This is the start of our 2023 summer cruise. First things first - we have to go 355 nautical miles to get to a crane large enough to lift us out for some much needed maintenance. We have chosen Swanwick Marina to do this and this involves cruising to the south coast of the UK and going around Land's End again. This voyage is with friends whilst the puppy stays at home. I guess they call it a floating bridge that because if you called it the Cowes ferry, some might confuse it with the Cowes ferry to Southampton. I do enjoy your videos. I like their gentle, under-stated style.

    Looked to me like the staining might be condensation from cooking forming on the pipe running over the ceiling. Looked like it had a low point which the condensation would flow too then slowly drop off. Id try cooking with the panel down (or put a pot of water on to boil) see if reapears. Great video, keep them coming.

    • @Bloater

      Our fuel burn is typically 11 or 12 Litres per hour for an average speed of 6.7knots. Add an extra litre per hour if the stabilisers are on (due to the hydraulic pump).

    Appreciate your channel and the attention to detail. Curious...have you ever measured the noise level underway to see what the db level is?

    • @Bloater
      @Bloater 10 месяцев назад

      The noise level varies greatly depending on sea conditions and wind. I have measured the levels on numerous occasions and when underway the very lowest I have recorded is 60.4dB. This would be on a flat sea cruising at 7kts. However you only have to change the rpm slightly and the dB level can increase significantly as some item resonates at that certain frequency. On the whole I would categorise the sound level as pretty quiet - that is quiet enough so that it doesn’t matter. It’s certainly below the threshold that bothers you.

    How much of DIY maintenance cost you in a year "percentage" ?

    • @Bloater
      @Bloater Год назад

      Hi, that is one of the most difficult questions to answer. The actual answer might not sound very helpful but is true. The answer is ‘what ever you want it to be’. Some years you can get away without spending anything, other years you might plan an upgrade or a maintenance job that has been on the back burner. In my case I don’t lift out every year so on the years that I don’t lift out my maintenance costs can be very low, only a few percent if at all. This year my maintenance cost was 50% of my total spend as I have lifted out and did some one-off engine related tasks. My most helpful answer I can give is that I budget between £10k and £20k per year on boating.

    Again a great video and indeed, boat ownership is not just enjoying a calm ride accompanied by dolphins. Many times you have to get down and dirty to keep it affordable and to make sure it was done OK. But just as a tip, anti-fouling is not exactly free of health risks, so perhaps next time when you are busy with sanding, painting etc, make sure to wear protection. You are indeed needed in good health to be able to make these videos. 😀 Good to see that ultrasonic does indeed work and after 4 years I am impressed. Wonder how it will work in the warmer waters of the Med ? Any plans to go there in the future ?

    Meandering on deck might be 'safe', but what if you spot something you need to alter course for...?

    • @Bloater
      @Bloater Год назад

      Hi, everything is happening at a slow 7 knots so if you spot something ahead when on deck you have enough time to reach the controls and take action. Same goes for when you make a drink or use the heads. After a few night voyages you become less worried about small bits of debris because you can’t see anything anyway… and you just plod on never ever knowing what you just missed.

    Hello, new tour channel, love ur non script videos, I have a question, Do y’all still work or just live off you tube, My wife and I current,t live in a freight liner traveling the USA,Canada. We’re thinking of selling our Rv, and buying a nordhavn, I wan5 to do the great loop but NORDHAVN really not good for that, My question is hope I have enough $$$ to live. Yes, we’re retired and have a total of $ 6888 per month of disposal income, our bills r low, we have and extra SBS Retirement funds to pull out if needed to buy a boat, we really don’t want a payment , except insurance and the other monthly things u need, I guess my question is, how is it

      Hi, actually I don’t work but my wife is able to work part time remotely. My total RUclips earnings that I have achieved don’t come close to paying even my annual insurance premium! I do believe that you should never borrow money in order to purchase a boat. Sorry I really can’t help with any suggestions to assist you in your cruising quest.

      Hi, I am currently using TZ Pro v3. It is driving 2 screens at the helm with a third screen being run by a second PC running OpenCPN. There is also a Raymarine E120 at the helm. On the flybridge I have 2 screens that are mirroring the two TZ screens at the helm (mirrored using hardware splitters). I can therefore operate the TZ system equally from either helm.
