Quiet Ruins on Floodplain Trails
Following the trail from Riverside Park through the dense woods along the river wildlife refuge, there stand foundations of stone. The inhabitants are long gone, and it fires the imagination: Who was it that once called these structures Home? Crossing the river at the next town upstream, following the trails back downstream on the opposite banks, dense woods and open grassy expanses hide more of these ancient structures. Some sheltered settlers, others mark the farms that they once worked on the fertile floodplain. Still others lead to sacred mounds and seasonal campsites abandoned long ago by the native inhabitants.

Under a Forgotten Trestle
Просмотров 8714 дней назад
Near our town there is a silent trestle that stands behind a blind of hissing black willows that few ever see. Hosting track that goes nowhere, bridging a creek that rarely flows, it is reminiscent of those 19th century British railway structures erected to provide access to Tsavo and beyond. And even when our spring floods cover the surrounding plain, this lattice of creosote beams and blacken...
The Dreams of Flathead Battles

I met a guy named James down at the local bait shop. He was gearing up to do some fishing from the banks of the river as people do here. I asked him what he was going for. "Flathead," he replied, as he directed me to a photo on the wall. It was taken at night with a flash, and James in the photo, but you wouldn't know it. He was mostly hidden from head to toe by the 5 foot monster he struggled ...

Jazzing Up Your Blues with Whole-half/Diminished Scales (Guitar, std tuning)
Просмотров 3817 лет назад
Whole-Half, and Half-Whole diminished scales are very easy to visualize on the guitar (standard tuning, or otherwise). They're symmetrical and provide great transitions. A lot of bang for the buck here... Great for the Blues, wonderful return-on-investment. Performed by Craig Schmoller. The tune "Cant Never Play the Same Note Twice" copyright 2017 Craig Schmoller/jazzCittern.com.
All Fifths Tuning on Guitar (ES335 "jazzCittern")

See a quick demonstration of All Fifths Tuning on Guitar: CGDAEB. The advantages and benefits of AFT are enormous - Beautiful symmetry, perfect logic, and hundreds of years testing by the best players in history: It's essentially cello and violin tuning applied to the guitar. Like the Happy Offspring of ES335 and Mandolin. No speed bumps like standard tuning or NST. Not a gimmick, just the best...
New Standard Tuning (NST) on Guitar (Teleberger "jazzCittern")

A demonstration of New Standard Tuning. Similar to Full Fifths Tuning, NST (CGDAEG) is all fifths, with the exception of the high string which is tuned to G. Certain technical challenges are posed by Full Fifths and its extreme high B. This is very handily mitigated by NST, as most of it is fifths but we get some dandy tight chord voicings on the top end, too. Still, it ain't nothin' but a big ...

Bach Cello Suite II - Courante Cittern/Piano Improv, "jazzCittern"
Просмотров 3,4 тыс.15 лет назад
Cittern improvisation on The Bach Cello Suite II - Courante with a piano accompaniment, extended but true to the changes Bach implied. We fondly call this "jazzCittern". The cittern, with its fifths tuning (CGDAE) is perfect for improvisation over jazz-like chord changes. (More info at www.jazzCittern.com) Think of New Standard Tuning on guitar as a cittern with a high G string added. Or a full...
