In this walk i started at Shi da night market. Which is a night market generally for university students who are at the nearby National Taiwan Normal University. It has a mix of clothes and food. I then walked to the Shi da campus and then on to the nearby Guting area and explored it there, which is also a pretty nice area.

As its Christmas time I wanted to check out the lights and decorations around Taipei's central shopping district. Come take a look! Ah you are right, it seems to be closed for renovation. You can still go to grounds though so i will make a video around there at some point, its a chill place. Well as for his connection to the ROC or Taiwan is doesn't seem too important lol. He is still known as 'country father' even though he doesn't have much relation to Taiwan, people don't seem too bothered.

A very good walking route. The market is nice. I just came off walking Taiwan for 3 months. I really like Taiwan for food, shopping, temples, culture. The only things may deter me going Taiwan again are earthquake and political instability. For this route, I did the Lim 厝heritage museum near Yuanshan.
Earthquakes are definitely not fun. Not the ones we've been having lately anyway. Never been into the lin an tai grounds (only walked passed). What did you think of it?
@@taipeistreetroaming The heritage 厝 house is very educational. Artistic, many people go there for photography. I saw some Indonesians, ‘nyonya’ baba Besides temples, I have observed the 厝 of Fukien culture. The veranda 騎樓 is said to be originated from Straits settlements. It’s all documented in city bylaws. Japanese saw how British did it, then introduced into bylaws. Most of all Japan colonial buildings were European styles.
@@marktan3668 Yea the 騎樓 are interesting. I've heard they have them in guangdong too. It makes sense to have them in this climate. Its helpful when it rains so thank you to the Japanese. Its not so great for these videos though since you've seen one qi lou you've seen them all.

Nice walk, nice neighborhood! To be honest, cities that are often described as ugly usually tend to be the most interesting and intriguing to me 😀. Taipei seems like a beautiful and super interesting city to me.

@@x3hoppie The only area worth going to imo is the Y mall (the area in the first part of the video) thats got some fun geeky stuff, lots of gatcha machines and there's a cleaver massage place. The other parts are mostly selling trinkets and tat like that and are as you said, mostly closed. K mall (cheng pin) used to be good too but it was closed when i filmed this and possibly still closed now.

I lived in Taiwan for 7 years and am I ever happy I left. I can't even believe I lasted that long. It is filthy, congested, polluted... there is nothing positive I can say about that place. I remember the last year I was there I was actually depressed but once you live in a place for so long it is difficult to just pick up and leave. But that is exactly what I did in June of 2006. I went mad. I sold everything in my apartment. I did not stop to count the cost, to have a plan -nottttthing. I just wanted out. And I left. A few years later in 2016 I went back to Taiwan for 14 days only as I was just passing through. I thought things would be better but found more of the same. I did visit friends I love but I could not see myself living in that madness anymore. Now I live very happily in Europe and when I think about those years I get chills running down my spine. SEVEN worthless years of my life in that HELLHOLE. Yikes!

@@taipeistreetroaming Of course, I know Americans living there quite happily. But I am all into cultured cities, somewhat tranquil romatic charming places such as Dubrovnik, Lubljana , St. Petersburg. Yet, I feel good in Japanese cities because of the cleanliness and that is one thing I could not get pas in Taiwan...the clutter, the stench and the chaos. Anyway...enjoy Taiwan for the rest of us who will never go back!
