    Why is it when you multiply the diagnols of a rhombus and divide by 2 that equals the area

    • @FunMaths15
      @FunMaths15 2 месяца назад

      If the diagonals are of length 2a and 2b, then the side lengths of the triangles (quarter-rhombi) are a and b (because diagonals of a rhombus are perpendicular bisectors of each other). Thus, the area of one of those triangles, 1/4 * Area, is equal to ab/2. This means that Area = 4 * ab/2 = 2ab = 2a * 2b / 2.

    Great video. Really enjoyed it. You include just enough detail that if I think about it I can understand each of the steps. Most of the maths videos that I watch have too much spoon feeding. Yours doesn't. Thankyou

    1:50, I got an answer of x = 5 - 3/2 sqrt(11) for the first question...I cannot figure it out how you got discriminant equal to 42...sorry

      Hi @Dragon95161, The discriminant for the quadratic in y is 6^2 - 4 x (-1) x 2 = 36 - -8 = 42. You just need to be careful with negative signs - I know I always have issues with those!
