    Do you bake after applying the tape? I tried this today they looked great then baked them and they wrinkled. 😒

      @twofeathersgalleryart 13 дней назад

      Hi Bonnie, It might depend on what clay or tape that you are using. Always good to test bake first. You can apply the tape after baking, however I would test this too, especially if you are not sealing them with anything. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching.

    really pretty. Can I use a small hole cutter through the washi tape before baking?

    • @twofeathersgalleryart
      @twofeathersgalleryart 2 месяца назад

      Hey Nancy, I personally wouldn't try to cut a whole before baking as I feel the clay is too unstable and the tape won't have any secure surface and will most likely sink and move. But test test test to see if you can achieve what you are after on a scrap piece. Perhaps try at least marking the spot with a tiny needle indentation for later? After baking.. I think it depends on the type of whole cutter you are using and I always recommend experimenting on a test piece beforehand. 🙏🙏If its a manual hand drill, whether its baked or not if you are trying to make a hole through the washi tape part, it might distort a little given the nature of the stickiness/tackiness of the tape to move a little on the surface. You could start off with poking a small hole with a needle, so your manual hand drill has an indentation to sit in and is less likely to move around and slip out. I used an electric drill and it worked fine. Another tip would be to start the hole with the tape side facing upwards, which might help keep the integrity of the tape somewhat. When in doubt... Test, test, test... I used a Hope this helps a little!

    Hello! I am new to clay. I loved this video. I basically make figurines for myself to sit on my shelf. I'm not very good at it yet. Would there be an advantage for me to use this clay just starting out over using something like Sculpey? Since I literally just started I only have a few blocks of sculpey samplers.

    • @twofeathersgalleryart
      @twofeathersgalleryart 2 месяца назад

      Hey Tinkey, Sculpey Premo samplers are super cool to start with and get a feel for one of the major players on Polymer Clay brands and it is major for a reason and I recommend it for all beginners along with Cernit. It depends how big your figurines are and a few other things. If they are a larger figurine, for cost effectiveness maybe Coslay sculpt or another clay could work for you, however cost wise depending where you but it, it may end up on par with Sculpey Premo on price. The great thing about the Premo Sculpey samplers is you get a range of colours to mix together and you don't need to worry about painting your finished product. With Cosclay you may want to do a base coat of gesso first before painting with acrylic paint. If you need your figurines to have long thin bits hanging off them or other attachments that could be prone to breakage then cosclay would be good, however generally I don't see too many advantages beyond that, however as I said it depends on exactly the design you are making and what you want to achieve. In the video I am working with the soft formulation of cosclay and perhaps you may like a slightly firmer medium cosclay which might be easier to work with depending on your preference. Cosclay is a very fun clay to work with along with Premo so I don't think you can go wrong either way. Hope this helps! 🤩🤩🤩🤩

    Hi was the premo brittle because I made brooches with Sculpey III and it crumbled like a biscuit when it was baked and cooled. Would Premo be ok for this?

    • @twofeathersgalleryart
      @twofeathersgalleryart 2 месяца назад

      Yes Chris Premo Sculpey would be good compared to Sculpey III, which has a reputation of not being strong and durable. If you make sure that you condition whatever clay you are using well and bake it accurately and even longer up to an hour with Premo it actually gets stronger the longer it bakes. Premo also has a slight flexibility to it, so if you bend it a little it bounces back and not a crumble in sight. If you have pieces baked with sculpey III, you may be able to rescue them by coating them in resin to try and give them more stability - just an idea. Both these types are around the same price point last time I checked, not much difference, so for me makes sense to go with the tried and tested Premo which I recommend to all beginners as it is easy t o work with and so forgiving on many different fronts. Hope😀 this helps!

    Do you have any recommended paint brands for use on cosclay? I currently only have paints that dry in a brittle state, so I want to find a brand that doesn't crack when the clay bends.

    • @twofeathersgalleryart
      @twofeathersgalleryart 3 месяца назад

      I use acrylic paint (water based) on cosclay and it works fine for me as the paint is based on plastic. I would recommend testing out some acrylic paints on scrap pieces first. Acryliuc paints all have slightly different formulations. Also you could try adding different mediums for more flex such as Silicone Caulk maybe "Kwik Seal" for more elasticity. Hope this helps!

    What’s the reason for the gloves?

    • @twofeathersgalleryart
      @twofeathersgalleryart 5 месяцев назад

      I have multiple chronic illnesses including MCS (Multiple Chemical Sensitivities) and also severe MCAS (Mast Cell Activation Syndrome) and Nitrile Gloves are the only gloves safe for Polymer Clay use as they don't absorb Plasticisers. Normal healthy people would not have a problem using the clay in bare hands, however be aware that the pigments especially Cadmiums which are Reds and Yellow mostly, are toxic and can be absorbed through the skin. I would suggest (I am not a medical doctor though so please seek your own advice), that you try to wear gloves when conditioning clay to limit exposure and then when working with the clay to build and shape to take off your gloves if you feel comfortable doing so and don't have any health issues like me. You can also cut off the ends of your gloves fingers and make your own nifty finger gloves that make it easier to work with without having your whole hands in gloves all the time. You'll see a lot of professional polymer clay artist using these as they use clay sooooooo much! and it pays to take that precaution if you are doing a lot of Polymer Clay. Hope that helps!

    How can you use a paintbrush with a tapered handle? Wouldn’t it be weird?

    • @twofeathersgalleryart
      @twofeathersgalleryart 5 месяцев назад

      🙂Thanks so much for the comment. I always recommend looking around the home to repurpose what you have to save money on tools. To answer your question, it depends how much polymer clay you are using and what type of paintbrush you have and what you are trying to achieve. If you have a really small amount of polymer clay you can get away with the roundest part of a paintbrush. and some paintbrushes are very even and round with only a small taper at the end, especially the very long ones. Just experiment with what you have on hand to see if it suits your needs, otherwise you may want to invest in an acrylic roller. Hope this helps! Thanks so much again for your question and contributing to this channel. 🤩🤩🙏🙏🪄🪄

    • @twofeathersgalleryart
      @twofeathersgalleryart 7 месяцев назад

      Good question! I haven't tried it with glitter Washi tape and how superb it would look! I don't see why not if the tape isn't too thick. As I haven't used it personally I am not sure, however will try and get a look at some and get back to you. You can always experiment with some scrap clay and see how you go. A resin finish would help to protect it. 😀

    Thanks so much, I have been a Kato fan forever and just found out the company the makes it plans to discontinue the line. Plus I too suffer shoulder issues and pain in my points. Schedule a MRI to have a look at my rotator cuff and check for a pinched nerve. I was saddened when I learned the plans for Kato and have been looking for a replacement that will have the same end result or even better. I have learned a lot through reading articles, but one never really knows until you play with them. Thanks for saving me time and money ❤

    • @twofeathersgalleryart
      @twofeathersgalleryart 7 месяцев назад

      🤩🤩Hi Erin, Thanks so much for sharing your experience. I personally have found Kato to be extremely hard to condition with my shoulders, hands and wrists, however it has some incredible qualities too especially how tough and durable it is being the most stand out positive. It has more of the plastic in it, rather than the fillers which is why it's so tough. Fimo Professional I would say is maybe the closest to Kato in that it's harder to condition, however a bit tougher than the other clays too (nothing beats Kato for strength though). I think it depends what end result you are after? Hope this helps too. Please stay tuned for the rest of my reviews. I had a Kato review lined up, however not sure if I will publish it now. Please reach out if you have any other questions.

    I do this with my earring hooks all the time. I like to use black earring hooks too but the metal doesn't like being fiddled with and often breaks. My son told me to use a lighter on the spot I want to twist for a couple of seconds and it was an amazing solution. The only part that gets hot is the hole where the jump ring goes. The rest of the ear wire is normal temp so I have never burned myself doing this. 😊❤

You can use your hands and whatever modelling tools you like and all of them can be found on amazon or ebay. Was there something in particular you were having trouble finding? Happy to help. 🥰Hopefully I will have an amazon store on the next 3-6 months, however it might take me a little while as it's a lot of work for me to do and requirements I need to meet as a small content creator with limited resources (I'm still working on it), however I will do the best I can. This is probably a silly question, but do you glue the tape onto the clay? How does it stick on? I bought a whole stack of pretty tapes & it all lifted when I baked it. Not sure what I'm doing wrong 🤔

      Definitely not a silly question Jacqueline. Firstly I would ensure that the clay you're using is well conditioned by performing the crack test. This means that when you fold a sheet of clay in half that it doesn't crack - meaning is well conditioned. If the clay isn't warmed up and the plasticizers are not activated, there could be issues with it gripping onto the Washi tape. Also the thickness of the washi tape could be a factor. The tape that I used was 15 mm thick which has a large surface area than the 5 mm versions of Washi tape that are available which would have a less surface area to stick onto the clay. In the tutorial I have added the tape directly onto the wet clay and then put it straight into the oven. You could definitely try adding a thin layer of clear Bake N' bond, on the underside of the tape and then bake it, and you could also experiment with adding the clear Bake N' bond over the top of the tape and the rest of the earing to get a nice satin glaze, that would incase the tape onto the polymer clay together quite well. However you won't know until you test it. To remedy the earrings with the tape that you've already made, you could also glue the ends or the entire piece of tape down, with some super glue or glue of your choice. I recommend gorilla superglue, as I've heard good things about it, however experimentation is always the better way to go. Please note I don't recommend re-baking the earing after applying any type of foreign glue for health and safety reasons! The other option is you could cover the top of the earring in a clear UV resin or similar (however the tape would need to be firmly stuck down before adding the resin). Another option is you can bake the slabs first, then simply stick the Washi tape on after they are baked. The reason why I suggest this is because perhaps the glue on that particular Washi tape may have dried out in the baking process affecting its stickiness. I had lots of earrings that I kept raw with the tape just stuck on the clay which are still stuck now no problems. Different Washi tapes have different glues and levels of stickiness as well. So it could be that the brand that you are using has a very weak bonding ability for this type of project, and it may not be anything that you are doing wrong, just the fact that the tape has been manufactured differently and is simply not sticky enough. Having said that though I think it would also be worth trying baking your existing tape again in the oven, however checking that you are baking for the absolute minimum time according to the brands baking instructions. Reason why am saying this is because the longer the tape is in the oven, the greater the chance the glue may be drying out and then peeling off your earrings. Hope this helps!

      @@twofeathersgalleryart thank you so much for your very helpful reply 🥰 I really appreciate you taking the time to answer me so thoroughly. I'll definitely try again using your suggestions because the tapes were so pretty & it's a shame not to use them. Much love from Australia 🦘❤️
