Finnigans Homestead
Добавлен 11 ноя 2021
We bought this property out in the sticks of east Tennessee in 2020. Taking a tip from Noah, we moved the houseboat we have lived on in Hilton Head Island SC up into the hills and planted it on top of one. The plan is to build a house out of the materials we have on our 42 acres and do it alone and from scratch. I built a saw mill to cut the lumber out of the trees we have here and moving dirt and rocks where the house is going to be. That and all the other things that get in the way and side track a guy, like chickens, dogs cats , geese and a whole lot of other stuff. And sometimes I have to actually work to pay the bills.

Milling poplar 2x8's
Просмотров 234Месяц назад
As I only have a couple of pines on my property, I have to make my dimensional lumber out of other species. Today I am making some 2x8's out of tulip poplar and off camera out of pin oak for a new chicken and goose coop

Just finished the sprucing up of an old M gator I got in a government auction. John Deere made thousands of these for the military in years past and they have been used in places like Bosnia, Iraq and Afghanistan and others. A lot ended up with police departments and rescue services all over the country. That is where I found this one A PD south of Knoxville. These units are powered by a 3 cyli...

Cut up a couple of trees today and hauled them up to the mill and wood splitter. So will be turned into lumber and the rest will be turned into heat. A maple a white oak and a hickory.

Update on the tractor remotes and a downed tree
Which auction site did you get it from? Most of the ones I've seen are in really bad shape. Yours looks great!
I got it from gov deals but it did not look like that when I got it . I had to do a bit of work on it and a few cans of rattle paint
Looks great! Nice job.
@@johnhiggins285 Thank you . if you can get one , do it . Those little Myanmar diesels are worth it alone. Easy on fuel and reliable
I love my geese, they are such characters.
so cute
My best buddies
I have a couple of boxes of brass and can't find anyone to reload for me. Can I still get ammo for my gun?
I can probably help you out on that front
That’s a nice looking poplar and that Stihl sounds good.
It's a 661 i ported and built a " muffler " for. Its my go to saw for the most part with changing bars depending on what I am doing with it
What is your top speed on that things......
close to 20 Mph .... but on the bumpy track I am on with it, thats a little bouncy
Update on that ...... 23 going by GPS on paved road.
hi there i like your sharpner . might not work on my mill / good show , john
Cool!
Always something to do
Ohh it's never boring here on a slow day. After the storms we had here in east Tennessee, it downright busy
Super filmik 👍
I hate it when the primers don't quite come out. I broke my Redding decapping pin Tuesday, doing 5.56. Hate those crimped primer pockets too!😢
brass prep for the 223 is a bit more involved when using range brass , thats for sure
So, how did she shoot?
just around half MOA .
Do you sell those type of bullets???
Vedy cool ❤❤❤❤
Good vid mate, subbed cheers Yogi 🤙✌️🇦🇺
It is an interesting cartridge. You think someone sometime will get tired of fooling around and come out with the 22/ 50 BMG ?
Looks good! Going to miss you on TM, but i do understand. They need to be careful they will end up being like coyotes r us,
I am to old to get told what to do in my time. I did enjoy the 20 some years on there though. In a couple of month no one there will remember that I was ever there lol
I sure wish you lived next door to me so I could borrow your tools occasionally. 😊
Nice❤
i got like 5 of these and one is nesting
Beautiful
good job nice looking lumber!
Love the truck badge (fjb)
Yes that 3D printer has a mind of its own 🤭
Nice job on the sawmill, saw your comment on sawing with sandy and thought i would take a look.
Thats you for the kind words
My condolences to you over the death of your pet cat.
Thank you Andrew
Well done. Do you use a backhoe with that tractor?
Sorry I just stumbled over your comment . No I do not have a backhoe for this tractor.
Bravo 🎉
I've wanted a wood mizer for quite a while. This is excellent ideas and motivation to not wait for those $$$ to be saved.
My grandfather once told me,that there is no such thing as scrap. It’s just a lack of imagination
Normally they are finished faced while installed on the shaft itself . That way there is no runout.
In an ideal world that would be true. The shaft is round stock with no machining done to it other than the key slot cut ... so this is good enough after measuring the prop shaft with a micrometer and checking for runout with a DTI , I took the easy way out without hauling the boat out and dropping the rudder etc.
Oh Mike & Linda they are awesome! What’s the names and I have egg crates plus your palm thing remember but we never see you.😢
The one that looks like a miniature St Bernard is Cowboy and the other is called Norman
I need to add a second rear spool valve….can a t be used to split two open center spools?…..I’d rather not go all the way back to the pump….
Yes you can install as many open center spools vales in series as you want
How can you spot the power beyond port ? Maybe it’s cheaper just to buy a 4 spool block vs adding another spool valve…?@@finniganshomestead2956

Super Cute 🥰🐾🐾
Congratulations Elle!! 🎉😊
I was using W296 in carbine. For some reason with manual recommended 14 H110 the cases looked really blown out and expanded more than with the Win powder or factory loads. Headspace and barrel is not and issue in this case. Did not cause any problems, it just looked hot on the fired cases. I got 2400 but have not used that in carbine. Loads were with either 110 RN or SP.
You’re a great fabricator. Good job!
Thank you for the kind words, but this is easy enough for anyone to do with a little patience and that super power called common sense
Yanmar all day.👍👍🤌
Wish someone come up out of tradition and produce wildcats or non traditional loads like this and come up with pistols or revolvers for these loads like fk did
.
I use for my 1943 M1 Carbine 13.5 grain H110 , bullet PPU 110 grain FMJ .Have shot several thousand and no malfunctions.Ramshot Enforcer is also very good
I tried a few powders but keep coming back to H110 for the 3 carbine. It just plain works and i am done sperimentin with it.
What is down the hill trail?
That leads down to the spring and the place of the last video
I am not fortunate.
This is cool
I want that job!
No you don't.... there is nothing like a brush hog mower to wake up every bug in a square mile and wanting to have a go at the guy driving it.
Dog proof traps work great. Saves time too.
Thank you for posting this! It's exactly what I've been looking for.
I use Redding sizing wax all cases . And trim all to 1.280 . A slight flare to the mouth and a slight taper crimp 14.5 gr of H 110 works Great 👍
That thing is really poor quality! 2 years it’ll be solid rust! I feel for ya! But you did buy it!
It will take me a couple of days work to turn it into a decent trailer that will hold up to what I use it for. The trick is that ya don't have to live with what you get. You can change and improve things as and when needed and still end up with a good trailer at a decent price. I have invested 1 gallon of black farm paint, 6 tubes of PU based sealant a solar panel with charger, a wireless remote for the pump a hand full of welding electrodes and a few extra grease nipples. I'll probably change the hitch to a pintle style soon as well. Not including the hitch I am under 100 bucks into improvements and 12 hours of my time.
what would be a good starting load for w680 and 130gr cast
I would stay away from cast bullets as they gum up the gas system and that ta keys some time to put right again and 130 is a tad heavy for it as well unless you are not using an M1 carbine
@@finniganshomestead2956 I put hundreds of rounds of cast bullets through my m1 carbine never had a problem I just lost my reloading notes in a house fire
@@finniganshomestead2956 ive shot hundreds of rounds through my carbine with 130 gr cast and ball 680 with absolutely no issues, ihave 2 lbs of 680 and there is nothing else suitable around,my reloading notes were lost long ago,i realy dont want to guess
@@charlieburnup2521 I use the 110 grain copper plated Berries bullets and H110
