Hi, there: I'm afraid this isn't the dative of interest. This is using reflexive pronouns as an intensifier. The dative of interest uses indirect object (dative, from Lat. dare, cf. Spanish dar) pronouns, not reflexive ones -- ex., se me cayó el vaso (literally "the glass fell itself to/for me," while generally meaning that "I dropped the glass accidentally"). There you can see both the reflexive and dative of interest deployed separately!
Thanks for commenting, agree to disagree, "se me cayó el vaso" is an accidental construction in which dative of interest is used, but also are sentences like "me leo un libro" (I read a book), the reflexive pronoun is not really needed here, we add it to express the subject's "interest", if we say "leo un libro" the sentence is basically the same...now, as a native speaker I can tell you (at least here in Colombia) we use the dative of interest all of the time, even when we don't really mean "interest", most people here will tell you "me leí un libro ayer" instead of "leí un libro ayer"
This is actually incredibly helpful. Reflexive pronouns before non-reflexive verbs have always been one of the most confusing things about Spanish to me

I’m half Dominican and I really wanna know my native language. Do you offer personal lessons? Gracias Senor
Yes I do, but keep in mind that I'm from Colombia so there are some differences in expressions and idioms, I spent some time in the USA and met some really nice Dominican people
I am a novice, so this may not be helpful, but I learned today that encantar is being used here as an affective verb, so it is conjugated differently from most other verbs. (Some other affective verbs are gustar, enojar, alegrar, entristecer, aburrir, molestar, preocupar, aterrar, and asustar.) Affective verbs affect someone, thus, the object/person that is affected becomes the subject of the sentence. For this reason, these verbs are always conjugated with the third person, singular or plural.
Thanks for commenting, Spanish is a very complex language, verb conjugation is a major thing for foreigners to deal with when learning Spanish, check this out: VERB MOLESTAR 1- Yo molesto a mi hermano - I annoy my brother - SVO structure 2- Yo lo molesto - I annoy him - SVO using direct object pronouns 3- Yo me molesto cuando te demoras mucho - I get mad/angry/annoyed when you are too late - Reflexive form 4- Me molesta que llegues tarde - it makes me mad/angry/annoyed when you are late - pronominal construction Th 4 different ways of using the same verb can mean different things, and the 3 of them need you to conjugate the verb differently depending on the subject and tense, the 4th one is the same conjugation for all of the indirect object pronouns, it only changes depending on tense and whether the object is singular or plural... These kind of things canbe of course learned by studying them, but if u can get a basic understanding of this and then you expose yourself "consciously" to the language I'm sure it'll help u to iprove your skills a bit faster
@@spanishwithmike This is very useful. Thank you.

I want to read books, but i don't know how to begin. I think what about pronunciation! Are there books that give you the meaning an pronunciation? if so, can you give me a couple to look out for
Well, I'll have to look at that...as far as books I don't have any info but I can certainly suggest something that works very good or Spanish speakers who struggle when learning English, watch kids cartoons, with subtitles, they are designed to help kids to improve communication skills, so they are ussualy clear, basic and simple yet informative, I would start with Peppa Pig and or Dora la Exploradora, in Spanish, using subtitles, I know this can sound silly but don't underestimate the power of learning using these kind of resources, let me know how it goes!
sincs its spanish and there is a Spanish flag there as well shouldn't be a "vosotros" form as well
Yes and no, Spanish flag (from Spain) is the "standard" symbol for Spanish language, I am from Colombia and I say in almost all of my videos that the Spanish I show is mostly latin american Spanish, there's some videos in which I show examples for VOSOTROS but in the most recent videos I don't
@@spanishwithmike That's fair enough. By the way, I'm about to visit again. It's one of the most beautiful countries I've ever seen.
@@ibite100 always welcome, we are going through rough times now though, but yeah, it is a beautiful country
@@spanishwithmike based on my very limited knowledge about Colombia, rough times seem to be the norm there.but that's a feature for the whole continent in most countries. US , as always, was keen to bring "democracy" everywhere by all cost. even if that cost is destroying the whole country and keeping it that way. I like colombias new stance regarding Israel. more should follow. sorry for the politics. great country, looking forward to see it.
@@ibite100 it's ok, thanks for sharing your thoughts! And you're right, that's been some kind of a feature down here...in fact we just were on a strike by the transportation guild...they blocked roads for a few days and some kind of chaos arose from that...it's over now, one bad thing is I had a good friend coming to visit us from the USA, he was supposed to arrive tomorrow, but he cancelled his flight the day before the strike was over, just because he didn't want to risk jumping through hoops here and perhaps situation going worse...
can a normal verb be converted to reflexive verb ?
Yes, in Spanish, many normal verbs can be converted into reflexive verbs by adding a reflexive pronoun that corresponds to the subject. This changes the meaning of the verb to indicate that the subject is performing the action on themselves. Let's take a look at these examples: Normal Verb: "Lavar" (to wash) Reflexive Verb: "Lavarse" (to wash oneself) Normal use: "Yo lavo el carro." (I wash the car.) Reflexive use: "Yo me lavo." (I wash myself.) Normal Verb: "Levantar" (to lift or raise) Reflexive Verb: "Levantarse" (to get up) Normal use: "Él levanta la mano." (He raises his hand.) Reflexive use: "Él se levanta." (He gets up.) Normal Verb: "Poner" (to put) Reflexive Verb: "Ponerse" (to put on oneself, like clothing) Normal use: "Ella pone el libro en la mesa." (She puts the book on the table.) Reflexive use: "Ella se pone el abrigo." (She puts on her coat.) When converted into reflexive forms, the meaning often shifts to focus on the subject performing the action on themselves or experiencing the result of the action directly.
Hola Mike, does they work with all verbs or just a certain list of verbs?
Hola, do you mean the Indirect Object Pronouns? If so the answer is no, not all of the verbs can be sued with IOP. Indirect object pronouns are commonly used with verbs that involve transferring something or communicating something to a person or thing. Some examples of this: Dar (to give): le di el libro a María. (I gave the book to maría.) contar (to tell): te contaré una historia. (I will tell you a story.) They are also used with verbs that express a reaction, interest, or emotion toward someone or something. for example: Gustar (to like): me gusta el chocolate. (I like chocolate.) Importar (to matter): no te importa mi opinión. (my opinion doesn’t matter to you.) Indirect object pronouns are also used when the action benefits or harms someone: Cocinar (to cook): le cocino la cena a mi madre. (I cook dinner for my mother.) Quitar (to take away): le quitó la silla al niño. (he took the chair away from the child.) Verbs that don't imply an action directed at another person usually do not use indirect object pronouns. examples: Nadar (to swim): ella nada en la piscina. (she swims in the pool.) there is no recipient of the action. Hope this helps

Hola Mike, It probably doesn't matter but is there a reason to how it works that you can use the same conjugation with all the indirect object pronouns?
Sure, it is because in Spanish the conjugation "subject" is always the same, check this out: Disgustar (as Not To Like) Me disgusta algo(I don't like something) Te disgusta algo (You don't like something) Nos disgusta algo (We don't like something) In these sentences the translation is a regular SVO structure in which the subject changes but the object remains the same...but if we take DISGUSTAR as DISPLEASE (just to show you the way the structure works in Spanish) we will have: Me disgusta (something displeases me) Te disgusta (something displeases you) Nos disgusta (something displeases us) In these sentences you can see how the object we refer to is always the same, hence the conjugation won't change. In Spanish we use the IOP as a subject, in English the same sentence uses regular object pronouns. Hope this helps!
Muy buena lección, mil gracias Mike!
Siempre un placer, vienen m'as videos, más verbos!!!!
Hi Mike, can you share more about the meaning of disgustar? I am used to using "no me gusta..." Is there any difference in use?
Sure, think about this: "No gustar" is milder and simply expresses a lack of liking, while "disgustar" expresses a strong negative reaction, often involving disgust or upset. "No gustar" is more commonly used in everyday situations where you simply don't like something. "Disgustar" is used when something strongly offends or repels you.
@@spanishwithmike thank you!
@@spanishwithmike por ejemplo: me disgusta los políticos de Estados Unidos ✅
@@AdventureswithDreadandFriends Very good my friend, just keep in mind the singular or plural object, the word "políticos" is plural whereas the word "política" is singular, as far as I understand the word "politics" can be both singular or plural depending on the context, so check this out: me disgustan los políticos de Estados Unidos - DISGUSTAN cause "los políticos" is plural - I dislike politicians in the USA me disgusta la política de Estados Unidos - DISGUSTA cause "la política" is singular - I dislike politics in USA

Hola entrenador Mike, is “El libro me importa” the same as “me importa el libro” Would that be correct? Gracias
Hola, puedes decirme solo Mike, así es, ambas frases significan lo mismo, no existe diferencia entre ella más que el orden de las palabras. Both sentences are exactly the same, they convey the same idea, the only difference lays on the order of the words within the sentence. You can use any of the sentences and you will be meaning the seam idea.
Hello Good evening sir I also heard these challenges online that you can learn Spanish or any other languages in just six months. I don't think so this is possible. I m also not a native English speaker i learned High intermediate level (not Advance level) English and it took me 3 years just by watching movies and programs on TV. And from last 10 months i m in Spain and learning Spanish language. And i learned low intermediate level of Spanish in very little time. Although Spanish is more complicated and deficult then English. I think the big reason of learning fast Spanish was because I knew English and these both languages share 30 percent of words like cognates, identical verbs etc. Here in Spain i saw so many Indians and Afghan people who spent years here but still can't speak Spanish. They speak just basic level.
Hi, thanks for sharing your experience, you are right, it does take time. There's a lot of different factors involved in language learning, for some people is easy, for some it is not, in average it takes time and just saying "learn the language" doesn't really mean anything, what does it mean to people? To learn some sentences and have a basic interaction with other people? to be able to read basic texts? To me it is way more than that and it is a journey that never ends, I still learn things in Spanish that I wasn't fully aware of, with English happens the same, I started over 40 years ago and I still learn new things at least every week. Most of the hype comes from the need to sell and from the fact that we have been "taught" to look for fast and magic methods for everything. Enjoy the ride and keep on learning my friend!

I'm glad to hear about it, see u next class!!!!
Why in the spanish dictionary they change it to yo = encanto tú = encantas but with your example you keep it as the same for all pronouns and changes depending on tense ? I'm confused
Good question, if you watched the video you will see the usage of the verb is when it is translated as "to be pleased" which is basically the way we use it in Spanish: Me encanta trabajar contigo - I am pleased to work with you Nonetheless, the verb ENCANTAR can be translated as "to charm" and it is used in a different way, in this case without the indirect object pronoun: He charms the audience with his voice - Él encanta a la audiencia con su voz These are some subtleties of verb conjugation in Spanish Let me know if this helps
@@spanishwithmike Hi Mike thanks for the reply, I'm not sure if i give a good explanation of what I meant.
