Mortar verge replaced with cloaked tile. Not plastic
This is a topic much worth revisiting Sir. The first square section nail you showed appeared to the camera to have a bit of a coppery glow in places, so I am not sure if it was ferrous or not (confirm with a magnet - on camera - if you revisit this subject). If the first nail was ferrous then it would most likely have been wrought iron, hence the square section shank, and wrought iron is hugely resistant to corrosion, as opposed to mild steel (as per the second nail) which rusts in no time without a protection system. The Galvanising itself can quickly chaff through around the slate hole area however and render the roof nail-sick, ultimately. If that first nail was indeed ferrous..... and wrought, it is unlikely it would even have been galvanised (or Sheradized, as it was initially called). Steel didn't really start to become cheaply available until around the 1860s when massive coke fuelled blast furnaces began to develop in the North East, Cumberland, and Scotland. Kind regards.
shocking job
When you simulated the under cloak on the over cloak side why didn't you extend to the flat, just saying good video
Your not supposed to. You nail the first third just over halfway

What was the main issue? The width of the lead used? Please elaborate
@@redx11x the lead should be a minimum of 510mm wide when forming a valley
Never start a new job on a fridaay.
Hey guy, great video, thanks. May I ask a quick sports question? I’ve just had some guys put some slate (manufactured) on a vertical roof. Quite a few, where their angle cuts and inside window reveals are just glued. Is this good or acceptable work or should I insist that they were nailed/pinned. If you do reply, thanks a million
Can you show me a photo?
@@roofingshiteroofing1189 thanks for the reply. I don’t see a way to do that.
How come you say 24 degrees is pushing it? I thought slates could go low as 10 degrees, as long as you use larger size slates, and for sea conditions, is it not just a case of using thicker slates? Would be great to see some how to videos from you (if that’s something you would consider) please and thank you.
I would not slate below 22 degrees, even then I'm using a 500mm x 300mm slate with at least a 130mm head lap. On the west cost of Scotland this size slate is not ideal. I would have to get a speck in writing from the slate manufacture
10 degrees is a flat roof
can i ask the thickness of the left over hang as ive got tight space
What are you sticking down and what with please
Not sticking. Welded
Although, I appreciate your using hooks, your battening is all to fuck! The nail holes whether you’re using them or not are too high for the battens! That tells me the roof was either battened on the wrong gauge, or you’ve messed up somewhere 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
From your comment, it tells me you don't know what your talking about
@@roofingshiteroofing1189 your slates are holed for a specific gauge!,, simple as🤷🏻♂️ So Use the right kit🤷🏻♂️
There is no valley boards W T F
The roof is completely boarded with sarking
How is that any easier? I'd have been 3 courses up by now!!
Each to there own. Some cut with an angel grinder, I don't care how you do i. Just do the best you can
Muy bien con gancho de pinza de donde es pizarra Cupa /+ o Rachher cafersa o Cúbica sa spain
Could i send you a pic of a roof and get your opinion on the solution?
Sure
Back in my day had to grade them in 3 diff thickness and used to hole them to
Does not matter wot way you do it just as long you get a straight vally but good work
What did you fill the void with to prevent the condense?
Me, nothing. The new joiner had to remove the plaster board and fill it in over wall plate
@@roofingshiteroofing1189 Ok, thanks for the quick response.
a dont know why people use that stuff its not even specified by the council, the braas pib system and the rheponol were the best, a stuck with the same pvc membrane from the seventies until retirement, cant beat the old school stuff, lead zinc copper and clay tiles, worked well, the problem with the pvc any contact from bitumen or polystyrene destroys the plasticisers, a remember the days you got paid by the square yd 10 p for vented, 14 p for underlay fully bonded and 20 p for mineral finish green blue grey red white etc, maybe am just an old grumpy get
Ime getting black mould and damp ceiling in bedrooms ! All I can see is some bad areas of verge , some missing! Could this be causing the problem?
I'm genuinely lost for words seeing that
That works well, also try a sliding bevel, once the slates sit flat after any kick or tilt at eaves level, all you need is to mark from side lap to valley cut, use your level, mark and cut.
Must have been the same cowboys who messed up my roof, very similar
Sorry to hear that
Why do you get all the crap to do?
My velux window is made of wood and it cracks during sunny days. Any idea how to fix it?
😂😂
Don’t use slate hooks. Just leaves the slates prone to needing repairs and falling
warm roofs are useless full stop fella
Is this a cash job
??
There are idiots out there doing this all the time they don’t care about their customers. They don’t care about the quality of their work. Literally this country is full of them now
There are no regulations in the UK. Anybody can start up a company, in any trade with no training, knowledge or experience.
There are no
Why they use chipboard instead of strong plywood
The framing looks ok least they used brackets Could of been alot worse
Well done on the fix that was some awfull roofing 😢
I may be too late to save your life and those who look up to your ludicrous behaviour. For someone who puts himself forward as a smart, intelligent trades person. Get your working at height in order. From the off, you're standing on a plank in thin air with no fall prevention. No, it's not all right it's downright thick, beyond stupid
Is that EPDM you laid the resitrix?
Fatra single ply mechanicly fixed. I won't use EPDM
@roofingshiteroofing1189 why won't you use epdm?
It's not breathable, it is also bonded to a wooden substrate that's at due point, without ventilation it's pointless
@roofingshiteroofing1189 but you're referring to a warm roof construction in the video... Not a cold one?
Shud be soakkerd
Wow
No idea how to remove tiles with care
Learn alot about my own roof leaks watching you guys.
How old are these roofs?
Where is the other video of the slater who signed his name to his work

Neat job,, was that cast iron welded ?
Yes
@@roofingshiteroofing1189 nice, where did you get it made
It would be nice to see your remedy mate?
I don't have one the meets the home owner's pockets. The whole roof needs to come off. They just don't have the money
that meets
@@roofingshiteroofing1189 I feel your pain, some people think roofers are over priced.., they forget it’s the most important part of the house,.. if one wants the job done right, it comes at a cost. That job was knackered so they gonna have to cough up or keep paying £200+ for crappy repairs= cost you more long term! 😫
just a before and after video would have liked to see how its done
I feel for these owners i lost over £6000 on a roof retile which had to be stripped and redone after the so called expert roofer did a runner and couldn’t be found. The police weren’t interested and I had no choice but to pay somebody else. Finding a good roofer is very difficult indeed. The errors, leaks and non acceptable methods were countless and just awful.
The so called industry of all building works should be regulated and controlled. Much the same as it is done in Germany. There is no such thing as trading standards in the UK, a specially when it involves the building trade. Sorry to hear about your experience. But it is all to common
Thats not complete, you need to staple all the alarm and cctv cables to the box gutters😉. Top work, love your style.
I wouldn’t even attempt to repair that. That roofs done the tiles are porous and it looks nail sick
Reminds me of billy bleach from the fast show ... the bit where hes sorting out the money😅 good work tho 👍
Jesus, I do repairs for roofs rn and everyday I say “I’ve seen it all” there’s no way there could be worse but everyday something new pops up and this is definitely top 5 LOL so bad. THE ENDING it just kept getting worse 😭
Its a public liability claim
Also i Always worry about broken channels with moderns / stone woods
