I was and still am a stepfather, and have to say after 52 years, we are going strong but still have the same issues that "regular families" have. I met the father, and he had no real interest in fathering until later after he started another family but still struggled at parenting. He was a very nice person but never worked hard enough to make it work. There are no guarantees in any relationship and if your priority is money rather than a healthy growth of everyone concerned, than maybe you are not the person for the job. It will work if you know what to do and learn what you don't know. Without any step-parenting at all, we are looking at the continual growth of all the statistics we are dealing with. No guarantees, learn what to do and do your best. I love my family.

What about foster kids, what about orphans? How about the kids that were abandoned at hospitals or left outside of fire stations? I raised him from the age of 3, and I raised him to be a man that will take care of his family and i'm far from weak. As a matter of fact because I raised him his loyalty to me his pops, is unquestionably, he's an aviation mechanic, he's never disrespected me about his sperm donor and is one of the strongest young man I know. Every situation doesn't end bad. To this day there is nothing my so called step son wouldn't do for me. He's never been arrested or in any trouble because of the environment we provided for him,

It take's a village to raise a child. A child without proper male mentorship or father figure growing up has a higher likely hood of becoming a bigger problem to all of society as an adult. So if you don't become a step-father then become a mentor to these young boys/men that are in desperate need of wisdom and guidance. However, it is the responsibility of the child's mother to create a situation that will allow step-father to be a true father figure and head of household. The role of the biological father is also critical to making it work. With that being said, It will only work with mature rational adults that understand and play their roles. Without those things it's a NO GO. Most don't have the patience or tolerance for the risks involved in going that route so I understand why many men would say no to single mothers. Or become a mentor.
