    The underlying issues are cultural factors peculiar to the US in their intensity; a skepticism of government action in general and a belief in self-determination. Overlaid on this is the racialized nature of poverty in the US. Many Americans would also argue that the high level of inequality in LA is not a problem, but just an avoidable fact or even a preferable situation, since it's not the job of the government to ameliorate a high Gini coefficient. The housing issue and public transport issue are two sides of the same coin; LA's assistance in maintaining a mid-20th-century suburban, car-centric paradigm makes affordable housing scarce and transportation in general poor to anyone who doesn't own a car (and even to those who do).

    Wow, who would have guessed that although the vast majority of the “homeless” are mentally ill, ex-felons, or drug addicts, there is an income inequality between them and the people who actually work to earn income. Yes, put all these people into nice housing at taxpayer expense and that will surely solve all their problems. Someone should get a Nobel prize for discovering that nice housing will cure mental illness and drug addiction and encourage criminals to stop committing crimes so someone will hire them.

      Affordable housing is not “nice housing”. Affordable housing is literally asking the bare minimum. Running water, sewage, and electricity. And a roof over your head You missed the entire point about public transport as well. It’s segregation of classes by design. There are no businesses in these poor areas (as it is not economically viable to run one there). Which means there are no jobs. Without a car, a bus, a tram, or a train, it would take 1-2 hours to walk or bike to some of these places Throw that on top of the fact that homeless people lack internet to apply for jobs (because you can’t just walk in and ask for one anymore), they lack an address (for mail) or a phone number for communication with the potential employers, lack a car (which some companies require for a job), or proper education (which was mentioned in the video), it’s quite tough to get jobs when there are hundreds of thousands of wearily people who can take them Tax money is supposed to go back and benefit society as a whole. It’s supposed to help your neighbors and it’s supposed to boost the quality of life for everyone, including the homeless, ex felons, mentally ill, and drug addicts. Affordable housing is just one step in the right direction, but it’s a VERY important one and a prerequisite for solving the major problems, as well as affordable education, accessible transportation, and access to the internet. You criticize people because they “aren’t working”, when there are no jobs for them to work because companies don’t want to hire them

    • @vikinghog
      @vikinghog Год назад

      @@hehehehaw1682 well, i partially agree because Democrat policies are helping to create a permanent “untouchables” class of people who will never work or support themselves. Where we disagree concerns giving these untouchables “affordable” stuff. Why don’t you be honest and say that you feel that they should be given free housing, free public transportation, free internet, free cell phones, free cars, free medical care, free clothing, free college, free food, free computers, free tv sets, etc. However, you are not going to convince me that all that free stuff is going to incentivize them to turn their lives around and get a job so that they can stop leeching off of others. All your approach will do is convince hard working but low paid workers to quit their jobs so they can then also get everything free and not even have to work, because in many cases those low paid workers are also not able to afford cars, internet, college education, cell phones, computers, medical care, etc. in spite of the fact that they have jobs. Next will come the lower middle class workers who look around and see all the free stuff being handed out and may decide that they also don’t want to work as a slave to support others either. The bottom line is that, in my opinion, if people don’t care about themselves or take responsibility for their decisions that put them in their current situation, rewarding them by giving them free stuff is not going to solve the problem. The money used to give out all the free stuff you are advocating would be better spent institutionalizing drug addicts and forcing them to take medical care to get over their addiction, institutionalizing mentally ill people and giving them care that keeps them and others safe, providing public work jobs for uneducated people so they can learn skills and good work habits, etc.

    • @hehehehaw1682
      @hehehehaw1682 Год назад

      @@vikinghog nothing has to be free. It should however, be affordable. And accessible. We don’t even have enough middle class and luxury housing in America today (thank your zoning laws for that). Even the “good” public transportation is still dog shit, and some cities barely have any. And it costs WAY too much here. As the internet continues to grow exponentially, free internet is not a bad goal to have. For everyone. At some point it has to be considered a human right due to how far removed you are from the world if you can’t access it. Affordable phones are the same idea. Fuck the idea of free cars, we need less of those not more lmao. Affordable food, clothing, education are all goals of a healthy society. These things are not just for homeless people, these should be goals for ALL people, however right now, at least we need to help low income families and individuals. Considering our private medical insurance system at the moment is identical to a income tax based system (just more expensive), in the sense we are still all paying into a pool to pay for other peoples medical costs, yes I 1000000% support a tax based system. It would lower the costs for about 250-300 million Americans, including low income families. Idk about you, but I’m on a $100,000 salary, in a VERY nice apartment. I wouldn’t give that up if the government decides to start offering free cellphones and affordable basic housing. The government is not handing out luxury $2,000 apartments, as I said it’s literally the bare minimum. I have a retirement plan, I’m saving for a house, I’m saving for kids, for vacations, etc. you don’t get that from these government issued programs, it’s literally the bare minimum to let you scrape by
