HALLOWEEN by Curtis Richards (1979 novelization)
Excellent review! What a brilliant book. I'm so glad we got chance to read it together. One of my faves of the year for sure!
Somehow missed this message, but here's a reply 3 months late! Yes, doing our buddy read on this was excellent and was some real fun!
I remember reading the first 3 and thinking “damn, cool ideas, wish Christopher Pike wrote it instead” 💀
Well that would be something!
Looks so fun! Happy belated Halloween 🦇
It was, I want to go again next year!
Very cool! I love that rotting corpse pumpkin 🎃
It was super creepy!
Happy Halloween! You found your people. The animatronic figures were especially good.
He was saying something but I couldn't make it out. I assume vague threats against humanity.
fun I think . it was a big coffin for a big guy.
lots of fun!
Ok, I need to read Feral. The only book I’ve read of hers is Dear Laura.
YES!!
This book really lived up to the cover. Great review. If I hadn’t already read it, you would have convinced me to pick it up. I’m so glad we all loved it! I’m still thinking about parts of it… like how to be cool to girls 😂 Thanks again for the buddy read! 🍬
🤏🍆 We should do an other sometime!
@@horrorgardener 🤣 count me in!
I know that earlier in the month that I saw that you and Alex were doing a buddy read. I thought at the time -- I should finally read that book. Well, I have three days left. Thanks for the review and the gentrification angle was something I didn't know about.
There are a multitude of layers in this books. I'm sure you'll enjoy it.
I’m ashamed to say I’ve never read any of Gemma Amor’s books despite owning two of them. I really need to remedy that fact.
Which two do you have?
@ Dear Laura and All that Wander are lost. It’s actually three as I’ve downloaded Christmas at Wheeldale Inn😖
@@anthonyprice4862 Dear Laura was my first, it is excellent. all that wander has some fantastic stories in there and Wheeldale is really a great xmas books, wait until its closer to xmas for that one!
Great Review! I really enjoyed this story and want to read more by the author.
She is a genre juggernaut. May I recommend her novel Full Immersion.
@@horrorgardener Thanks, I will look out for Full Immersion.
The Gemma Amor Appreciation Society sounds a little less culty. Feral is a great read. Thanks for the review.
I'm already part of the Gene Wolfe Appreciation Society! haha
Awesome book haul! I'd love a House of the Devil novelization if they expand into other Ti West novelizations. Snow isn't my favorite Malfi book, but I think it was still a good, fun winter read.
YESSSS a House of the Devil book would be great! Maybe I'll save the Malfi for winter!
Fun video and impressive haul. I like that this one was kind of a reunion video for you and a lot of different writers that you haven't read in awhile. I also think I'm going to have to find the Elizabeth Byrd book. Kid-self would have loved that book and adult-self probably will too. Have you read Malfi's The Floating Staircase? I know it's older but I somehow put a hold on it in Libby and was wondering what I was getting myself into.
No, I havent read that Malfi book yet, but a Sad haunted house story sounds right up my alley.
Great video and haul. I am a fan of Richard Laymon and I am currently collecting and reading as many of his books as I can and he certainly is sleezy.
Oh good. It's been a number of years and I read his books pretty fast so couldn't remember just how his writing was. Glad to hear I'll feel dirty afterwards!
@@horrorgardener haha yeah he definitely gives that affect it’s someone I find kind of weird to describe because he is close to the bone but also find his books fun.
I just checked out I’m Starting to Worry About This Black Box of Doom from the library. Looks like it might be fun. I dnf’d my last Palahnuik, so hopefully the next one will be better! Richard Laymon is totally as sleezy as you remember, haha. I like him though. I have that Mortuary Confidential book, but I haven’t read it. Totally forgot I had it! Great finds!
Have you read the other Pargin books? I love them so much but I just fell behind! I have a great Palahniuk story from when he came here for a reading, Maybe i'll make another story video....
@@horrorgardener I’ve never read anything from Pargin. I didn’t realize he wrote John Dies at the End. I’ve only seen the movie. I’d be interested in hearing the story!
@@Alicia-606 The John Dies movie is so great.JD ive ready are all so good and the Zoe Ashe series is wacky and fun!
Just finished this book, I loved it as well. The final two “phases” were extremely interesting
Glad you loved it! It's such a fun book.
That looks amazing!
it was pretty great!
I've read three and are halfway through a fourth. Figure I'll have read all his material by end-year. Very good.
I've read a couple more since these and they are all so much fun! What is your fave one you have read?
Love it! 👁️💜
👻👻
When someone uses the architecture of their house to the best advantage. Thanks for the strange stroll.
my house is just a brick so cant do much except dress it up as a brick.
That’s great! The UK has never properly done Halloween. Also,Thanks for introducing me to Orange Hell. Love their version of my favourite Misfits song Skulls👍
That whole Orange Hell album is so good!
@@horrorgardener - I did not know how much I needed an album of Shoegaze/Dreampop covers of Misfits classics. Absolutely my soundtrack to this years Halloween. Thanks again, can’t believe I’ve never heard it before!?!
@@anthonyprice4862 I'm so glad to spread the joy of those songs.
No good has ever come from sleeping on a futon in a basement. The running towards you must have been completely unsettling because you could literally hear it coming.
Terrifying!
That’s some real sharkweek! I wouldn’t be spending the night on that futon anymore..
I never stayed there again after that. 100% Sharkweek hahha
I’m looking forward to reading Blood Sugar 🎃🍭 I hope you find some outstanding reads in October!
🎃🩸🩸Me too! It will be fun discussing. It looks very weird!
It's a funny coincidence that I used Robocop as the thumbnail for this video and Blood Sugar uses robocop as slang!
@@horrorgardener That’s true! Strange 👀😂
Those sound good. I haven't read anything I was crazy about this year either 😒
Being disappointed in books is the worst feeling. I think changing genres might be the key!
The fact that a Manborg novelization exists is both deeply weird and a great surprise. I've had a mediocre reading year so far. Most of what I read are new release horror books from the library and they're all so samey. And so many split timelines! Saying that I think you might like The Unmothers by Leslie J. Anderson. Folk horror and the writing is really interesting.
Thanks for the recommendation!
What a great store to have near you! Great haul.
It's pretty great!
There's never been another book that has made me hate the central character of the book so much and his wife. A person would have to be a raging socialist/communist, who hates capitalism to enjoy this. Lol. That'll show all these "homeowners"!
I'm not exactly sure what your are getting at. Are you siding with the Auctioneer here? Please expand your thoughts!
@horrorgardener I'm sorry, I was just very angry at that book. I had just finished it right before i turned on your episode. Sorry. Didn't mean to rant. It seems like the author was very much against capitalism. I grew up on a farm, and watched something very similar play out in the community we lived in. I guess I had a little ptsd moment.
it seemed to me the author was saying, this is what happens when you stick to your values! And that you are too dumb or scared to stand up for what you believe in!
@@williamshafer1996 no apologies necessary. I just didn't understand your thoughts. Thanks for sharing and watching!
If I see someone that has s house costume, that would be epic. Anyone can dress up like a ghost or a devil, but not everyone can dress up like a building.
That is a great soundtrack for a night drive if you're up to no good. The bridge looks like it could tell a story or two.
Never up to good.
I felt like a cooler person watching and listening to this 😂
It's a permanent effect, Welcome to coolville...FOREVER!
That definitely looks like a place I want to hang out 😎
If I had tons of spare cash I would have taken so much home!
There you are. You have to respect both the dedication and madness involved in setting up and running the store. The "wallpaper" was pretty incredible. Glad you found some DVDs.
Still alive! Been so busy this summer with my band and my "day job" that I've been barely having anytime for other fun stuff. Plus also haven't read too many great things so not feeling inspired to talk about disappointing reads!
Holy crap! This is really awesome! Very fitting to the whole Lost Souls universe
Thank you! if you want a free download it up on the bandcamp page i made for this project. possessor666.bandcamp.com/
just found your channel thanks to searching for ''lost souls''. i love love love this tune, its sooo sexy. thank you, i will read SKIN right away!!
aww thank you! I really appreciate the feedback. Yes, read Skin right away, it's so good!
@@horrorgardenerhi again:) i am making my first short film and i was thinking of having your song as the background music. is it possible? i would understand if its not 🤓 btw, its just something i'm making for fun on my free time. if you'd like for me to tell you more about it, i can text you at your social media and chat 😁
@@Iuunueenn I'm interested in learning more and also pre-emptively saying yes. You can email me at Miskatonic1931@gmail.com
I, too have been profoundly influenced by this series. I named my musical solo project "Vivimancer" from a line in one of the books, and I turned a paragraph from it into a song "Hethor's Song" ruclips.net/video/2ptqIXAEip8/видео.htmlsi=DQChcbWjov1DfdA5
Some great looking books on that haul. You’re so lucky having a Horror book store in your area 😎👍🏻
It's pretty sweet and a real treasure.
