It really is and I’m just starting to use it more, it creates a few limitations for performing in other ways, but its another powerful feature for sure.

I’d love to see your workflow with the BB- I love mine but currently only use it as a looper for parts and arrangements.

I’d be happy to give some insight. There are so many different workflows that can be used with it which is why it’s endlessly inspiring to me, I end up using it in different ways all the time, but definitely have a few methods i always jump to. Feel free to message me on here on Instagram if that’s easier and we can set something up.

Nice! I’m happy to hear that, The cycles would be a great addition to a set up or in my opinion you can do a lot with it on its own. For this set up here, the cycles is doing most of the heavy lifting, the blackbox is handling the drum loops and sound effects/atmosphere. The mc101 is just being used for an extra lead sound or to play a lead on during various parts. The main parts of the songs are done with the model cycles though, and the blackbox is adding those extra drum and atmospheric layers. The bluebox was just being used for recording here. I will say though, the model cycles will go a long way if you spend some quality time with it. It’s nice to see people are still interested in it.

@@suddenlanguage nice. Thank you for the reply! I purchased a DrumBrute Impact a week prior and a Mackie mix12fx to tune them up a bit. The Cycles is so cool. There is deeper than I thought! I'm really happy I found this under $200. It's a steal at the price I paid. Oh my gosh. Do you think those boxes are the best to add to this set up? I think the DrumBrute needs some more fx pedals. Outside of the DS-2 I had back in the day with my Peavey starter electric because Kurt Cobain used it, I don't know enough about pedals to make a decision on a couple. Any insights to help my fx journey? I haven't stopped messing with the cycles since I got it last week. Lol

@theAwakenedOne007 that’s great to hear! I’m glad you’re enjoying your time with the cycles. I have yet to play with drumbrute, but I’ve always heard good things about it. I’m right there with you in terms of a dedicated fx unit. The bluebox or blackbox would probably not fulfill that for you, the bluebox is a superb mixer and recorder, there are some effects but nothing crazy. The blackbox is on a whole other level, but it would be a lot to add to the setup you have already. But it’s all about preferences, I always got overwhelmed when I tried adding it to other setups I’ve had because you can do so much with it alone. As far as fx, I’ve tried the Korg Kaoss Pads, which are really powerful and fun to use, but ultimately didn’t flow in my long term setup. They just came out with a new one which is super expensive but looks like you can go really deep into and probably do a whole show with it. There are a few other fx units out there that I haven’t tried like hologram electronics and other Eventide multi fx pedals. So there are plenty of options, but of course you can also do way more with a computer too, so there is always a compromise. But the more you explore the more you’ll figure out what works for you specifically and you’ll have a sound that’s all your own.

@@suddenlanguage yeah, the world of pedals is tremendously overwhelming, 😅. I have been eyeing up the eventide family and the hologram family. So many options! Ha the cycles is so deep that I'm just going to keep going until I bottom out and then search for a new piece for gear. I tend to pick up new gear before I master the previous one. @@suddenlanguage I still got my Model:Cycles, it has a special place in my heart. I have a new EP coming out tomorrow that is entirely made with the Syntakt, but in the future I plan to revisit Model:Cycles or potentially pair the two machines together.

It’s getting there!

I do a combination of both, samples and loops made in logic and also sample packs. I will usually prepare all samples in logic, so that I can make “sample chains” on the blackbox, where you can use one pad for multiple samples or loops. But the fun part is the arranging, slicing, looping, time manipulation, and mixing on the blackbox though, so even the premade samples and loops from logic will be messed around with once they’re in the BB, and everything is made with that in mind.

It’s a really deep and sometimes complained device! You can spend months tinkering around with some things, but you can get sounds and music out of it that you’ll probably never find anywhere else, it’s a really unique and special machine.
