Richard Adams is my favourite author. I love the books he makes especially Watership down.
Never read him. The stories about animals concept is kind of a put off as it elicits a fantasy feel.

Interesting--Gundella sounds like a pretty rational witch! I'm reading about the Salem witch trials again, and it makes me curious about the pets the Puritans had, and what they thought about them. Some of them apparently had dogs, but did any of them keep cats? Of course, during a 'witch' hunt, any animal could be a familiar. The colonists had cows too, but although they could be possessed, they don't seem to have been considered familiars; was that because they stayed outside? It's all very confusing, but then these people were more than a little confused themselves...
Right, maybe that's why the dogs across the street from me keep getting loose from their owners and coming to visit. One time the woman kept telling me how nice it was to finally meet me even though she seemed anxious at best.

I don't think that's her--looks like Allie's features are more refined-looking. Probably a relative, as you say; the jewelry appears identical.
My intuition is that it's her sister Marion who also died of consumption.

@@whitneycloud9419 it wasn't from a lack of finances as her family was well-off. Though, she has so far rarely mentioned a doctor visit or remedies prescribed.
@@Bawbcaht I think that once tb got to a certain point, there just wasn't anything they could do about it before antibiotics. Do you know about Gerald and Sara Murphy, the couple who was friends with F Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald? They had a son who died after a long struggle with tb in 1937. Very tragic.

There might be some info about Halloween or fall customs in old stories like 'The Legend of Sleepy Hollow,' but I don't think there were any nationwide Halloween customs in the U.S. until the late 19th-early 20th centuries. I remember something about it in 'A Tree Grows in Brooklyn,' which took place in about 1910, I think. Have a good night!

I willlll find some of her books out in the wild. I said the same about Stephen King's hard-to-find Bachman Books with "Rage" included and did so in months. I'm not a fiction reader so I pass up a lot of popular titles because of that.
