Gunnerside Gill, Yorkshire Dales, a perfect walk
Просмотров 292Год назад
@mapskillsmoorsanddales A circular walk, up Gunnerside Gill, from Gunnerside Village, North Yorkshire, past old lead workings, a perfect walk of streams and moorland. About 4 hours. A little muddy in the middle, easily avoided if you keep to the public footpath, up the valley, slightly away from the Gill.

@mapskillsmoorsanddales A walk from Sedbergh, Cumbria via the Dales High way and Settlebeck Gill, to the top of 'Calders', great views over to The Calf (I'm leaving that for a winter backpack from the opposite direction). Return via Arant Haw, with great views towards the Irish Sea and the Lake District Visit www.oldplodder.co.uk For guided walks and navigation courses.

Bluetooth Backpacking Thermometer

A great lightweight Bluetooth thermometer for measuring the temperature inside your tent. Perfect for seeing how cold it gets over night inside your tent, whilst you are hopefully asleep and warm inside your sleeping bag. @mapskillsmoorsanddales #backpacking #winter #campinglife #camping #backpackingadventures #backpackinggear #thermometers #thermometerdigital

Keswick to Walla Crag Circular Walk - September 2023. The last of the summer, a heat wave. Too hot!!
Просмотров 511Год назад
@oldplodder. A walk down by Derwent Water from Keswick, with a view across to Cat Bells. Then keeping to the West bank a hot stroll up onto Falcon Crag, then over to Walla Crag. A walk back into Keswick. A super hot day 30 plus. So lucky. The 'Elderly Couple' I hope they don't mind me calling that 79 & 76 years old, a total inspiration - "Don't let the old man in". They had last done this parti...

Carlton Bank, North York Moors, a 7 mile circular walk, including parts of the Cleveland Way
We’ll might just buy one👍
Nice comparison in size. Thank you.
Hi Nicholas As the track going east towards Whitby is now part of the Cleveland Way and Coast to Coast long distance footpaths. They have been improved to prevent erosion, so a lot of the paths have stone, often it appears from Old Warehouses / Mills floors. On the high moors it is often just the local bed rock - sandstone or limestone. I was up on Urra last week, there is still so much evidence of the iron ore extraction. I didn't know about the Alum extraction around Carlton Bank. There are definite signs of industrial extraction. I thought it was either iron ore or Jet. Where do you live now? I would gladly make another video if you want to know how another location looks now. Jim
Thank you so much for making this video & posting it. I have family connections with Carlton and Faceby dating back to the 18th century, when the Prissick family owned & operated the alum mines at Carlton Bank. Carlton is sadly a long way for me, which only allows me infrequent & brief visits, but I was lucky enough to be able to visit the alum mines on Carlton bank. I was unaware of the existence of the paved track or packhorse route, until I found it on my way from Lord Stones. I am intrigued by the pack horse route from Lord Stones & wondered how far it ran along the ridge line. Your film tells me that it extends a considerable distance west of Carlton Bank. Do you know if this paved route extends west of Lord Stones? Have you filmed that route towards Whitby?
It looks like a nice walk and little doggy seemed to have enjoyed it lol
Why was the letter I not included?
In case it caused confusion with the 'number' 1
@@mapskillsmoorsanddales makes sense, thank you
Ive been looking at this tent as I have the trisar 2 and the voyager 2 which are both pitch inner first but otherwise solid tents. Hows the condensation?
There are a number of vents to allow air flow,, I've not had a problem with condensation on the inner tent. Condensation forms on the inside of the outer tent (simple physics dictates that) but there is sufficient gap between the inner & outer to stop them touching. I would recommend the footprint, as it is a climbing out or in on your knees. Stops dirt transfer
Nice video James, great adventure for you and your little Pal! Looking forward to seeing more! Liked and Subscribed
Nothing recently as wife bought me laminate for Christmas , then she gave me a chest infection as an extra. Only now feeling well enough to start going out again, the chest infection played hell with my asthma!!! I'm hoping to get out this weekend
A copy of the Vango Hellvellyn and Hydra...LOL😉
I had been looking at the Vango Mirage Pro 200. Then I saw that Terra Nova had produced the Trident 2. Very similar design, slightly lighter & with 8.6mm poles. I didn't want a single hoop tent as I don't like the tent roof right over my face when sleeping. A similar design, yes. That makes me happy.
The very reason I purchased one. Years ago (as in 20 plus) had a Quasar great tent but too heavy, this one is lighter and great value too.
Woo, Qusar is a perfect tent. And could you tell me if Trident has the inner sag problem? Because I heard Helm has this issue.
@oocean8902 I can't say I have noticed it. There are pull straps on the bathtub floor, that tighten the floor. This gives the inside a better shape.
@@mapskillsmoorsanddales Thank you very much!😁
Thanks for your review! I just bought this tent. I believe it can withstand bad British weather.😄
How much burn time do you get out of one gas canister if it is on high?
I only use the Brukit for boiling water for coffee & rehydrate meals when I am boiling about 400 to 500 ml of water each time. That takes about 3 minutes 30 seconds on high . I have used it about 11 tines and still gas in the small gas cannister. This has been during the summer months. More gas would be used during the winter.
One walk I’d like to do 👍 glad it made you happy 😊
❤😊
Very nice video, James. Lola looked like she was enjoying it too. I've not been up there in close to 30 years. Looks the same which is good.
Cheers for the message. I really enjoy being up there. Every day, let alone season can be different. July & August the purple heather will be out, transforming how the Moor looks.
