would dive to the bottom, around 10 feet, and I wouldn’t even get any condensation on the display. Later replaced it with a databank and accidentally went swimming in it. Display fogged up bad but still worked.

i got a casio rangeman seven years ago to wear outdoors year round, but after a few months discovered there was enough water vapour trapped inside the case for it to fog up on the inside in cold weather which drove me crazy. bought some reclaimed fluorinated heat transfer fluid instead of mineral oil, silicone oil, much more expensive fluorinert, or extra virgin olive oil* to fill the case. boom, no more fogging ever. i was worried the hydromod would mess up the pressure and temperature sensors on the rangeman, the reason i got the thing in the first place, but they all functioned perfectly after completion the really great part of a hydromod is that the liquid has an index of refraction much closer to the crystal than air does, so the display became incredibly sharp and clear like it was solid all the way to the watch face. it also increases the viewing angle of the lcd display. the display really pops, in my opinion that and no fogging are the real practical benefits of a hydromod silicone oil is what modders used at first because its what sinn used in their first liquid filled dive watch, the hydro. but sinn found it discoloured their luminous components over time so they switched to fluorinert, which as suggested by the name are inert dielectric fluorine-based oils. silicone oil can also cause problems because it can be absorbed by silicone rubber components like gaskets making them swell and cause leaks or, if they use internal attachment strips made of silicone rubber, even total failure of the watch module. by contrast the fluorine based chemicals are perfectly safe for watch components but as i discovered only after purchasing and using one, super bad for the environment: thanks to their incredible ability to trap atmospheric heat, perfluorinated compounds can be 7000+ times more effective greenhouse gases than carbon dioxide and 250+ times more effective than methane. ive got about 400mL of one in a little bottle in my closet, the smallest amount i could buy since i only needed like a teaspoon worth for my watch, and if the whole thing evaporated that would be equivalent to nearly three metric tonnes of carbon dioxide. not the greatest thing to have around or use. always do your research folks *an oil worker on the watchuseek forums living in spain who first started hydromodding casios on the cheap strapped his olive oil f91w an oil rig going to 984m depth. it was down there for three days and lived! but it did get a big bubble inside the case. he still swore by extra virgin olive oil after others started using fluorinert. inexpensive, doesnt dissolve silicone components, resists oxidation, low acidity, renewable resource, environmentally friendly, smells great and when time comes to replace the battery, 'cleanup is aided by some cheese and crusty bread and a glass of tempranillo.'
