Solid Review! I paid up to get one of these. Side by sided this with my GTS that I have from 2015 and they're neck and neck. Also it's funny that you said 80 bucks for 2 OZ is fair because I did pay 80 for a 2 ounce pour at a bar before buying. One of the better bourbons I've tried in the last few years.

I remember a A&B Rebel Pick last year was very fruity.

Was really impressed with the Penelope Estate Collection 9 Year Private Select. Found a 2nd bottle for $79 and bought a backup. So good. 🥃

I hadn't heard that this year's Penelope 9 was part Kentucky distillate. (Was last year's 9 100% MGP?) You know, two or three years back, MGP bought the Kentucky distillery Lux Row. I wonder if that's where the Kentucky distillate is from. And for years Lux Row had been buying barrels from Heaven Hill so maybe that's Heaven Hill in this year's Penelope 9?

Bourbon rocks is what really helped me get into bourbon. I also love a great old fashioned. I do find that I really enjoy it neat now to be able to really taste whatever the bourbon is offering. I am still very new to bourbon as I've only really been drinking it for about 6 months and also not very often. I still really struggle to pick out too many nosing notes or even that many tasting notes either. Maybe I waited way to long to try bourbon as I'm in my mid 50s and my taste buds are just too old. Collecting bourbon is another story as I've acquired quite a few bottles in that time.

+ Perhaps I'm old fashioned or maybe just old but I enjoy one good rock in my whiskey. People should just enjoy what they like and don't worry about what other people do. Drink it drowned in grape Kool-Aid for all I care as long as I don't have to drink it.

artisan oak makes wild claims about what the cups do to the whiskey. Even if true, as a master distiller, do I want a drinking vessel changing my whiskey flavor? The cups are $60 each - they source out manufacturing and don't make anything in house I believe.

The oak cups are a great decoration, but they won't do anything to the whiskey other than make it taste like charred barrels at best. Maturation occurs because of the temperature fluctuations that happen over time. Pouring it into a cup won't make a difference. There simply isn't enough time for any chemical reactions to occur. But cool video. You got a new sub from me.

Never have heard of anything like the Artisan Oak cups. Liked learning about them. Haven't tried the Benchmark Full Proof. None of the Benchmarks are even sold in my state. Have considered ordering from out of state but then, with shipping, I'd be looking at $40 so I passed.

We got an Old Soul pick in Massachusetts and it was fantastic. It was all of the MGP notes that we love but everything was just turned up a bit. Would love to snag another bottle in our travels. Ours was only $65. Great review! Cheers!!!

I had been looking for a video that showed what it was like at Bourbon In The Barn and yours did the trick. Impressive list of rare bourbons that Jackson got to sample at the bottle share! Would be curious to know which ones stood out from the rest as particularly good and, on the other hand, which were not quite as good as you would have expected.

Sorry I'm so late catching up with this. I think I'm a bit biased: I have long been a "Star Trek" fan and once had dinner in a London restaurant sitting about 15 feet away from Sir Patrick Stewart. However, I have also been a fan of "The Lord of the Rings" and had a Laphroaig one evening in the London pub (part-)owned by Sir Ian McKellen. As that is as much as I would want to intrude into their private lives, I think I'll count both as 'having a dram with' them...
