I felt all of them, each giving a distinct amount of hope that the next one would be it, that I'd get there. Then it struck the last hand, and hope fades, and you lose 2 of the best jokers. Pain.

skill issue: should not have gone to ashpit
curse room pool is only decremented by 0.5 on sight. so curse of the tower was 1 weight, then 0.5 weight when you walked in. rerolling and seeing it again brought it down to 0. has about a 1/60 chance of happening.
most item pools are fully decremented on sight, except for chests, beggars, curse room, and library. touching an item removes it from all pools (unless you roll your build).
What're the odds on top of eternal d6 succeeding?
very low odds. the item doesnt actually get removed from the pool when you reroll it. very very unfortunate. edit: to clarify. this only happens in rooms where the chance to reroll into the same item isnt decreased by 100%. such as the curse room you entered.
