As a patient, in 1990 I underwent surgery to remove my diseased gallbladder. I was 30 years old. Unfortunately, my brain was changed that day. It took me 18 years to finally self-diagnose, after reading about POCD. I am still struggling with my damaged brain. I saw many doctors and asked about my brain issues following the surgery and sadly, none even suggested POCD. They all implied that I was crazy. "it must be depression." or "it must be stress." It was very clear to me that something was wrong because I was a computer department manager in a hospital pharmacy. I realize that most people are afflicted temporarily, but some are permanent. I am getting ready to try red light therapy to try to get improvement. I have read that in other countries, some patients are treated with Hyberbaric oxygen before and after anesthesia, in order to avoid POCD.

I am always on the lookout for treatments or options to mitigate the effect on my brain.

I didn't realize I had brain changes until I got back to work, in two weeks. At home it wasn't obvious, but once I was back to trying to work, it became extremely obvious. Everyone noticed. My memory, both short term and long term, were shot, and I couldn't think of words, and I kept saying wrong words.

I am a 63 year old woman in the USA. At 30 years old, in 1990, I had gallbladder surgery. I experienced what I consider profound brain injury. Over the last decades I have improved a bit, but am still impaired. It was a devestating life altering situation and still is. Memory, cognition, saying wrong words, can't think of words. I was the computer manager in a hospital pharmacy when it happened. I could clearly see a difference in how my brain worked. Day before surgery I was fairly smart. Within two weeks of surgery I was in a fog. The fog didn't get any better until 1996, when I learned of DHEA. That helped a lot to help clear the fog. In the years since I have taken various supplements which help, and have changed my diet, which also helped. The saddest part of this is that I asked every physician I saw what may have happened during the surgery to cause the brain problem and all had no idea. It took me 18 years to learn about POCD. In this day when I've needed surgery, I request regional numbing with no twilight sleep or any amnesiac. I stay fully awake during the procedure. My experience has been excellent with this approach.

I came to learn about remimazolam but I stayed because of all the snarky comments by Dr. Sneyd. Love it! Thanks for a good presentation. Can't wait to try this drug. Im shocked that only 11% of the 1.5 to 2.5 mg/kg propofol group in the Chinese endoscopy study had respiratory depression. I would've expected closer to >70%

TLDR: This study shows promising results for nitrous oxide in the treatment of depression. Small sample size, but every data point counts. This is NOT a placebo.

This was very informative. Thank you. I see you used a 1 hr long administration of nitrous oxide. Here is my question.. What could be the effects of inhaling a single canister of nitrous say once a week vs. The longer administration? Also, what is the difference in the amount of nitrous in a single cartridge/canister vs. The hour long session? This may not be ideal, but I'm sure it is something that many will try given the admitted antidepressant effect of nitrous oxide backed by the scientific community. Thank you for your video!

I would also like to know the difference between the two. Many people binge on nitrous once every couple of weekends (for several hours). I would love to know their experiences in terms of depressive symptoms.

Check Amazon. I just googled and it looks like it isn't banned in Australia. I am a TBI survivor with a history of refractory depression, which was made worse by my brain injury and even worse by long COVID from the delta strain. I found success with ketamine but cannot afford the treatment any longer and cannot find illicit ketamine, although I would if I could. It works. I bought some nitrous yesterday, in desperation. I bought the "whip it" style cartridges. After three balloons, laying in bed yesterday, my depression symptoms have decreased by what feels like approximately 99%. It's been less than 24 hours, but this is stunning. Just as good as ketamine or better. Time will tell. It can be abused, so that's a consideration, especially since long term excessive abuse can lead to serious health issues. Luckily for me, I'm poor and couldn't abuse it if I wanted to :) Good luck. If you decide to try to self medicate, please read as much as possible about harm reduction and nitrous. IT can have serious downsides if not treated with respect and taken seriously.@@Fomites

Even in the US they prescribe oxycodone for things like backache... I thought a strong opioid like that was reserved for cancer pain or equivalent. I see they also give hydrocodone for toothache... here in the UK the most they prescribe for severe pain that's not cancer is tramadol or codeine... you'd never see someone getting a prescription for oxycodone for chronic back pain. I got the impression that narcotics are prescribed like candies in some countries whilst people have to be practically dying of cancer here to get something decent for pain instead. How is that fair?
