This game might exemplify my frustrations with what they're doing to the franchise since the movies came out. On one hand, finally other characters get recognition and gameplay moveset that sets them apart enough from Sonic, there are open, large stages with multiple paths, emphasis on cinematic scenes, and taking themselves seriously. On the other hand, it's another nostalgia rehash with Boost to win. I hate baseline Generations, never enjoyed, never caught the hype for a glorified Unleashed rehash with old repackaged stages, and I don't want it. As much as they try to portray the story as serious, it looks like another load of nothing like Frontiers. There are still 2D sections. And I'll never be able to listen to the Studiopolis voice actors without cringing. Kirk Thornton is at least using the Saix voice for Shadow, but it's still lacking. That said, if the original overrated piece of trash gets delisted, I'm a happy camper.

See, the original Sonic/Tails act 1 of Mirage Saloon, their plane was down because of CrowdStrike, so they had to go the slow way, which took up an entire act for budgeting's sake. Great video dude 😊

I'm not hyped for this cause it's way too similar to Sonic Frontiers. Levels look square straight and basic. No momentum on the rails. I was hoping for something more original, but like you said, they couldn't come up with anything to make it a standalone game, even if it's the year of shadow. I think that's false advertising tbh.

Shadow the hedgehog is not a "sonic game" it's a shadow game. And it was concepted as a spin-off for a reason, comparing it to the mainline series feels illogical since it's not trying to be that for the most part. Similar ideas but used in a different way. Just watch @Hard_Pretzel video on it since he ACTUALLY PLAYED the game and took the time to UNDERSTAND IT. And most of the negative reviews came from people that were expecting it to play like a sonic game and did not try to play it as its own thing. For instance, the homing attack can't be spammed since the game wants you to use your gun which not only attacks faster than the homing attack but can be use while moving at high speeds so that cancels out some of that stop and go action that most other mainline games have. And using chaos control in areas where there are pits can let you use it longer than it's intended limit allowing for big level skips. And most of those reviews are from when the game first came out and more than likely don't reflect the way most people feel about it now, or at least the people that actually played it how it was intended.

The delisting of the PC Port of Gens is actually REALLY BAD when you think about it, particularly when it comes to the massive and popular modding scene for that game that's STILL kicking to this day. All that history's gonna be completely shut off from anyone who didn't buy it before the delisting (and if they end up botching the Gens port in this game then it's even worse not just for mods, though so far the port looks basically perfect other than slightly miscolored grass that you can't even notice normally [literally who cares?] and them removing lives for those who actually like lives, and that's about it so that aspect's looking good so far).

I kind of understand what you are saying but I think you are overthinking it. They're attaching the Shadow DLC on not because they think it won't sell well, but because of the new Sonic Movie. They also didn't have enough downtime after Frontiers to make a full fledged game so they probably decided to make it DLC. If this sells well and the Shadow Portion is received super well, which from the looks of it; it will. We will likely see more character spinoff games.

MY THOUGHTS EXACTLY! They should have just remade Shadow The Hedgehog! IT WOULD SELL! You can tell Sega wants to remake Shadow's game. But it looks like they were too afraid to see if Shadow's name would be enough. Everyone is more excited about Shadow's segments! I think that speaks volume that the fanbase would buy it. I'm assuming depending on the reactions of Sonic X Shadow Generations, Sega might actually remake Shadow's game. Here's hoping.

This game is a good sign cuz it has good and long first level design (and its only act one) good physics according to playtesters,good movement and Iizula said they might remaster sonic unleashed , and unleashed and gens veterans are making shad gens, the future of sonic is bright

They could had updated the old game fixed all the bugs and added shadow as an dlc.. on the more modern devices

This updated-rerelease is definitely a step in the right direction for Sonic Team-- especially while they're still figuring out how best to carry the franchise forward following the success of "Sonic Frontiers", and it's final update. And it's reassuring to know that the Blue Blur is steadily picking-up momentum again after a decade of copy & paste standalone entries that did nothing to drive the narrative forward beyond the scope of each individual title. We need more stories with overarching narratives that take themselves just seriously enough to set the stakes again. And I'm happy to know that Sonic Team is already somewhat revisiting this idea by diving back into Shadow's origins with this next installment, and further expanding upon it after all of this time. If this title does as well as it SHOULD, it will absolutely determine Shadow's role [if any] in the next mainline installment of the series. The success of "Sonic Frontiers 2" will also determine which games to remaster next. If all goes well, we could see dual-remaster's of "Sonic Adventure 1/ 2". And if THEY do well, we could see a toss-up between "Sonic Frontiers 3", and the long-awaited "Sonic Adventure 3" right after. The ball's back in the fan's court now, it's up to US not to screw this up just as much as it is up to Sonic Team to actually deliver. Let's leave Sonic Team in the kitchen to do their thing, and see this title for the "W" that it is.

That's why at the beginning I thought that all that year of Shadow was just an afterfought but when I saw the trailer and the gameplay for SxSG I was amazed. Yeah a Shadow 05 remake sounds like the proper thing to do and honnestly a remake with this quality hell yeah, I love this game, it's a big mess but I love it, unfortunatly 05 has more problem than just the gameplay which is why Shadow 05 was so poorly received like you said. I'm still optimistic about new "year of x character" they will maybe do more than just a remaster with new content

I agree with what you're saying and when I say this just know that I don't even own a computer and that is I don't like the idea of the listing new version of games off of other platforms like Steam ages is not feel right to me especially when you consider the decade long history of mods let alone how long it's going to take to get to this point again no I do understand if you're coming from

I can agree with the concerns. But I think that this is a problem on the SEGA end of this stuff. Cause, lately its seems like Sonic Team, and Izuka in particular, are REALLY excited about their projects and are overall happy with the quality of them. So, I wouldn't even be surprised if this was SEGA still being super fearful of criticism because of lackluster stuff.

The gameplay is still pretty decent , like the reminder that half of the mobile games are: connect 3 ... Connect fk 3 And You can still pull decent combos in this version of the game they aren't as smooth due to having tho switch characters instead of just weapons and if you trigger a QTE the swap cooldown is longer but they are possible to pull off Now about the monetary thing at the end of the day half of the games need ways to squeeze money, shocker , what do you think battle passes were designed for to have a deal that forces player retention and also gets money for the developers Now the game is p2w like every other f2p game that doesn't mean you have to fk pay the only thing that you miss out on is on PvE leaderboards and they give you slightly better progression rewards that you don't care about unless you are actually playing like long term , I played for a couple of weeks got : a limited hunter , 2 standard s hunters and all of the normal A and B hunters upgraded to S , the game is not hard nor that bad; hell the coop weekly shit is pretty fun to run and I wish I could do something like that on DMC 5 just run coop with randoms and kill strong ass bosses or enemy's together, like just play the fk game for free enjoy what you can from it
