Riding Out a Category 4 Hurricane On a Sailboat!! 🌀⛵️ |Episode 62| [Sailing Horus]
In this week's episode, a category 4 hurricane, Hurricane Helene, is headed for florida. We finish up some last-minute duties before riding this one out on our sailboat. We show you our anchor setup and tell you of our location. Currently in St. Augustine, FL., helene is predicted to make landfall at Florida's big bend, which means we aren't in a direct path, but her bands will reach far out into the Atlantic Ocean. We are bracing for 70 mph wind gusts, possible tornadoes, and a storm surge. Hurricanes always exciting, but double exciting on a boat when your anchorage could turn into a demolition derby. That's just too fun playing on them live oaks.

Well yeah, the ocean side gets the blue ribbon. Gopher Tortoises 'r good fellas. They sure do like sand but not sure I've seen one on a beach before. Sand burrs can ruin your day, that's a fact.
One thing that is predictable on a boat is things will break. That being said it is a good idea or should I say my plan is... My alternator, water pump, fuel pump, starter.. the list goes on are all working but they are old. One buy one I will be replacing them keeping the old working parts for spares. The old 2 is one 1 is none rule for things that can leave you stranded and in my first year of owning my new to me boat that is what I am working on. With the 2 of you and the kids I know how space is limited but with years of experience as a marine mechanic I do not feel this is optional. On my boat it will only be me and possibly 1 other however my boat is an island Packet 27 so a bit smaller then yours so no pets and at my age NO kids. Done that been there and all grown and gone I can retire in 4 years and its time for me and my dream. I truly admire your honesty and reality of the lifestyle.
