I inherited my grandfather’s collection. He lived in Ellensburg and was a rock hound. He was interviewed by the local paper in the 1950’s and it stated he had the largest collection in the PNW. There is one jar full of blue stones labeled Ellensburg Blue Agate. I’d love to show you if you’d like to see some pictures of the collection. I also have a copy of the newspaper article I can share.

I remember I believe it was 2006 the net pens had broke open. Me and my buddy had showed up for the first time in 20 years since the last. We caught a fish every cast I believe the average fish was about 6 to 8 lb. We caught two that were 18 lbs .

Going to cut and polish my first Ellensburg piece today. A bit nervous but feeling better after watching your video. Glad I found you.

I actually lived down the street from him a few years ago and I went up and talked with him a lot (and helped him with his alpaca’s, sheep, etc.). He was an awesome influence for me and I wish I could fly out and see him again.

Great demo of specific gravity measurement. I did the same thing a few days ago with a piece of black jade I found at Jade Cove in Big Sur about 25 years ago. I got 2.68. This does not agree with the density value I find everywhere for nephrite jade. However the stone, when I found it, was rounded and had a brown rind. It took almost an hour to saw a 2.5" X 3/4" oval piece off it, and the saws motor was smoking when I finished ( a diamond band saw meant for stained glass work ). I also did a SG test on a piece of BC jade I bought from a rock shop in N. Vancouver 50+ years ago, it was SG = 2.52. I can't explain the discrepancy. I think density values you find on the web are not reliable. Other stones I have, aquamarine, goshinite (both beryl) have SG (2.66 - 2.69) very close to what's shown in this website: sosnagems.com/pages/guide-gemstone-density
