Did he say "Maysure"?
The third tuck is the key and the part of all instructions that are never clear enough
So far, you are the best at showing the hardest part....doing the first 3 tucks
We made lanyards at summer camp. That should prepare me for this task. Sadly that was about 55 years ago. ; ' ) Thanks, looks very easy.
Is that you John Wayne? Is this me?
Отрезать ленту лежащими на столе ножницами: ❌ Оторвать руками: ✅
What sissor is that ?
Thank very good
Tutorial the best ❤
Maksh dpt ilmu dari sini cara nyambung tali
SubhaanAllah Alhamdulillah Allahuakbar Allahumma Sol li A'laa Muhammmmad Wei A'laa A'aali Wei Sohbihi Wassalam Thanks so much for sharing this useful knowledge Insya'Allah.
Anyone have any resources on how to do this on a 3/16 thick rope
Oh! We are advertising "Hanging" ropes now! You don't think no one knows what you are doing? Bring it! ( Ret. Vet.)
We are not sure what you mean by that, but this is an eye splice designed for splicing an eye into a rope.
Will this work on a two inch diameter rope? I want to loop the end over a weight sled and pull several hundred pounds. Is this the way to go or is there a better way?
Very well done and it is really easy to follow along..Thanks for the video..
I have always heard this referred to as an End Splice. You can easily put a ring or shackle into the crown knot. I'm looking forward to your promised video on tapering a three-strand splice.
Wtf does back to back mean
I this American bullshit
Greetings, Impressive. Yes...Very Impressive. Chief Ken Bauer, USAF (Ret)
Ano? Tawag sa splice nayan?
Why didn’t you start with a "crown" knot?
That is used for a back splice, not an eye.
Very dissapointing. The lighting is bad, it's impossible to see what you do because you use bright white line, you're going too fast, turning every which way. I know splicing, but if I wouldn't, this vid wouldn't help me one bit. Please try again.
Have a great day dilly! Thanks for the pro tip.
Try going to settings, the little gear on the upper right/and corner of the screen and slow the video down to a playback speed that works for you
For friends siding which is about 30 ft long 10 ft high….will use 2 gal pump sprayer, eyeball some bleach, add Dawn, spray….then use long handle scrub brush like for washing big rig…then scrub and rinse away 👍🏻👊🏻🫵🏻
The John Wayne analogy has really helped me with the most difficult part of this splice.
Very good video!
Firstly, three tucks is quite sufficient, the rope will break before the splice comes undone. secondly, being a right hand lay rope , as you do your tucks, just role the rope to the right to keep your strands nice and tight, i think you have just learnt to splice and now you think you know it all, novice...
My Dad was an At&t Long Lines Cable splicer by profession . He could make ANY splice look easy ! He could make this EYE splice on rope or cable in about 2 Minutes ! It takes me 10 to 15 mins . He did not need any taped ends or marks anywhere either , to complete it . And I Never saw Any one of them fail , or come apart : ) Cheers
Although I don't know how, it's gonna be "something like this"..........
Tried it don’t keep saying it’s easy yes for you pros, mine looks nothing like yours I’ll stick to knots, as it’s impossible .
look up the book 'knots ~ hitches and their uses' by john sharp. this books covers knots splices and other useful uses of a rope.
Years ago where I worked we had an average length box car that we had to pull up a slight hill to line up the next roof fill lid. We used a 11/4" thick 125'rope to think they called it a windlgress. Would wrap 5 wraps around it then start it up. Would break at least once a month and only guy who could splice like the one you did was a retired navy guy. Guys would try using a two halve hitch and would break before moving box car an inch. You make a difficult job look easy. Thanks
It's extremely important to use that specific brand of scissors and that you cut the end off the rope instead of just removing the electrical tape. Also be sure to do it ten times slower than a normal person would.🙄 This guy sucks, find a better video on this.
Screw your John Wayne crap get to the point make a video and get to the point
Well dadgummit I can't do this. I don't have Jameson scissors.
I learned this using hemp which has high friction compared with synthetic fibres, so I can understand the extra length of the splice. What I don't understand is the precise 2'0" measurement at the start. Surely, you would unravel the strands and then make the size of the eye to suit the situation. Wouldn't you?
That 2' was sort of misleading implying math is even needed. Just make the eye the size you need.
I did them in the coast guard and to completely finish it we would tuck the 2nd and 3rd tails into the rope until the ends were all on the same side and then trim excess flush and on nylon would melt ends and smooth out the rope on hemp rope, we would whip the ends to finish to keep the rope from unraveling. To determine rope eye size we would fold rope with enough tail to complete splice with loop as big as needed or desired for rope size.
Clear as mud......nice!
Spliced a lot of rope as a lobster fisherman, get a fid.
Who's John Wayne?
As with most splicing, or 'knots' videos the hard to see white on white on white becomes bewildering in EXACTLY what you are doing. Positions of each strand are thoroughly lost. NOW - if you were to find 3 same diameter and different colored twist ropes, take all 3 apart and rebuild 3 ropes (2 for later) with tri-colored strands and THEN 'whip' the bitter ends with corresponding colored electricians tape THEN you would have an easily understood demonstration tool. Yeah, I "Learned the Ropes" from a professional, nautical rope and cable splicer on the Philadelphia docks when I was 11 years old - almost 65 years ago - and never, ever 'lost it'. Everything from 1/4" to 2" hawsers I was surprised you didn't mention using a Fid. Easy to make and it makes splicing fast and easy. I was taught that three full repetitions were all that were needed on a full strength eye splice (Hemp or Nylon) and that your rolling of the finished splice between the hands "sort-a was OK", but the preferred way to set the finished rope work was to drop it on the floor and roll it with your foot for one or two seconds with just enough weight to change the set to the new configuration.
I was just thinking using a fid would've helped quicken this. Or marlin spike, whichever is on hand. Same difference to me
Should use the trusty scissors to cut the tape lol
He's not old enough to use one of those rules
Is a stick ruler the same as a kindling king ? 😂😂😂
It’s called a Molly Hogan
1:13 years of 😊
Great video. Thanks for the info.
Muchas Gracias siempre se Aprende algo y .MUY UTIL 👍
I would like to see you splice an 8 in scomfrnce tugboat tow rope that way without using a fid!
Old seadogs like you and me could splice a little rope like this behind our backs.
Surely you can do this without talking over music. Why do you RUclipsrs think the music is such a cool thing? It is distracting and frankly rude. Why do you people do this?
I agree. I think they do it because they know im the only mutha fucker in america with out a radio. But that's my choice, so that means i don't wanna listen to their crap music. And if i did get a radio I'll listen to MY own music.
Why are you in Florida?
What was the length of the final eye? How do you determine where to start to finish for a specific eye length? Enjoyed your video
To determine rope eye size, we would fold rope with enough tail to complete splice with loop as big as needed or desired for rope size.
How I did it was First un-lay and tape the ends as he did. Then just bend the line back forming a loop of the size you want. That is where you start your tucks. As he showed there are two fixed points, the first is where the black Sharpie mark was the other was the taped point where the line was un-layed that kept the three strands together.. The distance between will be the size of the eye.
This splice is ok for natural fibres, nylon is done differently.
It works fine with nylon, polyester, or even polypropolene. More tucks and perhaps whipping.
😂. Clown using polypro. I wanna see him try it in heat set 5/8" nylon which is what's used for a lot of 20+ ft boats anchor rodes. Good luck opening it with your fingers.
Just teaching a class for splicing a basic eye! I’ve never had a need to splice an eye for a boat anchor but would love to see that done. Sounds like fun!
On small stuff like that often just twisting the line against the lay will enable you to open it enough especially if it new line. Yes it is a PITA and slow.
