Berserk - Favorite Guts Quote - Episode 14 Monologue
I do not own, distribute, or earn income from Berserk.
Lost dreams, the endless war that is life, and the complexities of family, socialization, and cognition are brought to our attention.
This is my favorite scene from Berserk: the series. It's a look into Guts's mind and heart, contributing to what makes Berserk one of my favorite anime, manga (early on), and anime movies. Dialogue and monologues like this were left out of the movie, taking from the humanity of the series, and the complexity of manga's writing style.
Hope you enjoy.

"I fight because I know nothing else." That quote actually hits harder once you think about it.
Welcome men of culture
Something I really like is how Guts not only remembers the names of his men but also is caring enough to listen to their stories, no matter how embarrassing or foolish they are for warriors in the Band of the Hawk. This is the same character who once was called a ‘mad dog’ for endangering his men recklessly. Bravo Miura. Your work will be remembered forever.
The dudes just needed to talk. Lol 😢
I think what unlocked this is Him killing a child , then Griffith not even considering guts as a friend, then he has to slay 100 men, and he's wondering what he ks doing ik a place like this. When he has time to think, he decides to open up and imply he's gonna leave soon thinking his departure wouldn't affect Griffith and his dream would just continue , stay on his path, a path guts can no longer be apart of
That music just hit hard❤
I need to give this adaptation a try
holy shit the dubbing is terrible
Clown ahh
I rather fight for my life then live it
Reminder that this quote is the reason you kindle bonfires in Dark Souls.
4:05 this one goes so hard
Nawwww bro, back when I was 13 in 8’th grade I did a monologue in drama and chose this, only now at 16 do i realize the lore behind it.
This scene makes the black swordsman so more understandable. He knew all their hopes and dreams just to see them betrayed.
The voice actor of guts never ceases to impress me, he is guts. You can’t tell me otherwise. You can feel the soul behind it.
Marc Diraison was also 4Kids Zoro and Ging Freecss!
The crazy part about this speech , is that it applies to everything other than fighting, could even be a cashier going through a bad day tryna get that promotion
Yesterday I went through my first heartbreak. Me and this girl have been helping each other and laughing so hard with each other. Shes a genuinely amazing person. I cried when I heard her say she already has a bf. It bumped me out for two days but after talking to some family members who’ve been through much worse, I was finally able to move on from these feelings. Even though we can’t be together I’ll still have her as a friend. I first need to love myself before I can love someone else. I have to keep walking. I hope you all find peace. 6:40pm Dec,13,23 Wednesday
Did Casca dirty with that cut
This is to this day my favorite Berserk moment. I don't think anyone follows this story for the action or power ups or anything. You follow this story to see someone rise up to life's challenges and overcome them.

I can relate so much to the part of the speech about only going on because you don't want to die. I've struggled for years because of my survival instincts kicking in and always making sure I make it no matter how hard or unlikely it was. Battled through deaths of loved ones, betrayal by the people I loved, drug addiction and homelessness. But no matter what I kept going and kept improving.
I don't think there is any anime that captures more emotion than Berserk. Sorrow, Lust, Fear, Anger, Remorse, Thrill, etc. This Anime is super dark, but in the best way.
Lust?

I fight because I know nothing else
Guts is so much smarter then he let's on.
It just takes a deeper level of analysis to realise. The reason he is so good is because he keeps his empathy and morals despite all the suffering and insurmountable injustice he faces. He still falters at points, but his ambition and iron will is what makes him a hero. His mental fortitude is at the core of everything he does and he isn't afraid to show his compassion either. He isn't perfect, but he never gives in and still fights against the god hand and the evil in the world that abused him where almost anyone else would have succumbed. He is intelligent enough to do some introspection and realise that he didn't have reasons for what he did and reflect on why. It's something so many people lack in our neoliberal world where the individual's desires are put above society
@@TakezoMushashiHe also has no justifiable reason to be good. It's just not in his nature not to. Outside of what he has to do to survive he doesn't desire to cause undue harm to others.
@@TakezoMushashiI like what you wrote but 'neoliberal' tf you talking about
@@danielnidhiry5796 probably a socialist or commie that takes any chance they get to trash capitalism. probably doesnt realize that selfishness and greed arent only exclusive to capitalism
I come back every now and then just to get a little inspiration from Guts, I love this scene so much
Every day recently
Can someone explain the quote "the reward for ambition too great....is self destruction"
If your desires are greater then yourself then you'll have to sacrifice yourself and then some to see them come to pass.
I relate with Guts
4:04 what Guts said sounds sad but is true. The most basic instinct in any living this is "Just survive" Crazy to think its been 2 years since Miura passed ☹️
At that point for him it was. He realised all the violence he engaged in was without purpose in the grand scheme of things. But slowly as he becomes aware of it he starts to realise that he still has his empathy and compassion for others, and it's what keeps him going until the eclipse. Even then, with his immense trauma afterward, he still cares for others trying to avoid them because of his brand or tell himself he doesn't care. But he does. It's why he is not just a machine but a human. His iron will is still in part his emotions. It's what makes him so good as a character. He suffers so much for no reason, without greater purpose, but still fights the good fight.
Marc Dirasion is the goat!
I really do appreciate Berserk as a 90’s kid, everything is such a masterpiece and I feel like anyone growing up watching animes like this should appreciate time because we can’t make up for those times once they pass.
What the name of that tune when he talking?
"Guts" by Susumu Hirasawa
BTW i love berserk very meaningful
I love this scene because think about it or at least hear me out. I can relate to guts…. Guts is someone who has great potential I mean he swings a heavy sword no ordinary man can hold. Slays 100 men and can even take a hit and live. Guts however had no dream a man with great potential but no direction. However.Guts knows this but still continues to work and work hard ever so he doesn’t give up or complain about it he just keeps fighting. Take something from this plz.
This mindset helped me out so much during my breakup i kept thinking about not giving up and Keep pushing forward because losing is never an option. Period.
Real
I have no idea why but the monologues in berserk just hit hard
"I fight cause i know nothing else"
Can't be the only one who actually teared up in this scene, thank you Mr Miura for making this masterpiece ❤
I remember waiting for this very moment on Netflix but they never really said that they qoute it diffrent or am I losing it?
Non-fans of animanga might think it's nothing but bloody fights and yelling, yet stories like Berserk can dedicate the near-equivalent of a whole western comic issue to just a moment of introspective like this. We love the bloody fights and yelling, but it's not just because they're just raw violence, but because they are backed by moments like this. Like Guts says here, battling and surviving is what defines him. War is the conductor through which his identity is built around. So we seek the battles, yes, but because we want to see how they will mold the character further. What we seek is growth and meaning. Just like Guts desperately reaches out for.
Sometimes I have a dream on nights with full moons...
Does anyone know where i can find an english dub of berserk
Simple. Here on RUclips, Fullscreen with no skips.
Neva 2 much
It's not a monologue if he's talking to someone. It's a conversation.
Yeah
"yea, pretty much" one of the most badass lines in existence
"Everything was for nothing "
I’ve never had anything else except my sword… except else… I was just kidding about the else!!
Its crazy that every episode of this anime has a masterpiece scene like this in it and its even crazier that the rest of the whole story never comes close to this level of writing...
Bro really ended the clip on "so am I" lmao
It's crazy how in alot of ways I find this relatable to the events happening in my own life
Scene comforts me when i feel the lowest in this shit life before I had a bitch that made me escape reality till the bitch did me wrong now I feel like shit every time bout the whore
