Finally got a new camera! Speakers or headphones are advised, though. This is just another practice session but I’d love to play with some other musicians. Please do let me know what you think! All comments are good!

Thank you for watching!! This is a combination of many different ideas. I’m a big fan of the Baker feel! Thank you again for listening!! Try listening on .75 speed if you have the time. Thank you!

Inspiration from Ginger Baker and African drumming/swing concepts. If you want better sound quality, I highly recommend headphones. Thanks for giving me a listen!
Good sounding drum kit! Your drumming style reminds me of Ginger Baker.
@@ivanbajovic3476 Thanks! I appreciate it! Thats a huge compliment.
Grande, Maestro.
Muchas gracias, señor! Thank you for your kind words!
@@ryankaser6726 No hacemos mas que cumplir con nuestro deber. Estamos en gran medida orgullosos de pertenecer a la generacion de estos magicos musicos. Fuerte abrazo.
Ryan, this is phenomenal. I'm an older guy just getting back into drumming, without any real technical know-how, how would you recommend learning the concepts you play here? Any particular exercises or sources to get something I can practice in regard to Ginger's playing?
Greetings, Evan! Very nice to meet you! I have been drumming for my whole life, going all the way back to my toddler years on the pots and pans. Once a musician, always a musician! Unfortunately, I don’t really have any exercises that I use, but I will be releasing a video in the future where I explain the some of the “chops and licks,” as they say. There are stock phrases, and these phrases are used like puzzle pieces to build the solo/song. These could be used as exercises. It is really improvising with all of these ideas that I make up what I’m playing. I have always found interesting, in Ginger’s music, how he managed to breakdown the time and move appropriately between these sub times and feels. All of this without playing stuff that so notey, it goes over the heads of the audience. If you haven’t watched or heard Baby Dodds, his pioneer ragtime feel is where Ginger claimed a lot of influence. Max Roach, Sam Woodyard, Louie Bellson, Gene Krupa, and Zutty Singleton are some of the musicians I would say to check out. Ginger’s drum solo content derives of ideas these drummers have played and some have even explained. Listen to Be Bop! RUclips has a great feature for slowing down the playback speed of a video. I use the crap out of this! It’s makes it much, much easier to hear and see what someone is actually playing if the video is just a touch slower. If you have Amazon, there is an instructional video released by Ginger Baker, called Ginger Baker Master Drum Technique. This video is Ginger and his drums as he explains his drumming in more detail than ever. There are also a selection of exercises in the dvd!
@@ryankaser6726 Thanks so much for taking the time to reply in so much detail! I will start into these resources straight away. A lot of similarities in his influences and those of other drummers like Ian Paice and Bonham, all of whom are heroes of mine. Thanks again!
@@liamshandy Thank you very much for watching and reaching out! I really hope that this helps! Ian Paice is a drummer that has just gotten on my radar only in the last year and he is awesome! I’ve always heard Deep Purple’s music, but only lately started to study his playing! Bonzo has a heavy influence on me! And they were both influenced by Ginger Baker!
Nah
shit dude. i love ginger baker and i feel him in your playing. if u ever wanna work with a guitar player lmk im heavily inspired by this stuff
Thanks you, man! You know it! Where are you located?
I would love to play with other likeminded musicians
@@ryankaser6726 i live in pennsylvania USA. we could work on something together. do u have discord? i could message u mine
@@albertmerlew Yes, I would love to chat about music sometime, and maybe collaborate! I do not have any proper recording equipment, however.
My email is kaserryan@gmail.com
god damn bro. this is really good. you mustve practiced your ass off
Thank you very much! I try to play every day!
@@ryankaser6726 still down to collaborate?
Yeah, what they said below.
Very good. Like ginger perfect time on the hi hat
ur FUCKIN killin it man, love it! From one drummer to another this inspired me so much
Thank so much, man! I appreciate it!
Excellent
Thank you!!
What timing is this in?
It’s all in 4. First, with a triple meter, then eventually to a duple meter. In this case, the hi hats are keeping the downbeat. The feet play one time, while the hands play in another, but they always come back to the hi hats keeping the 4. I appreciate you watching, and I hope this helps.
Keep the spirit of Ginger's playing alive, absolutely brilliant
Thanks as always, man! Good to hear you enjoy my playing!
Ryan, i have a question: Where is your other drum stuff gone? I mean, you had much more of it here on your chanel...
Amazing
Beautiful drumming! May I ask what size and model those hihats are?
thanks!! They are 15 inch hats! Zildjian K Custom light hi hats
I love them! They give big sound, but they’re still very soft, washy feeling hats.
@@ryankaser6726 That's why, I always hear people saying 15" K lights are something else! The sound caught my attention as soon as you started playing the hats. Great playing man!
Good play!
Yessss!!!😍 Pure class
I means so much to have you listening to my music as somebody who’s in the groove and not somebody who’s listening for licks and chops! The swing and train of thought playing is all you need. Creativity and curiosity.
@@ryankaser6726 Yes, i see your passion, it's obvious with every beat.. Ginger's a fascinating drummer...Whatever the haters say, its ridiculous as they are for themselves... Ryan, i've got a question: In the Solo to "Do what you like" Ginger seems to use a concept of switching between 5/4 and 12/8, in life concerts i think, he did it a bit more....Is that correct? What do you think? It sounded, like he did the weirdest things, but they sounded perfectly in time...
@@marceibel1131 yes! Ginger would often shift times. In do what you like, he usually would start playing a lick phrased is three while keeping the previous time, then usually completely pick up the new “three phrase” as the new time signature. Some of these transitions happen at the least expected times, but he always is able to keep pushing forward with intensity. These are moments in his drumming that I continue to be marveled by!
One of the most important aspect of Bakers playing was, that he had spaces in his playing, to let the beats "breathe", to keep them from sounding messy and disorganized.. This thing, my friend, is absolutely nailed by you in this percussive piece of music...Your sense for just playing time's just impeccable.. Brillant👍👍
You are so right! You are absoLUTELY right! Thank you! So many drummers don’t understand. You understand, and for that I thank you!
@@ryankaser6726 Ryan, please, come back, and make new Videos. Miss your drumming
Yeah. Kinda like Mile's Davis' blue notes.
wow dude nice! the transition to the 12/8 was totally seamless.
Thank you dude! I could tell as I was playing, I was just having fun the whole time.
I detected something: This is obviously the same cellar room and drum kit Robert played his solo...You've got identical names and even the same talent..Seriously, what's going on here?🤔 I feel there is a connection to both of you Whatever it is, i love your drumming so much, guys
@@marceibel1131 just a pair of drummer brothers! :)

Yeah, man! I’m definitely down to have a play, together. Love you videos! Do you live in the northeastern Ohio area?
@@ryankaser6726 Yes in fact. You won’t believe it but I have this exact same premier kit.
@@DrumsATon No joke, but first i thought, that you are the same person! Both incredibly talented.. And with the same ability of reaching the sound and spirit of Ginger Baker's playing...
Very close to Ginger himself
I’ve always found his music very relatable. He was a true innovator and a marvelous musician! So, to be compared to him is a tremendous compliment. Thank you for watching!
Brilliant
Thank you so much! I’m just trying to get started into making my own videos. Glad you enjoy!
@@ryankaser6726 Im looking forward to new stuff...Your'e sounding like someone, that obviously has the Baker- Feel.. You've got exellent timing, and you're playing's light and powerful at the same time..Very musical, and not some kind of overpolished sound...
