👍
Always good to see Rise of the Samurai love. I think it gets neglected a lot by Shogun 2 players.
To be honest, it was also neglected by me. I maybe played 3 campaigns with this DLC and didn't love it, but this campaign really changed my perspective on it! I'm really enjoying it.
I could never get into this expansion. Never liked that loose formation which is forced upon a player and low morale.
I felt the same - the loose formations and poor morale makes you feel like you're not leading an army but instead a horde of peasants. To be fair, that's what the levies are, but I feel like at the attendants and warrior monks should feel more like soldiers. But I also have to admit, I enjoy this campaign very much and can see myself playing the other clans as well!
Great stuff😊
Thanks for posting your games, love Shogun 2. I am kind of curious though on why you were attacking the enemy ninjas with metsuke from a further away town than the metsuke in the town right next to the ninja. I assume that it was a higher level metsuke so had a higher success chance and lower chance of being killed, but personally would have chosen the close metsuke both to farm experience and because when you attack a character right next to your town with a unit embedded in the town then it will stay embedded in the town so you don't lose revenue.
Honestly, when looking back at this, I think it was just an oversight :D I think I missed that I had a Metsuke in Mikawa.
@@IkkoManu Totally understandable, I just wanted to be sure I wasn't missing something as you are really good at this game =)
I usually use the 'Benign agents' mod. It forbids any aggressive action by agents, saving me effort and money in agent wars, which I don't like
Sounds interesting...but does that also prevent your agents from performing aggressive actions?
@ It does. Pure army movement, economy macro and battles. Agents only act passively as spotters, province converters (monks), or increasing income (metsuke)
Understand...sounds interesting as a nice change of pace, but probably males the campaign a lot harder doesn't it? The AI doesn't really know how to use agents to the best of its advantage and I often rely on Ninjas for sabotaging armies...
@ It does. I like to make it a little harder for myself. To stop an impending invasion I have to have the proper recon (by spreading ninjas around) and army movement. It's also more immersive for me personally, as IRL I can't magically stun an opposing army for 1 season anyway.
Sounds very intense and probably requires a more methodical playstyle with more pre-planning than what I do :D
lol you just need 16 bow kobaya every stack of navy then auto resolve it much time saving and cheaper faster to build/upkeep in each side of japan map protecting trade node
Love your content, keep up the good work man <3
Thank you! <3
Can you please start rise of samurai campaign)
It's not my favourite DLC, but I'll do it! I'll probably mix in episodes with my next regular Shogun 2 campaign :)

God bless our land, freedom and guns! FREEDOM FOR OTOMO of JAPAN ! I’m sub for ya buddy! LOVE SHOGUN 2!!!
That's the right attitude :D thanks for the sub :)
Otomo is such a vibe clan
They really are :D and so fun to play!
bro why you not setup archer or matchlock palisade and basically play tower defense against noob ai
In which battle? I was the attacker in both...or is there a strategy that I don't know?
@@IkkoManu sent all your archer/ranged unit close and connect to enemy army then end turn the ai will automatic attack your archer unit regardless they have vision of larger and better army behind it basically just retreat your archer unit and the ai will attack it again
@@IkkoManu make palisade with "letter V formation" then retreat camping in hill top or bridge/ridge the enemy archer will stuck at palisade wall then basically just play tower defense archer as an damage dealer and yari wall as an tank
@@IkkoManu and best strategy and best unit draft is 20 warrior monk archer unit with upgrade accuracy and fire arrow as an siege and bait army then 10 katana samurai 8 yari samurai and 2 katana cavalry as an reinforcing army "you can add kisho ninja or matchlock for fun"
@@yellowegg0 Sounds like a really solid strategy! I have to say I have never tried anything like this...need to try that or something similar in my next campaign!
Great series. I think it's always better to command yari ashigaru to walk through the enemy than to order them to charge the enemy, but I'm not sure. It might be becaude they maintain the formation better and so the pokey sticks work nicer
First of all thanks and I'm glad you're enjoying the content! And then yeah it's true that walking let's them hold the formation better, but when they run they might be able to reach an important position before getting attacked, so in my opinion it's a trade-off.
Pronounced "oh-uchi" rather than "ouch-i" 👍
Thanks for letting me know :) my pronunciation of these clans and units is not the best, so let's see if that one sticks :D
New enemy ? As Otomo everyone is your enemt
True hahaha
Playing the Master of Strategy mod since several years, I forgot how the original map looked like. Thanks for the video.
Man, I need to check out that mod! I'll probably do it after I'm done with all base game campaign series... Anyways, glad you're enjoying the content!
Great campaign, the Date are my favorite clan aside from the Hattori. Would love to see a Hattori campaign or a Sendai campaign in Fall of the Samurai someday!
Yeah, the Date are very fun to play! I will definitely do both of those campaigns at some point :)
Hey. I have question. Started to play Shogun like 3 weeks ago. If I buy dlc, rise of the samurai, are there any news for original campaign or just the new one I am not that much interested in ? Mean if there are any new good features or mechanics for original game ? Thanks
Maybe I can help out here, I'll talk about both DLCs, ROTS (Rise of the Samurai) and FOTS (Fall of the Samurai) have enough variation to be interesting on their own, from Realm divide to agent mechanics. Not to mention the difference in the Roster. They both tie perfectly to their era, in ROTS, if you are a historical nerd, you get to fill you ranks with numerically small yet superior and all purpose samurai units that set the foundation of Japan during the Genpei war. While in FOTS, you would mainly be rushing to get better tech faster than other faction for all the firepower goodies, but doesn't necessarily mean your traditional Samurai and levy units are useless. If you play your cards right, you can reenact battles like the Last Samurai. In short, Yes, I would recommend them.
So, the two large expansions are pretty much standalone. They do not change the original campaign whatsoever, but I still reccomend them. Especially Fall of the Samurai is super fun!
@@IkkoManu I spent a grand total of about 400 hours in Fall of the samurai. Amazing game. Havent ever really gotten into Shogun 2 itself or Rots, funnily enough
That was a fun episode. Juicy AI blockade made you sweat a bit ;) When you were briefly bankrupts as I was squirting my eyes to try and see the cash on hand/income (and failed to do so) I figured it was finaly time for me to strongly suggest the use of 'Big Font' mod when you're recording. While it doesn't change the gameplay in any way at all, all this mod do is, as the name suggest, increase the font size of the game interface. Making it so much more readable for us viewers when watching your let's play on a different display (laptop, tablet, TV) than the giant a** gaming monitor you're obviously recording on ^^ My crappy old eyes are thanking you in advance.
Thanks! Glad you're enjoying the content :) I will take a look at that mod and will probably use it as it sounds very helpful. Just know that I already recorded 11 episodes of this campaign, so for at least the first 11 episodes you will have to endure the small text :D
Nice move
You might want to double check the video title brother ;)
@@vincentdesjardins1354 hahahaha thanks :)
47:36 Victory at turn 86 is decently fast actually. Date have a slow start with the distances of the first towns plus you weren't specifically aiming for a fast campaign. For reference my fastest regular* Date campaign was won on turn 75 and I had a fast victory in mind since the begining. That was a great Date campaign, thanks ! Please spoil me : What clan is to come next ? * by regular I mean a campaign played normally (no movement glich blitz, no scum reload for agent actions) with recruitment of decently upgraded samuraï units (campaigns can be won faster with ashigaru spam but a whole campaign of only bow ashigaru bait and vanilla yari wall angagements is tedious to play)
Thanks for your feedback! Yeah, I was expecting this campaign to be slower than the other ones and as you said I wasn't pushing for the fastest campaign ever, so 86 turns is fine. I haven't started the next campaign yet, but atm I'm strongly leaning towards the Otomo :)
@@IkkoManu so guns, christianity and almost constant rebelions ... LFG !

great vid! i tried the choke point strategy with the mines, between the two islands. They got stuck behind one another and i only had two left before i lost lol.
Yeah this battle can be insanely difficult...it's definitely the hardest one. I won it once with the chokepoint strategy, but I feel like it doesn't really add that much value as their ships usually just rush you like crazy anyways...
Beautiful
Hello Fight like a real commander. Use strategy and terrain effects to win the battle, not AI weaknesses. I finished Date clan legendary, never mocked my generals like this.
Hi :) Completely valid point, but everyone can play how he wants. If you wanna stick to realism, that's completely fine! However I'll cheese out the AI if want.
@@IkkoManu You are right, but unfortunately I was disappointed. I was eagerly looking at what tactics and skills someone else was using to see if I could learn something new. You are not the problem, I am. Enjoy your game however you like. I wish you the best.
Of course, whenever you change your ways and want to face the fear of losing, like a real Japanese clan chief, I will eagerly follow you to learn new things, and of course, the feelings of real fear and joy, again, I will not interfere with your way of enjoying.
30:11 "I f you vassalize a clan after Realm Divide they will not betray you." I got near 2000hs over 12 years on this game and still learning things. What a masterpiece ! Thank you for the tip ! side note : They won't betray you but at some point you gonna be forced to betray them since you need their territory to win the game. So I'm wondering if your Daimyo will still loose a point of honor then, even after RD ? Since lowering the honor can cause trouble with public order. One way around would be to save them for last ?
Yeah, it will definitely still lower your honor which could be problematic for public order or the loyalty of your generals...won't be a problem in this campaign tho...the Bessho will seal their fate themselves...
13:56 "maybe I'll wait 1 turn, we'll get more money next turn" You're so absolutely right ! I experimented quite extensively with various turns (1st, 2nd, 3rd, ...) and durations of Military Access : The absolute best deal one can have is for 10 turns of MA on turn 3. Like you here, playing as the Date selling to the Hatakeyama, I usualy get over 3100 (the RNG of your specific game is of course a factor) for 10 turns MA but on the 3rd turn. nb. There's a steep diminishing return : waiting longer than turn 3 or selling more than 10 turns MA only increases the amount marginally.
That's super interesting and good to know! I'll keep that in mind for future campaigns. But I also noticed last campaign (with the Takeda) what can go wrong when selling MA...the Satomi betrayed me and had their army standing in my back territories already. That nearly went completely wrong :D
@@IkkoManu Selling MA is indeed a double-edged sword. Sure you make some quick cash but it makes the tactical situation extremely volatile. Over the years I went back and forth one extreme to the other, never selling MA to selling it on every possible occasion. My take on it nowadays is to sell MA only once at the begining (turn 3) to boost the start up (precious early game) but never selling it again. In your Takeda campaign it had huge ripple effects, being betrayed by the Satomi forced your hand into an Ashigaru Spam strategy : to defend yourself you had to mass recruit non upgraded Ashigaru which in term bloated your economy preventing you to invest time and ressources in better (samurai) troups. At least you managed to spit out a few Fire Cavs ! One can win using Ashigaru Spam but for a Let's Play video series it doesn't make for the most engaging content, it gets repetitive fast. Plus there's gonna be series (Clans) where you will have to go for Ashigaru Spam (Oda, Ikko, Mori,...), might as well use the clans with native good units to their full extends ... Just some healthy critical thinking, I'm enjoying your content very much and will keep on watching !
@@vincentdesjardins1354 yeah, I could've avoided that situation, but once I was in it, Ashigaru Spam was needed :D In my Date campaign I intend to go for more engaging army compositions using the Date's strengths and so far it's working out great :)
@@IkkoManu Can't wait to follow the rest of your Date campaign. Great start so far !
@@vincentdesjardins1354 yeah it's going super smoothly so far!
33:27 'I realy hope the {whatever clan} won't betray me.' Famous last words ! 😉
Hahaha
22:25 "It would be great if it would send this to that port" Take at least one trade ship out of the trade node then put it back in. It will update the 'trade path' to the closest trading port. edit: I assumed Buzen was a trading port when I left this comment but realized later that it wasn't upgraded yet
Well, maybe it wouldn't have worked in this situation since Buzen was not a Trading Port yet, but I didn't know about this mechanic. Thanks for letting me know! I'll certainly make use of it in the future!
21:35 You could (should ...) have made the Besho your vassal through diplomacy 'Make Vassal'. You missed out on one free honor point, early game that's more precious than trying for a few kokkus.
True...if they're going to die soon anyways and can't drag me into more wars then that would've been really advantageous for sure!
@@IkkoManu Thanks for the quick answer. Your let's play are legit ! I appreciate your skill, strategies and the fast pacing of your videos. Cutting battle loading screens and general speeches was a very good idea! Building on that you might also consider editing out the chasing out after battle. I understand the need to do it manualy but it's tedious to watch, just a thought. Keep up the good work !
@@vincentdesjardins1354 Thanks for the idea! I'll certainly do that in future videos :)

I think you can get this by purchasing the Hattori Clan Pack DLC on Steam :)
Super refreshing to see fresh shogun 2 content. Brilliant stuff
Just started playing this a day ago still really confused about the campaign mechanic's but the gameplay is awsome
It's by far my favourite TW game!

Thanks :) Otomo is definitely one of the most fun clans!
Shogun 2, takeda and legendary difficult. Perfect , thanks :)❤
Thanks! Takeda are so fun to play!
Hey Ikko. I just bumped into this video. Let me put this comment as first comment, you know for algorithm stuff lol. Lemme watch your vids too. Your new subscriber btw. Liked. 👌🏼
Thx mate, I really appreciate it :)
great gameplay bud. also wanna point out that a also thought that bow cav are really bad until i figured how to use it. I use them in 2 ways: i bate enemy archers , place them in a single line , shoot 1 volley then retreat like 25 meters and repeat , not giving them a chance to fire once until they shatter .The other way is to bate enemy infantry in crane formation in skirmish mode. They can decimate a few units like that. I usually keep 1 in each stack and i get up to 500 kills with them. Besides , when used like that , they rank up very quick and become very nasty in melee, especially as takeda
Thanks mate, I really appreciate that :) I might want to use these tactics in this campaign! I always thought skirmish + swooping crane was broken and Bow Cavalry will get caught even by infantry, but maybe not...
@@IkkoManu it works like a charm to my surprise. when i draw enemy archers with bow cav i usually do a few cycles of fire and retreat , each one costing the enemy 25 casualities , the when they are far enough from their line i charge them with a light or yari cav wich they ignore, cuz the aggro is on the bow cav. mind you i allways play legendary with war against everyone from turn 1 plus extra chalenges like cav only in Takeda case
I definitely need to try that strategy! And respect to you for playing on this difficulty with self-imposed challenges as well!
Great Vid. Have you ever have a thought of using 1.00 unit size?
Yeah, I want to play with that unit size for my next campaign...but I need to remember to change the setting 😅
I always find it hard to have a good start as Takeda on legendary. I always get swarmed by Uesugi and other minor clans.
Yeah, this won't be any different in this campaign - you basically cannot avoid war with the Uesugi and when you're weak and distracted, clans like the Anegakoji, Satake and Satomi will see that as a good opportunity to attack...
Love your vids and gameplay. Nowadays many Total War youtuber have left this series so I was having a difficulties to find a proper channel. until I found you. I guess thank you for existing then 😊😊
