As an electrician that does strictly remodels this is an absolute essential tool. ruclips.net/user/postUgkx0vyBwjtx9GGOuiqUVT2sRoYqmDoNT_RI Being able to precision cut any material with a light weight tool is priceless.I upgraded to this Dewalt 20v from a competitor's 12v. The Dewalt 20v is just as light as the competitor's 12v. I am extremely pleased with the overall performance and battery life of this tool. As far as oscillators go, they just aren't very ergonomic tools. The dewalt oscillators have an offset handle that do make them somewhat more ergonomic than the competitors' oscillators.
I used starlock blades on my older tm51 all the time. It's the other way around, the standard blades dont fit on the new starlock model. Thanks for the review
It might be nice tool..it doesnt make sense to call it starlock system ,when the only starlock thing is the blades...it still has the same principal ...
Hello, great vid ordered one myself, waiting for it to arrive! A question; do you know which inlay i could use for it, in a makpac? Will it fit the old inlay for the DTM51? Thanks!
Seems like a step backwards to me. The old one was heavy and bulky, but blades were cheap, and you can get them from anywhere. Not so with star lock. I will stick with my old one.
I may just buy the brushed version. The blades seem like a pain in the ass and will probably be super expensive for the star lock system. I wouldn’t pay over $150 for this type of tool either. I see them on eBay for $250+ tool only which doesn’t seem reasonable to me. I’ll just grab the brushed version when it goes on sale for $100 at Home Depot or comes with a free battery. Thanks!
I really like the older brushed version, one of my favorite tools. Some people say the barrel grip is too wide, but I find it comfortable enough. They are down to about $120 now, I suppose they probably will go on sale once the new model hits retailers. Supposedly the best 18V multi tool is the DeWalt, but I tried one and found the vibration more irritating than the Makita (not like I'd bother getting into another battery line anyway...). It's very noisy but that is probably unavoidable with this kind of tool.
I bought this on EBAY and just received today from Japan. Very nice economic design and low vibration. Wondering what dust extraction accessory will fit as the owners manual is not in English.

Does anyone have some historical knowledge about how long it usually takes for models newly released in Japan to make it to the USA market? It would help to have a guestimate. This might be quite a nice upgrade over the current one. I recently picked up the newer hammer drill (the model is XPH14 in the states) and I think it is a BIG upgrade over the older model. Much lighter and a little bit more powerful.
Don't know the exact answer but as a makita guy myself I'm always wanting the latest models and from my experience ita usually around 2 years. I wouldn't expect it here in the US till atleast Winter 2022.
You don't require the power for plenty of tools and the 40V (36V nominal) has twice the cells, larger size, heavier, and higher cost than say a 2.5 amp hour 18V pack. Milwaukee sells a lot of 12V (10.8V nominal) oscillating saws because it can have a tiny 3 cell 2Ah pack that fits in the handle or a much larger 3 cell 6Ah pack to do very heavy duty work. An 18V 5Ah pack should have a longer runtime than your hands will handle...massive vibrtion for hours is not a good thing for the fingers.
That's a nice looking tool! Thanks for posting this. I'm a Makita fanboy and love new releases. I'm assuming you live in Japan??? Is the die grinder you mentioned the brushed version or a newer brushless? I have the brushed version. Looking forward to more videos!

So basically you've got the same pin, a slightly different lock handle and the tool and the blades are twice the price?
You can buy a starlock to ois adapter, there we go, this is the best one now!

They gave us less accessories because they know us guys are crazy with tools, and we gonna buy it anyway just like iPhone.
Good review ! and I preferred the DTM51 because more versatile on blade choices compare to the newer model :)
Do the new recessed blades fit on the older DTM51 model?
The head looks much fatter on the new one. I already have trouble getting the old one into tight spaces.

Pretty average review. He has absolutely no idea what parts/components are called. Weekend warrior much. At least show it in action. Amateur

Where can I buy this in USA?
This is what I’m looking for, I just cannot get it in the USA, I’ve looked everywhere. Do you have a link for a Japan based seller?
Ebay has it for $200 dls

Share the link or the seller info please.

I talked to a Makita Rep in Canada, she said it should be released in June 2021

@@njmikeche5575 not saying it will be but that's what I've experienced over the last 5 or so years....
This has been out a while in Japan.. Then Australia and the uk get it and eventually north america will get it. Probably the end of the year
This one might not be that much of an upgrade since you'll be relegated to the starlock system.
they probably got rid of the click because it has an issue with getting jambed up, I have had to take mine apart to clear it before
Why 18v? and not 40.This outdated
because most of us have thousands in the 18V platform, duh!
It's not outdated makita is keeping their lxt line also. If you don't need the the 40v then why get all new batteries don't make sense

I’ve wondering when this will be available in Canada. Thanks for the review
Check ebay
Nice tool!
Halte doch die Kamera still Mensch 😡
Hi gay, can you say how much this?
Are they going to make a new brad nailer
Not having the push fit starlock is very disappointing
Watch Scott Brown's thorough review of his three multi-tools, you'll change your opinion

Same how can I buy?
Where did you find the new one to buy? I searched the model number on it and couldn't find anything
Tm52dz in japan. It's being released in Australia in August.
