Dan Cabela
Добавлен 5 июл 2023
The conservation of our natural ecosystems has never been more crucial, with almost 8 billion people on the planet. But what does “Conservation” in the modern world require?
Dan Cabela sets out on a journey across the globe to explore the “Hard Truths Of Conservation” with a host of experts in vastly different contexts. The idea that Sustainable Use can play a vital role in preserving habitat for wildlife and sustaining communities alike is an impossible statement to many people. The benefits of treating wildlife resources as renewable and valuable are concepts that seem complex and yet, when unpacked in a highly entertaining format, become difficult to argue.
From how the practice manages healthy wildlife populations, provides employment and prevents illegal poaching to the role wildlife has played in our diet. Dan participates in hands-on conservation initiatives funded by sportsmen and shares the reality of areas supported by sustainable use on the ground.

Bornean Pygmy Elephant
The Bornean elephant is classified as endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature. Conflicts here between humans and elephants often occur because its habitat is surrounded by palm oil plantations. Because of this, they are often in close proximity with farmers and communities, sometimes causing fatalities for both sides.
Deforestation is the main cause of this conflict. The human population has been expanding over the years and the natural habitat for the elephants has been, reduced causing more human-elephant encounters.
Wildlife and palm oil plantation conflicts are inevitable at this point and several elephants have died in recent years on or near palm oil plantat...

For thousands of years, the people of Nunavut in northern Canada have subsisted off the land and sea. Their ways have been passed down from generation to generation, and even though some technological advancements have been made, they still practice many of the traditional ways of their ancestors. In this episode, Dan Cabela heads into the icy-cold north to immerse himself and learn from one of...

Black bears are the most widely distributed large carnivores in North America. From coast to coast, and as far south as Florida to as far north as Alaska, black bears are a common part of the natural cycle. While states carefully manage populations through hunting, there’s still cultures across North America who have a much deeper connection to these bears. In this episode, Dan Cabela travels t...

No matter how far back you look in history, the consumption of wild game is well documented. From neanderthals to Native Americans, being able to provide wild protein could’ve often meant the difference in survival. Today, harvesting wild game to eat is no longer a fixture for many, but for those who still try to source their own, it does come with its fair share of controversy. Dan Cabela is o...

Argentina has long been a bucket-list destination for hunters, anglers, and hiking enthusiasts alike. With breath-taking vistas and areas which are teeming with wildlife, it’s no wonder why Argentina is such a draw. However, with population growth and pressure on land development/natural resources, what does all that mean for wildlife and the places it calls home? Especially with the non-native...

Wild sheep are one of, if not the most-iconic species of big game in North America. Their resilience to survive in some of the most rugged, yet picturesque, places has drawn hunters from around the world. However, like many conservation issues today, wild sheep are not immune to trouble in the areas they call home. In this episode, Dan Cabela travels to the northern wilderness of British Columb...

The second half of this season of Hard Truths of Conservation is picking up with a topic that’s circulating throughout Europe and the United Kingdom presently. The long-standing tradition of hunting has a rich history in both countries, but does it have a place in present-day conservation? It’s a question that must be asked, as the hunting and outdoor landscape changes with societal norms. In t...
