Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.)
Each year, between 140 and 160 officers are killed in the line of duty and their families and co-workers are left to cope with the tragic loss. C.O.P.S. provides resources to help them rebuild their shattered lives. There is no membership fee to join C.O.P.S., for the price paid is already too high.
C.O.P.S. was organized in 1984 with 110 individual members. Today C.O.P.S. membership is over 47,000 survivors. Survivors include spouses, children, parents, siblings, significant others, and affected co-workers of officers killed in the line of duty according to Federal government criteria. C.O.P.S. is governed by a National Board of law enforcement survivors. All programs and services are administered by the National Office in Camdenton, Missouri. C.O.P.S. has over 50 Chapters nationwide that work with survivors at the grass-roots level.

I find that the struggles officers face from the outside are just as bad as the inside. We eat our own way too often. It needs to stop. The stress of the job should not be coming from within.

My neighbor Kevin lost someone else who had died. In 2021. I lost alot of cops 1 sheriff dept in a line of duty. AND we would've gone to this one last may.
I haven't gone to this in years ago when I lost my husband killed in a line of duty in Sept 8, 2002. He was a ramsey Co sheriff's dept and solder in army as well.

3:49 Heartbreaking. I can’t even imagine the grief of watching your son die right in front of you, as EMT’s try in vein to save his life. All the while knowing that the injuries sustained are just too severe to fix.
When two of my friends were killed LOD CBS news ignored the police request to not broadcast names till notification was made. It was a extremely high level incident in 1981, Other networks did respect
When my cousin was murdered the only way my family and I ever found out was I was googling my cousins name. I found on the internet articles from media everywhere about the fact my cousin had been murdered, 4 shots short range to the stomach and 1 shot to his head. We didn't courtesy of notification. That's the worst way family members can ever find this out.

From my own experience the best way to give a death notification is to not prolong the news be clear and use simple words, because I can garentee you once you hear the words that your loved one has died you basically don't hear anything else. The shock is almost instant and everything becomes a blur

I got my notification that my husband had died over the phone at 145am may 8 2007.
Similar here, twice in four years, bf and spouse.
C.O.P.S is a great Organization, they do a great job for Survivors. I am a Co workers of Officer Jeremy Hubbard End of watch 8-10-10 You will never be forgotten. I will be heading to IL in the spring on motorcycle to make a video that will honor Jeremy's 10th year. I will keep his legacy going.

Am very happy I am able to attend this year, it will be my first year but 12 years after my brother was shot and killed in the line of duty!
Isn't sad, it's the worst possible news anyone could get. Whether it's an Officer or a Couple driving down the street or an unarmed law abiding Kid with no record whose shot 25 times by the Cops for absolutely nothing.
