Hi Nathan, just wanted to say that everything you said in this video really resonated with me. This might be the most relatable thing I've seen in my life. I'll be 3 years on from my hemipelvectomy in January and I'm currently in the best physical state since. I was an avid climber before my diagnosis, so to hear from doctors that I may never be able to climb again really affected me back then, but I wanted to prove to myself that I could do it. So about a year after I started back on the ropes, it would be an understatement to say it was hard, but all the pain was worth it. I'm now at uni climbing 3x a week and on the verge of achieving a new personal best, something I thought I'd never be able to do. So if you ever feel like its getting hard, you just have to push through, its definitely worth it in the end. keep up the good work mate 👍

I like the idea of obstacles as opportunities to learn. Its just hard to think that way when the obstacles are so significant and life changing. I had an internal hemipelvectomy earlier in the year (I was lucky it was not a hemipelvectomy). I found myself having so much more appreciation of certain relationships and life in general. I also found myself so greedy and upset I could no longer ski and participate in other activities. Then my sarcoma came back and now I am loosing my rectum next week. I should feel grateful that its not in my lungs yet and that I have an opportunity to have surgery again. It feels greedy now to not feel appreciation to have life but I don't know how to overcome living with a colostomy bag. I need to find opportunity from that.

Hi Erik, thank you for sharing. Sorry to hear all that you have and are going through. I think taking every day as they come, being grateful for all that we have really does help. Sometimes the thought of something is far worse than the actual thing in real life. I hope that this is the same re the colostomy bag. This was a concern of mine in the event that my surgery didn't go to plan and they damaged anything internally. Like you said you have lots to be grateful for but that doesn't mean you can't feel sh*t sometimes. Feel what you need feel. I wish you all the best for your future procedures. In regards to the obstacles being life lessons. It is always the ones that are the most significant and life changing that provide the biggest lessons.

This is really amazing Nathan!!! I too had to go through internal hemipelvectomy back in April for which I was advised 6 weeks of complete bed rest and 6 months of non weight bearing , recently had my 6 month follow up, things look great and I was advised to finally use both my legs. It has been a big emotional and physical rollercoaster, I am really excited to get back on both my legs, I recently started using stairs and I'm still on both crutches. Whenever I felt like I lost all motivation to learn walking I would look at your videos and think if he can do I can do, please keep posting about your recovery journey and hopefully one day I'll be able to climb a hill without any aid, thank you soo much and I wish you a speed recovery and all the best 🙌.

I was waiting until I got some recent news before replying. 3 months ago I got my first clean scan and negative ctdna test. However, today I received a positive Ct dna test and two new likeky tumors were identified on my remaining right pelvis. I am currently sad. I need a biopsy to confirm it’s no longer a different type or grade of Chondrosarcoma, I need and pet scan and I need an mri to help with a potential hemipelvectomy. I already had an internal hemipelvectomy. My hope is that the tumor board will elect to move forward with the hemipelvectomy even though it’s considered morbid (significant effects on bladder and rectum) and that getting negative margins might not be possible. I really want to live a few more years. Maybe worst day of my life was today. Sorry. Thanks for asking.

@@erijoh03 Hi Erik, Apologies for the late reply. I am sorry to hear your news. I know there isn’t much people can say during times like this. At the same though I can and can’t imagine how you must be feeling. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. I hope that you continue to find the courage and strength to tackle whatever is thrown your way. The human body is a magnificent machine when given the right environment to thrive. Hi Nathan, thanks for taking the time to document your journey. I had an internal hemipelvectomy at the ROH in March 2018, due to a tumour in my left hip socket. Some of the screws broke so I had it done again in Sep 2020. That also didn't work, so I've just had my 3rd and hopefully last surgery in March 2022. I was also on ward 3 and would have just missed you!!. I have to say that I can totally connect with the emotions you went through. Definitely an emotional rollercoaster hey!!!. I have to say, your recovery seems to be going really well. Although I'm sure it doesn't feel like it sometimes. After having been through it 3 times now, the recovery takes months rather than weeks, and it's good to have goals but remember to rest and give your body time to heal. Wishing you all the best and I'll be following your journey with interest. Rich

Hi Rich, thanks for taking the time to comment. I feel like we may have crossed paths on a few occasions then :). Sorry to hear that your first two surgeries didn't go as planned. I hope the recovery from the one in March is going well? It is definitely a rollercoaster isn't it. The biggest of big dippers. Thank you for the reminder to rest and heal, wise words and something I have been working on for a long time but more so after this surgery. To not be too hard on myself. Wishing you all the best also and thanks again for reaching out. Nathan.

Thank you for taking the time to make these videos during such a difficult time in your life. I am facing the same type of operation. I was diagnosed with Myeloma in December 2021 and it was found that the cancer had deteriorated my left pelvis from the pubic bone past the top of my hip joint. My surgeon at this time believes I will need to have all of it removed and replaced with a prosthesis like yours. I meet with my surgeon next month to hear his plan and possible date for the surgery. I have received 5 weeks of radiation for the tumor that grew over the bone and am currently receiving chemotherapy in preparation for a stem cell transplant. Once my cancer is under control I will have the surgery. Your video has really help me prepare mentally for what is ahead. Thanks again and I wish you well in your recovery.
