good stuff
Allan ready .....for ANYTHING!
Is he the Composer of 'Smoke on the Water'???
Ha!
thx
Who are those guys? Never heard of that band.
good joke
Rest in peace, Allan. The world misses you more than you know.
Allan Holdsworth was the best guitar player on the planet .. i didn't understand this b ass going through all the time
oh wow! do you have more of this show? i've been kicking myself for years that i didn't record either night of this :-O
This drummer Ron Brunner Jr. is really incredible and totally is unbelievable! I was the man who helped Allan get signed to Enigma Records back in 1982 when he had a female-manager and was playing at all 3 Keystone's back then...I put his then manager in touch with people whom I knew at Greenworld Distribution whom in turn sent her directly to Enigma..I was at all 3 Keystone gigs and they were all great...Berkeley,S.F. at the Stone and Palo Alto..I took some drum-lessons from the late-great-brilliant drum-prodigy and drum-genius: Tony Williams and also helped to hook-up Allan with Tony once again in '85 which led to Tony playing again with Allan on the "Atavatron" LP on Enigma in 1986...Anyone out there who is an Allan fan or for this matter an Ollie Halsall fan can email me anytime...Michael at BlackDiamondMike at AOL...I would LOVE to eventually know what Ron Brunner Jr. is up to and who that he is currently playing with....as he smokes..I started playing drums in 1967 and was good..yet nowhere near this capacity...he's actually as good if not better than Cobham or Alphonse...the kings...
He definitely has features of Tony Williams and Billy Cobham. He is also one of the pioneers of drum shedding and gospel chops where drummers play fast notes around the kit! Thank you for your valuable insight! I'm a drummer and I am dumbfounded when I hear these spectacular musicians.
Ronald Bruner's brother is of course Thundercat (Stephen Bruner)!
I was at this gig🙂
i was at the second show that night, friggin amazing
Damn! The rhythm section was pushing Allan to his limits! He surely loved the inspiration. This was THE lineup.
man, i felt the same thing!!! :)
Allan ready .....for ANYTHING!
Boss level stuff! Cheers for the upload
Dude you have sloppy ears. You literally have no clue if you say Ron's playing is sloppy in this vid.
Listen to Ron with Stanley Clarke live, and you will know, he's the most aggressive and powerful drummer I've ever heard. Blew me away and then some.
LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL Tell that to Stanley Clarke,Marvin Smitty Smith,Kenny Garett,Hiromi Uehara,Chaka Khan, and the other acts he toured with....
He's not sloppy at all...why would you judge youtube clips where most of the time youtube clips are "showcasing" a drummers ability to solo? Why don't you check out his work with Stanley Clarke,Chaka Khan,Kenny Garrett and other acts he has toured and recorded with.
Ron is one of the cleanest drummers I have ever seen. Hard to tell on a video like this.
bro, why you being such a freakin jamoke?? you're seriously hating on bruner. maybe he's not your cup of tea, but to say he's a BAD DRUMMER?? goin a little far my man. is he losing the beat in any of this? can you or anyone you personally know play this well?
@markalpa Thanks! I play midi controllers through a Muse Research Receptor running Scarbee Rhodes samples through Native Instruments Kontakt. There's the long answer on the absolutely accurate Rhodes sounds :)
At chroma, lol! Is that the best you can do? He has burned the bridge with Allan, what a shame, but someday he will realize, I hope.
@warbirdfotos Being Late in Los Angeles...I hear traffic there is pretty scary...who wants to leave 3 hours before the gig?
Guys, sorry again. You know that video making the rounds "This drummer is at the wrong gig?" Well, 'nuff said.
Church Drummers are annoying.
To me this sounds like Allan's band (Chad + Jimmy) was lost at sea and he had to find a way to keep his commitment to the gig. This base is not playing the spirit of Allan's music. Sorry.
Thank you very much!! I love this Allan band..great!
Bruner was late both nights, very unprofessional, I think Allans quote was more than just jest at the time. Burners got skills, no doubt, but he has some growing up to do. Looking forward to tonite at the spud, Allan will be playing his stuff, with Bruner again, hope he shows a little more respect to his mates! Can't wait to hear AL's new release with Virgil! See you at the Spud! Cherrs
Proto cosmos!!!
great stuff! thanks for posting!
Grande! man.
Tempermental! So glad You posted this! Thanks a million Bro!
The man is an island unto himself. There is no one like Allan. I hope history bears this out, because the guy is the TRUTH.
@jamesedwardtheobald Interesting observation. I was at 7 of the 8 Yoshi's shows and had lunch with Allan during that period. He was certainly excited to be playing at Yoshi's but I feel like he really enjoyed the music and musicians at the BP the other night. I have seen him and chatted with him several times in between and just hadn't seen him as happy as Friday in quite a while. The "drummer" quote is just Allan's sense of humor. As far as his equipment- he's never happy. Cheers! :)
Great band - hope to hear more in the future!
Nice keyboard solo! Anybody who was there catch what keyboard he played? Sounded like a real Rhodes. A Nord maybe?
The end was a mess but it was nice to see the high energy and good spirits
I was at this show. Phenomenal. Also very glad to see Allan having FUN! He hasn't done that in years. I hope they do more gigs with this group. And BRUNER IS A MONSTER!!!! Really added a ton of energy!
Allan's approach, sound, technique are not comparable to anyone. All they can do is chase and clones don't count!
As ever, insane playing from Holdsworth. Anybody know the date of gig? Lady GaGa is genius apparantely!!
Allan's solo here was so amazing!
Thanks for posting man! An amazing show!
