This is an excellent rendition of Brahms 78. I trust that yhe extra little bit of urgency that this piece asks for has appeared in the meantime in your playing !!

Thanks for you kind words! Yes, I would like to revisit this one again, and see how I would approach it now. I do think many people play it a bit too fast for my taste. For a more current rendition of me playing Brahms, check out my sonata No. 2 I posted from this post January. Hope you enjoy.

Though created to open Strauss' final opera, Capriccio, in place of the usual Vorspiel, this gorgeous sextet makes us wish that Strauss had composed more chamber music. What gratifying roles for all 6 players. Superb playing here.

This performance was when myself (the violinist) and Mindy (the cellist) were undergraduate students at the Colburn conservatory. It’s normal to use music for a chamber music performance like this; it’s extraordinary that Edgar Meyer played it memorized!

I KNEW the name Roberto Diaz sounded familiar! I wonder how many times I saw him perform during his ten years as principal violist for the Philadelphia Orchestra. And now he is the head of the Curtis Institute. A wonderful work! I chose this performance today because I want to wean myself off the Schoenberg arrangement and because I love the Curtis Institute.

Which of Meyer's string trios is this? I think he's composed at least three of them, and the second one (which was only performed a single time, at the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival in 1987) is the best one, in my opinion. I heard it on NPR at that time, and it was never released.
