I've watched just about everything the TPB created since the beginning, including Cart Boy. This is honestly the worst and lowest I have seen in TPB. Having Bubbles the central focus with Ricky and Julian in the background is NOT TPB. Sorry, but TPB is unfunny when Bubbles hogs all the spotlight.

For those who don't know, Fernanda Torres already won the Palme d'Or for Best Actress at the Cannes Film Festival in 1986, for her performance in the film Eu Sei Que Vou Te Amar. She was 20 -- She also worked with Anthony Hopkins on One Man's War 1991.

"I'm Still Here" and Fernanda Torres deserve Oscars! With the alarming rise of authoritarianism globally, this film's powerful story of resistance against dictatorship is more critically relevant than ever. It serves as a vital reminder of democracy's fragility and the urgent need to defend human rights and justice. The film boasts an exceptional script, crafting a compelling narrative that resonates deeply. The masterful direction brings this story to life with impactful visuals and a palpable emotional core. Fernanda Torres delivers a nuanced and truly masterful performance, embodying the strength, vulnerability, and unwavering resolve of a woman confronting unimaginable adversity. Her portrayal is both captivating and deeply moving, connecting with audiences on a profound level. "I'm Still Here" transcends mere entertainment; it's a powerful testament to the resilience of the human spirit and a potent call to action against oppression, making it an essential and compelling cinematic experience worthy of the highest accolades.

I have yet to hear much good about it, from people very familiar with the new series on down to people who just watched it to watch it. The film business feels so much weirder now than it did before streaming. Makes me wonder how much lost media, good and bad, will happen just within the next few years as opposed to the entire prior century of film, since there's so much and it disappears so fast

Great review! Maybe the film beign more closed up, or faster, with a "better" flow is the tradicional correct way. Or how someone feels about it. I think that every discomfort is on purpose. Her time passes slower, she thinks about everything all the time. Endures it. I was thinking if I were Salles I might had a scene where Eunice is looking out a window for 6 or 10 straight minutes. With that stoic presence, only with tiny movements. The audience have the time to absorb all of the scene, and then they have to think. Then they have to think more. And then more. In a way like Gaspar Noé's Irreversible subway scene but not for shock, for introspection...

the music in the movie and the tiitle are very symbolic. Marcelo Paiva, Rubens Paiva's son and author of the original book I'm Still Here, said that the title is due to something his mother Eunice said in the midst of Alzheimer's. one day, in a brief moment of lucidity, she turned to him and said, "you see, i am still here. I'm still here." it is also a phrase from the song that Rubens Paiva's torturers played during the torture session. the brazilian military was taught by CIA agents how to torture prisoners (the Condor Plan) and one of the tactics was to play the victim's favorite song while hurting them. Rubens Paiva's favorite song's chorus goes "Jesus Cristo, eu estou aqui". Jesus Christ, i am here". the song that plays in the end of the movie is from the time it all happened, and it goes: "i've arrived from very far, and the trip was so long. and there were many obstacles on the road, but at last, >here i am<. i'm ashamed of the things i've seen. but i won't stay silent, accommodated in comfort as so many people out there do. something must be done, my friend. there's no use in resting. how much will have happened by the time we get up?" the first place where Rubens Paiva's body was hidden was the very beach his family would visit. they would unknowingly be right where his bones were thrown without even knowing. he was always there. beautiful movie.
