as a percussionist, why does the xylophone soloist not alternate his sticking as much as he should!?

I am playing this song at my first concert of the year and I have been practicing with this video Ive been slowly speeding up sooner or later I might be faster than the band altogether 😅
This is very impressive for a high school band, and pushing tempo! Seems to be about 35 to 45 bpm higher then the written tempo
Thats about 200bpm but yeah definitely up just not sure about north of 190-200

One of my favorite marches of all time. I played alto sax in HS and performed Rolling Thunder at All Region Band in East TX 1983. So much fun and brings back a lot of fond memories

Yes, the tempo is 160+, but this sounds like they’re taking 190-200
