I knew an elderly lady in a retirement home where I worked. Her husband was in advertising and worked with many radio stars including Jack Benny. She had a nice framed picture of her and her husband with Jack at one his and Mary's house parties. She said Mary was very polite and lovely but actually quite shy. She said Jack was always a perfect gentleman and just a very nice man.

Nothing is perfect but a Jack Benny radio show from the 1940s is about as close to perfect as it gets!

I appreciate the remembering of Frank Nelson.

Oh, I wish he would have talked about the reboot of Jeff Regan where Frank Graham took over for Jack Webb and Frank Nelson took over the part of the lion's eye for Wilm Herbert and then Herb Butterfield. Both incarnations are very different but both really good. The Graham/Nelson version ran for about a year in '49-'50 ending, very sadly with Graham's suicide.

It's a funny show...but it cuts off just as Mary Livingston is about to make her classic gaffe about the "grass reek." Too bad.

All of the shows from this source I sampled have a little bit of the end cut off and some new-agey music is played. The shows are screamingly funny, of course.
