My dad worked for nasa and at one point there was a problem with communication but they decided to launch and fix the problem in orbit. They called my dad in because communication was his thing. I remember sitting in mission control hearing "Discovery you are go for OMS burn" there was so much excitement and it was the first time I was stunned to silence, a rare occurrence indeed.

Well, here I am again 2 years later and it still gets me emotional. I have lived a long time. I remember the "Space Race" of the 1960's. I saw the Moon Landing and I still marvel at the concept of going to the Moon and back on less technology than in a wristwatch! I remember when the Space Shuttle began and the people of America sent NASA thousands of letters DEMANDING the first Shuttle be named the "Enterprise" after Star Trek. I watched all of the launches on TV and mourned the loss of life when Challenger blew up. I watched the last Shuttle land and my heart sank at the end of the era...I never got to go and actually see one blast off in person. Last of all...this song was a pivotal time in my last son's teen years as I got him his first car and we ritually would blast this song when I came to pick him up at school. We would go "cruising" and needed to "Cool the engines down or we can kiss it all away!"...such precious memories as he is out on his own and a father now, but in my heart he will always be speeding fast in our Thunderbird and Mustang with me and singing along with Boston. As I grew up, Space travel almost became common and we just expected it to last forever. Now, I see a generation that will never know the miracle of this golden time in history, and I am SAD. Sad they missed it, and Sad it will never be again like it was then. They have missed so much, and sadly, most of them don't care.

2024 and nasa can't get off the ground. How long will we have to ask russia for a ride....
