Hi Mary!
I thought this was going to help me organise my scraps but you just talked about other people and blocks. That is not organising. I stopped listening half way through as it was mostly rambling and no information, sorry.
I appreciate you giving it a try! I wish you well on your hunt for a great video on scrap organization.
I also wanted to mention, I have electric 8 software for creating patterns. It is great! There is also a software and or app called pre quilt. It works great to insert fabrics so you can see how you need to position and place fabrics. I think it’s free with limits and or you can purchase. You can also design your quilt in it as well. It looks pretty easy to use. I just found it about a week ago and I haven’t had time to dig too deep in it. What’s great about it is their are other designers and tons of companies with their fabrics already uploaded so you can just select it there and insert in your quilt arrangement. If they don’t have the fabric you need there, it is easy to just take a picture and upload then insert. Just might be something to look at. If nothing else you can view the quilt the way you would like it to turn out just by clicking or tapping to move and manipulate until it’s the way you like it. It gives me a better visual.
This is a very good visual for beginners. I am new to quilting but I have watched my Mom make quilts for many years. I helped my Mom make a quilt for me. It’s a King size and she gave it to me and told me to get it quilted because she couldn’t afford to have it done because it was a king. My Mom passed away two years ago and I inherited half of her supplies which was tons. I got her fancy sewing machine she used and she already gave me a super nice embroidery machine 4 years before she passed away. So I never had the quilt quilted.. I recently purchased a manual quilting frame so I can hand quilt it myself. I know it will take me a while to complete it, but I want it to be extra special for when my only child receives it when I am gone. She was super close to my Mom and she tells me I am her whole world, so I know it will mean so much more if I personalize it by hand quilting it. I do have a machine quilting frame that I also received from my Mom, but I don’t want to use it to do that quilt. I am looking forward to getting it finished.
What size hexagons are you using?
This is a great question, Paula! I need to dig this project out and check for you! Thank you for following along! 💜
Love your vid. I just bought her template set made by Paper Pieces on ebay for a super great price, But I am holding out to get a better price on the book, $64 is too much for me, lol. Now I need a travel case, I have a bunch of those snap cases already in smaller sizes they used to have them at Dollar General, Walmart, etc. also. Now I need a bigger size! The only thing I haven't settled on is thread because everyone has a favorite for different reasons, I have heard Wonderfil, Guterman, etc. I love the kaleidoscope looks to the blocks and look forward to mixing and matching shapes to get that look. Corey Yoder just came out with a new line called Sunwashed that has pretty red, yellow and navy blue. Tfs, Lu
Thank you so much!! I will definitely look up Sunwashed. And yes, $64 is definitely pricey!!! You will have to keep me updated on your work. I am still working away at mine. Maybe one day I can post a video of the finished product 😂.
Great video! I also love Karen Brown
Thank you for watching!! I am really hoping to get back to filming this fall! Stay tuned 💜
One of the characters in Bambi was a skunk named “Flower”.
You are so right!! I forgot about that!! 💜💜💜
Gourmet Quilter has some great ideas for a scrap pantry. I keep all my scraps. I need to purge fabric again. I will give away yardage, but not the scraps. 🙄
I will definitely look into that, thank you so much!!
I have not heard of Gourmet Quilter. Thank you for sharing!!
Please demonstrate the stitching, I like to see how each artist does it.
Hello Douglas! I am so sorry for my late response! I am going to be getting back into adding videos soon. What stitching are you referring to? Quilting on my machine? Hand stitching the applique pieces down? Thanks!
You can label the fabric in the selvage edge like printed fabric. I write the name of the fabric with a micron pen along the selvage edge of the fabric so I don't have to worry about losing a paper label.
Thank you!! That is a fantastic idea and I intend to use that moving forward! I also plan to make more videos this new year so stay tuned!! You may just get to see your idea in use. :)
Nature with batiks are wonderful! the beauty come from eveyday anytime, in water or out- McKenna Ryan is my favorite and how she tell us first come in appliquez Thank you!
I totally agree! I have done several projects over the year where I have depicted nature with batiks and they definitely work hand in hand!
kara ian hi mary like video
Hi guys!! Thanks for watching!!
hi mary from ian an kara
Hi guys!!! Thanks for seeing me on here!!
Great video my dear!! I purchased this pattern back in 2013 and now I realize I knew NOTHING back then-lol. I love your play with layering the fabric-what a great idea!! Have you finished the project? I would love to see your results! Keep videoing!!!
I have not finished yet, unfortunately. I plan to, but there are too many projects taking my time, and also trying to enjoy my girls this summer. I plan to start posting some more videos this fall. Thank you so much for your encouragement!!
Can't hear you 🥺
Barbara, I am not sure what device you are tuning in through, but be sure to double check your volume. I just listened through my phone, IPad, and laptop and had no issues with volume.
Her voice is very soft. I had to turn up my volume way up!
Thank you. I saw Tula Pink in a whole new light today.
Awesome!! I hope you love her fabric as much as I do!! I am excited to get some of her new fabric, Curiouser and Curiouser!!
Thank you for sharing how to develop a quilt pattern. There are a plethora of quilt patterns for purchase. I am always impressed with the ingenuity of pattern designers! Your 6 steps are easy to follow, but realistically (as you know) it takes incredible time and dedication to arrive at the final step! My favorite are the first three steps :) It was fun to see a sneak preview of your "Ode to Tula" quilt, thanks and best wishes!
Thanks for watching mom!! I appreciate your support!!
This video is not only packed with numerous Tula Pink Free Spirit Linework fabrics, but also showcases great products, and awe-inspiring ideas!!! All of Tula's linework designs are beautiful, but my two favorite are the peacock print and her pencil illustration print. I was very impressed with the beautifully quilted "By Annie Bag" that I purchased from you!!! It was gifted to a teacher who loves panda bears. You did a GREAT job quilting Tula's panda bear print into an impeccably adorable bag...adding Tula's aqua & purple stripe and her aqua & purple polka dot prints for the lining and trims were absolutely perfect choices! The zipper glided open and closed so smoothly and the Renaissance Ribbon pull added nice functionality as well as more beauty to the already gorgeous bag! Needless to say, the teacher was moved to tears and absolutely loves it!!! I plan to buy more "By Annie Bags" from you in the near future! Thank you!!!
Thank you, mom! I love you!
Nice
Thank you, so much!!
Wow, Mary, this was an awesome Fabric Review! From the gorgeous "eye candy" of the Kismet fabric collection to how you will be incorporating it into the Sew By Row quilt design and then topping off this fabric review with your "process video." Very impressive! Your artistic acumen shines once again!
Thanks, mom!!
Great quilt pattern! I love how you will be using fabric rather than paints...your color palette is gorgeous! What will be the finished size? Looks like it is a bit challenging and will take some precious time...best wishes!
I will have to check on the finished size (I believe it is a queen size). Thanks, mom!
Valentine's Day is one of my top favorites too! Adorable valentine gift bags for every sweetheart and certain to bring plenty of smiles :) What a wonderful collection of heart fabrics...thank you for sharing them along with your valentine ideas!
Thanks, mom ❤️
So fun to hear about how you have been collecting fabrics over the years. I enjoy seeing your beautiful and tasteful array of fabric selections for that special quilt. You definitely have a keen eye for interesting designs and colors...so admire your artistic acumen! Happy New Year, Happy Quilting, and Best Wishes meeting your quilting goals!!!
Happy New Year 🎊😘
Thank you for introducing and demonstrating the Stripology Ruler! It is definitely a time saver and price worthy for quilters! Colorful fabrics are my favorite, but those black and white fabrics were beautiful together!
The Stripology Ruler is such a timesaver!!! Definitely recommend!!!
The Kaleidoscope Panel Play quilt is exceptional and would certainly be a welcomed and treasured gift! Until now, there has not been a panel quilt that I have found appealing. But I love how this one has a pieced border and then quilted on the panel interior...like you said, great for the novice quilter. Thank you for "keeping it real"...I appreciate how you shared the challenge of juggling your personal life with your professional life. You do a great job with both!!!
Thanks, mom! I also, as mentioned, have not really ever found a panel that I like. This panel has been very inspirational to me!!
What a special tribute to Tula Pink in your creative "Ode to Tula" quilt! Her fabric color palette is bright and beautiful; the pink swan heart fabric made me feel warm and happy. Thank you for you calling attention to the incredible details of the illustrations, it definitely made me appreciate her fabric line even more. I look forward to your future Tula Pink fabric reviews!
Tula Pink is such a fabulous artist!!
I would be wise to start quilting now for next Christmas! Your new spin on old quilting ideas are so admired...especially the Dresden snowflake with the dainty snowflake stitching...now that's innovation! Great idea to invite fellow quilters for a block exchange party...bring their cookies to exchange too! Love the simple scrap ideas...the Christmas trees and Missouri Star blocks are so sweet and sure to warm any home!
Yes...I will definitely start sewing for next Christmas early!! Thanks, mom!
Your artistic abilities shine! Love the potpourri of ideas...a glimpse of abstract art history woven into quilting...the use of retro scrap fabrics for making an abstract (chevron) quilt block and the use of scraps to design and piece blocks for your nursery inspiration. I appreciate how you shined a beautiful light on abstract art and scrap quilt piecing while weaving it into the gamut of life...mature to the innocent. Very inspirational and creative! Thank you!
💕💕💕Thanks mom!💕💕💕
Wow...Great job with free motion quilting! What a sweet and thoughtful gift for Ruby and Violet...they will love the mermaid quilt, doll, and accessories :) "Practice makes perfect."
Thanks!! They currently have everything with their babies...they love it :)
Your videos are always inspiring! I am making a list of 2021 New Year's resolutions and plan to add "using my stored fabric and scraps." That "Sew By Row" pattern looks amazing; I can hardly wait to see that quilting project in your future video! Very pretty earrings...best wishes to your friend!
Thank you, mom! I can't wait to see what you end up making with your scraps!!
Simply Amazing! What an adventurous endeavor to design and print your own fabric. Thank you for walking through the whole process in your video...always appreciate tips and tricks. Love the "pie taker" you are making with your lemon-print fabric!!!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks mom :)
Thank you for sharing your thought process, it's great to see how some is inspired to make a block.
Thank you so much!! I also LOVE to see and hear what others are doing and their thought process. That is my most favorite thing about being in a quilt club 💜.
I can't throw away fabric either. For years I used small random pieces or 2.5" squares as leaders and enders. I just keep adding to them until I can get a 9.5" block. I have several tops put together using them. Someday I'm going to get them quilted.
Sherry, I have become more aware now, of how to manage my scraps. I am hoping that I can keep them under control and then make myself make some quilts with them as I go. Thank you!!
LOVE the lemons!
Thank you, Mary Kay!!
Easy??? Wow!!! Absolutely love the gorgeous Knitted Star quilt square that you made!!! The design appears to have a time consuming and tedious quality, so it was nice to hear that it goes together well. Like you said, it is great that the pattern can be made into a wall hanging, a throw, or a larger quilt. Good Luck with making future Knitted Star quilt squares; can't wait to see your finished art piece!!! I would be remiss not to mention that the vibrantly colored (Libs Elliott fabric) quilt was impressively stunning!!!
This pattern really is easier than it looks, promise! I just really wish we lived closer so that I could show you!
You are amazing!!! You make the art of paper piecing look effortless! I love how you integrated so many different fabrics and created an array of beautiful flowers and flower pots! Great job!!! (Delighted to catch an unexpected glimpse of that precious little girl :)
You would LOVE paper piecing because I know that you have the patience and precision for it! I would love to show you how to do it sometime!! And yes, it started storming really bad in this episode- I mean really bad, and it woke Violet up from her nap while I was filming this.
Loved your fabric choices in this episode! Simple, sensational, and spirit-moving for the holiday season! Can't wait to see your finished quilt design!
So excited that you loved this fabric, mom! I know it is pretty modern and monochromatic, but I am just in love with it!
Lovely fabric! Again, your talent shines in the creation of the crayon art folios! What a special gift idea for children!
Thank you so much mom 💕
Awe thanks so much for highlighting my Hooked Fabrics! Keep on being awesome! You rock!
Sweet!!! You are seriously one of the BEST!! Love all that you do, and I cannot wait to see what's next!! Thank you so much!!
Love it! Very cute fabric and your crayon folio 😍
Thank you! Cheers!
Sew Fun!!! This episode was full of interesting tips and great ideas!!! Thank you for refueling my sewing passion every week!!! Sew many projects and sew little time :)
"Sew little time", this is the story of my life! Little by little I have been carving out bits of time to work on projects. I have two more that I have to get done and then I can start finishing up some of my own projects. Not complaining though, I absolutely LOVE what I do!!
Thanks for explaining that it's okay to have a few imperfections. It's easy to become discouraged when little puckers won't iron out! As always, your quilting is a beautiful work of art!!! Recently, I found a quilt toppings book that explains how to add fun and fancy embellishment techniques. Perhaps you may find it interesting for learning how to add dimension to quilting projects.
I can't wait to take a look at that book!! I love learning all the things when it comes to sewing and, especially, quilting!
You have an exceptional ability for selecting the most appealing coordinating fabrics. Love the fabrics and love the Sweet Home quilt! Best wishes finishing that beautiful art piece!
Thank you, mom! Love you!!
Love the Sallie Tomato handbags in your video. Thanks!
Thanks, Mom!!
Mary I would like to order some things and the cork material from Sallie Tomato Thanks for introducing it to me. Keep up the fantastic videos
Awesome, Aunt Marlene! You will not be disappointed! I can't wait to see what you create. Thank you for your support!!
I adore batik fabrics and this turned out stunning! I can't wait to see it finished! 😍
Thanks, Katelyn!! Love you!! Hopefully I can show you the finished in person someday.
Wow, impressive!!! Your patience and creativity shined through with this challenging and intricate project...great job!!! I can't wait to see the finished quilt :)
Thanks, mom!! And thank you for this kit!! It was a labor of love to complete 💜.
Absolutely love your creative use of scraps for piecing together adorable quilt blocks!!!
As you know, I have quite the scrap collection! Trying to organize it so that it is easier to pull from 😂💕.
I would want those framed they are so cute!
My thoughts exactly, Katelyn! What animals do the boys like?? (contemplating possible Christmas presents ☺️).
