Books Have Always Meant the World to the Church
Просмотров 1,3 тыс.2 года назад
Books have always meant the world to the church. The essence of our faith is bound up in the most magnificent of them all: a book of 66 books that has ferried the message of rescue from sin to every Christian in every corner of the world. And from Augustine to C.S. Lewis books are where we’ve treasured and shared the stories of our faith; where we’ve chronicled what we’ve learned about the myst...

So good.
Love this. Thanks
Two white men renouncing CRT. This is laughable. He thinks being Irish and Polish is the same as his children with a dark skin African wife. He is a Republican.
God picks the choicest flowers for his garden and he loves the sound of children’s voices.
This is excellent
worth mentioning: the phrase "blood is thicker than water" is referring to "the blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb". so blood is in fact thicker than water, from a christian worldview.
That one hits
Inspiring!
👍
Fantastic! Thanks Tim!
i agree
Van Til really helps us think as Christians.
Cornelius Van Til was my great uncle. Sorry I haven't gotten to know Dr. Oliphint. I'm sure we'd be friends. My Ph.D. is in Christian ethics. An uncle Kees story. When I was in my twenties I told my grandmother that I was going to seminary. She laughed, "The family business, eh?" I said, "Well, I'm sure I'm not worthy to tie Uncle Kees' shoelaces." She patted me on the back and said, "Oh, don't feel so bad, when he was your age he didn't seem so smart either."
the biblical view of race and gender is simple and correct , i wish everyone could apply this view in their lifes, its unbelivable people fight about gender and race. there are men and woman, love your neighbour .
Praise God and for your suffering that Christ has ordained upon your lives. It’s through suffering and grief that our Heavenly Father uses to humble His children to conform us to His son. Iv had 4 recurrent miscarriages and I will never be the same, and thankful for Christ and how much He has redeemed me and brought me back to Him and the living word that nourishes. I just bought your book! Cannot wait to read it. We desire more children but awaiting on the lord and pressing through the process of fear and the unknown but yet with hope and excitement. Thank you so much for your story and how Layla’s testimony will live forever. ❤
I love Iain Duguid! He's written so many wonderful expositions and commentaries. I love the CSB, too, where he is a contributor as well.
Well now i know. Thank you sweetie
Love this
This sounds like a hyper-locap denomination. The Vast majority of Westminster students are from North America. Do you have any church plants here in the U.S.A. How does your polity differ from the PCA?
I wish Tim Keller could have heard this.
I am reading Come Lord Jesus. So good!!!!! So thankful for you, Dr. PIPER for this helpful book.
Solid discussion. Not a big podcast guy, but both speakers were precise and concise.
I felt like you were retelling exaclty what I went through twentysix years ago. The only difference was mine was a son, Benjamin Shalom Root, who died at 21 weeks. When we buried Benjamin it was a cloudy day but as the service was being preached a beam of sunshine broke through and rested on his coffin. So thankful to know my great God whom my son is with, because of the covenant. And He has blessed us with three more children whom we get to nurture and guide in God's grace. And I am thankful for your help to others who are going through similar situations, as when this happened to me it was hard to find anything to assist me in what I was going through.
Thank you so much for sharing this with all of us. After suffering multiple miscarriages, I found this to be full of hope and comforting on such a deep level. I haven't cried this hard in a long time. So incredibly sorry for the loss of your beautiful daughter.
But Christ says you virgins ( preachers/ pastors), with lamps (churches) are in sleep. I am crying from a longtime "Behold the bridegroom is coming; Come out to meet him." You guys are talking in sleep. Before his coming, the days of last or seventh trumpet will begin, before that trumpet the voice and shout of Archangel or cheif messenger, as mentioned by Paul in Thessalonians and John in Revelation. Why you guys can't receive my words, becoz you are unwilling to listen? Read this book " The great wickedness of Christ's saints, his elect and all Christians" by Jonathan Bijja
The moon is always round! God is always good! Thank you both for sharing your story
Dear Jackie and Dr. Gibson, your story touches, comforts and encourages my heart. We has experienced similar loss. As both of you, we grieve with hope. May your new book bring hope, life and healing to many!
Brave, beautiful, moving, deeply humbling. Thankful to call this wonderful couple friends.
😂😊 is this the Christian Rapper? Timothy Brindle lol trying to figure it out lol
It's him
Thank you thank you for sharing this timely and vulnerable story.
Thank you. I look forward to reading this. We understand something of your pain and your hope. He is worthy x
Two Heavyweights sharpening each other!!!!! Very appropriate and satisfying combination here!!
Thank you, Rev Piper. What an amazing learning tool. I really enjoyed this podcast am in awe of Gods love grace mercy and goodness. Both of you are exceptional in your analogy. I look forward to listening to your podcasts. Praise the Lord.
I think our racial differences are beautiful, but they shouldnt be used to divide us and cause strife. But we are in a fallen world so sadly thats the case 😢
I agree Father Moses would agree, he passed recently. He was an orthodox Christian convert and an African American
Blame the media and woke crowd they are the ones who started attacking whites, before CRT whites and black Christians got along
@@prayunceasingly2029 What Moses, Moses Malone? 😂 surely not the Moses of scripture cause that would go against the lineage of Shem. Moses Malone is through the lineage of Ham. And God made both. No shame in that. His people are of all tongues, tribes and nations (Rev 7:9) since He is Lord of “all”
@josiahpulemau6214 father Moses the orthodox elder who passed recently. He was an African American
I wonder what type of objectivity any member of a dissertation comittee can maintain when they show favortism of one student from the rest. Does this Scholar interview each canidate in a podcast, or just the one who are recording artosts for lamp mode Recording.
This was great! I am very familiar with the name Ian Duiguid as I love my ESV study bible and I love the Reforme Expository Commentary series and the ESV Expositional Commentary set all of which contain his work but I've never seen him or heard him speak. So this puts a face to the name. I'm actually planning on doing a deep dive study through the book of Daniel some time in the near future after I finish Galatians and will be using Ian Duiguid's Daniel Commentary from the REC series which is sitting on my desk awaiting me. I highly recommend the Reformed Expository Commentary series to everyone looking for a good Commentary to help dive deeper into the word. They read very much like sermons and really get to the heart of the passages without getting bogged down in the scholastic details. Not that those are bad and certainly the Commentaries contain much scholarly work and input but there are some commentaries that won't make any sense unless you are a Greek or Hebrew scholar. These are certainly not those kinds of Commentaries. But very good for pastors and also lay people who just want to dive into the word and also very good for devotions as well to supplement your Bible reading. I really enjoyed what I've read from the Revelation Commentary from that set. Very helpful and very Christ centered and applicable yet also helpful in grasping the meaning and intent of the book. God bless
Timothy just released a new albumn and it's amazing! It's called songs from the archives.
I was listening to that just before this interview!🥹
Yes ! It's really good. I like the brotherhood Cypher
He just released Fault Lines with Voddie Baucham! Check it out!
I love Tim Brindle. I would have liked to hear him talk about the affects of slavery on our current society. Though history can’t be applied to our present day as if it’s the same social climate now, the history of our nation can’t be ignored. I’m definitely not a proponent of CRT, and agree there is ONE human race, but there are still prejudices from every people group and the affects of slavery is not yet, if ever will be, overcome. We are only a generation away from the civil rights movement, which should also be examined in these discussions. I wonder how the Israelites would have thought if they had been freed and stayed in Egypt? Would they have their own version of CRT? Overall, great discussion.
I remain interested to know why so many choose to identify with the history of slavery in America. Slavery is not unique to American soil. It actually predates the transatlantic slave trade. Jews were enslaved by Egyptians, North Africans enslaved Europeans way before Europeans enslaved Africans and for a longer period of history. Africans enslaved each other and actually bartered their fellow Africans to European merchants. Even after Europe and America worked to abolish slavery, Africa continued the practice long after and none of it's nations partnered in the fight for abolition with America or Europe. Native Americans enslaved each other and blacks. The term slave originates with the Slavic people from which we get the term. Slavery existed on every continent and context of people you can think of, I'm just curious as to why blacks in America so willingly identify with the slavery narrative as opposed to the narrative of resilience that we as a people demonstrated in spite of it. We don't see other Enslaved people groups constantly reaching for the identity of perpetual victimhood as Americans do and I can't help but wonder if this is due to the Marxist system and doctrine which perpetuates "conflict theory" and the "oppressor/oppressed paradigm" it doesn't have it's roots in our Christian faith to hold on to historic grievances. Human suffering is the norm in history, it's not unique to us.
@BrianShannon547 I'm reading the ecclesiastical history of the English people by the venerable bede, and he says in his book that the peoples British/english in that era even had slaves as well
@@prayunceasingly2029 agreed, they did, however, I was talking specifically about the history of African slavery in the United States.
@@OtisKopp I was responding to Brianshannon
@@prayunceasingly2029 I was actually responding moreso to his post, which was a response to my initial post. No biggie though.
Apologetics should never, ever be separated from Evangelism. It is a subordinate errand boy of tge Pre-evangelistic work of persuasion.
What was Cornelius Van Til. . .take on Dr. Machen's segregationist views amd was he a contemporary of Harvey Cahn and the progressives that taught contextual missiology that is regularly mistook for CRT by Tim Keller's conservative critics.
Today they just vote Missiologists like him off of faculty. Some evangelists can not be contained within our Theological Conservatories.
Systematic theologians are incapable of being evocative. It's why I stopped reading them.
South Gate fellowship is what denomination. Like tge premier league references. Well done.
Slanderous, defamatory, dishonest, and conspiratorial spin. Natural law and common grace both exist, and outsiders are right to correct us when we are sinning (as you are here). “Don’t let the world set the terms of discussion. If you have the Holy Spirit, you have God’s real interpretation of reality” is just garbage VanTillianism. Racism is not an invention of dark-skinned people or “cultural Marxists” (what a fake, dishonest term) - but in our context, is the creation of western empires justifying the oppression of the groups they were conquering. They were the ones who separated peoples to ensure their power and self-righteousness, not the oppressed themselves! Samaritans, gentiles, Egyptians and “the Grecian Jews” that Luke wrote about would be surprised that you suggest that racism is a fictional creation of “cultural marxists.” Likewise your “oppressor/oppressed” paradigm is really clearly expressed throughout the old testament prophets, and redemptive history. Puritans themselves were chaplains on slave ships, an in a Pro-Slavery Catechism published July 8 1847 in the Wisconsin Freeman newspaper (more than a decade before Darwin’s book) - Africans were told that they deserved to be oppressed was because they were the “descendants of Ham” and “they had been cursed” according to Genesis. Subsequently, Darwinism WAS picked up eagerly by conservatives to justify the racism they had already pre-believed. A CRT, or “gender agenda” does not exist, and was NOT part of the “mainstream of American culture” until the conservative media complex amplified it into new boogeyman to self-justify hostility to neighbors - you’re obediently following along, using a parent of mixed-race children as a virtue signal, just like when Trump puts black people behind him at his rallies. Utter worldliness, embodied. Westminster Seminary - Repent. Conservative talking points are neither Biblical, nor are they confessional.
Based. This was awesome - we must learn think God’s thoughts after him and destroy any competing interpretations of reality.
This was excellent, thank you! Very helpful. I particularly enjoyed it because Jonny is from NI like myself.
Thanks!
12:05 How do you spell "elenctics"?! So that we can look it up.
"All knowledge is ethical." Brilliant.
This is awesome! So cool to hear about someone whose thought has been so influential for me. Now I can think of Van Til the Dutch Vegetable salesman !
Thanks for doing this.
