Thanks for sharing, Kari! Was first intro’d to her through John Penney’s Jazz Fest Detroit show on Saturday nights on 90.9. He frequently plays tracks from the Sondheim album she did for Mack Avenue Records about 4-5 years ago. I’ve since added that one and her Petite Fleur album of a couple years ago to my Apple Music library. The Sondheim album is especially fun - she and her musicians completely reimagine his music.

I remember buying the album self titled THE TOM TOM CLUB in 1981/82 (simply because genius of love was on the radio every 3 mins, lol) just addictive song….so anyway, what a great opening track on the album, called WORDY RAPPINGHOOD & the way the songs ends with the Weymouth Sisters saying JUST DONT STOP with there voices echoing the words DONT STOP, STOP STOP….then GENIUS OF LOVE track mixed perfectly immediately with the incredible 4 Keyboard Notes that ruled the 80’s Dance & Club scenes……Also Reggae scene’s aswell……matter of fact, I didn’t realize just how much Tom Tom Club was involved with Reggae until I bought the album & saw the album was recorded & mixed at Compass Point Studios….heavy Sly & Robbie involvement & Steven Stanley who worked with the Marley Family aswell was heavily involved & also pretty much Island Records alumni are all over the album,…I remember saying to myself, wow, there along way from Talking Heads studio & production folks….just brilliant song & the entire album is a fun ride & very creative indeed…..

Out here on the west coast Genius of Love is cherished, pretty much! Especially with the Chicano community, it's damn near sacred, still heavily played at weddings, quinceñieras and every other type of social gatherings! Lol.

Hmmm the 'hook' in this song is very similar to Mariah Carey's 'Fantasy'?

I saw them in 89. Stood right against the stage, directly in front of Tina. She was so close, I could have touched her. I didn't, though. They were great then, and they're great in this.
