Cobalt Lake, June 2024, Gateway to 5040! Summertime Hiking on Vancouver Island! Are You Ready??
We were hoping to summit Mt 5040, but were instead content to check out Cobalt Lake. It took us about 3 hours to get to the lake. We took lots of little breaks as this trail is a true grind, with unrelenting uphill. It was fun checking out the waterfalls after dinner. The rain and clouds came in overnight hiding any views, so we decided to not bother trying to summit, packed up in the morning and headed back down! The trip down is no joke either, with every step needing to be placed carefully. Sad not to summit 5040, but pretty happy with the trip overall, despite getting just soaked on the way down!

Woss Lookout Hike! Get Roped Into A Great View! Better Than Horne Lake Hustle? 90 Minute Rope Grind!
Просмотров 31521 день назад
After spending the night at Schoen Lake, just before Woss, we follow some all trails instructions and manage to find the trailhead for the Woss Lookout. It's about a 20-25 minute walk on a gravel road from the parking lot to the actual start of the real trail. After that, it's a pretty steady grind upwards! Assisting along the way, are a number of ropes. I had a great time on this hike! Fun stu...

Bridal Veil Falls, 2024! 2 Minute Tour! Beautiful Falls, Scenic Forest Loop! Highway 1 Quick Pitstop

In need of a break from driving and a little stretch for the legs, we decide to pull off Highway 1, near Hope and/or Chilliwack to go check out Bridal Veil Falls. One of the people in the vehicle told us it was only a 5 minute walk to the falls, so she got a little grief when we found out it was a whopping 15 minutes each way! They are a nice set of falls! No regrets over finally stopping to gi...

The second half of the trip to Nel's Bight dragged on seemingly forever! In retrospect, we should have taken more breaks rather than trying to power through it. Lighter packs might be an idea as well! There were some interesting info signs along the way, about early settlement attempts in the area. We were both grateful to finally arrive at the campsite. There are definitely more sites to the l...

Lantzville Lookout Loop! Van Isle Hike With Good Return On Investment! ShortSweet Lunch With A View

After having a couple hikes where we never made it to our ultimate goals, we decided to give the Lantzville Lookout loop a go. Taking an average of an hour and 45 minutes to complete, it sounded manageable. It was easy to find the parking area thanks to Google, and there was ample parking there, at least when we went. Even though it was sunny and hot, the trail quickly headed into the trees for...

Long Beach, Tofino, BC on my Costco special, E-bike! With only a half hour left on my Park Pass, I hit the beach and check out the great beyond! Beyond where I've ever walked. Wow! I forgot what a great little hike this was! Very scenic and peaceful. Yes, muddy in some spots, but not horrible. We had a late start to the day, otherwise we would have gone further and spent more time enjoying it all. We've always just parked on the North side of the Nile Creek bridge to access the trail. A great trail with lots to see and do!

Hiking with no views! Some might call that torture! Thanks for checking out the video! Be well!
Gorgeous view!! And such a beautiful day!!
Lovely! Thanks for the hike i'll probably never do!
Always glad to share the beauty I see!
Beautiful falls! 5 min... 15 min... it's all the same.
They are definitely a pretty set of falls, AND fairly minimal effort to get to them! It had been 30 years since the one person had been to them, so we forgave her for her transgression! As always, I appreciate you tuning in and dropping a line!
Jacket off time!... wait no jacket? Skin off time! Amazing climb! You guys did it like pros! Down was probably easier eh?
It was a great climb! An actual jungle gym for adults! I think that jacket off might be a bit more relatable; however, heading into fall, the temperature drop definitely works in my favor! Coming down is usually faster, with gravity giving an assist, but not always easier! Thanks for dropping by! Till the next one, cheers!
Great work you guys! 👉🥾🪢
Thanks Jimbo! It was a fun one! Have you done it?
@@gingerbeeftogo325 no…. but on my pre-bucket list. Still have the Horne Lake Hustle to do as well.

Thanks for sharing !
My pleasure! Views that good deserve to be shared! There will be an upcoming 2D video covering the whole trip in the near future! Have you done this hike? It's become super popular!
That looks high! Is it the highest peak on the island?
@@craigbaxter981 pretty spectacular 360 views up there! Only 5040 feet high though, doesn't even crack the top ten highest for the island! Pretty intense and unrelenting climb though!
It is nice up there. Lots of settlement history. Just finished the North Coast trail last week.
Jimbo, you're a beast! How long did you give yourself for that one? Sounds like a decent year of hiking for you! Happy trails my friend! What's next??
@@gingerbeeftogo325 thank you. I was on a 5 night/6 day schedule. May drop 1 day next year… or combine both trails in 7-8 days. Nootka island is on the list. I do the JDF 1-2x per year.
Della Falls Rules: 1. Check trail conditions online before heading out. 2. Pack insect repellant. Real Deet, not the natural hippy crap that does nothing. 3. Be prepared to hike 14 km to the main camp all in one go, especially early in the season when the first 7km is boggy. Margaret creek is a nice spot, but the bugs are intolerable unless it's late in the season, and the bogs have all dried out. After that, there's the spot on the creek (about 11-12 km in), but it might be occupied. 4. If the bugs aren't too bad, each person must stash a 6-pack in Margaret creek to be enjoyed on the last night camp there. The trail starts climbing after that, so you might as well drop some weight. 5. Spend a night at Love Lake. Or at least take a day trip up there. It's the whole point of going on this trip. If you're planning to camp up there, and you know there will be some snow, then bring a few canned, overly sweet margaritas. Dig down to find clean snow, pack it in your cup, and pour the margarita over top. Voila- frozen margaritas in paradise! No blender necessary! 6. You can't outrun bears and cougars, so be sure you can outrun your friends! Pack pepper spray, so that if you encounter an aggressive bear, you can season your friends with it, and get the hell out of there! Bears have a taste for Cajun food these days.
Love lake is the highlight, the main objective, the place you wanna be. Not taking the Love lake trail is like shelling out $500 for Canuck's tickets, then leaving the game at the first intermission when they're winning. I can't believe your crew is like, "Nahh, we're good. Seen enough. If you've seen one 1500 foot waterfall fed by a massive glacier while standing above a turquoise alpine lake, you've seen 'em all. We'll just wait out here in the parking lot for you." Interesting to see how the place has changed over the years. When I first hiked this in 2004, there was no camp at the base of the falls- at least not that I remember. Then the last time I went, which was the year following all the bridge & trail washouts (10-12 years ago?). That cable car hadn't been installed yet, (formerly a suspension bridge) and I believe the trail was closed. We had to whack through salmonberry and devil's club to get upstream of that, where the creek was nice and wide and shallow, where we could cross. I warned my buddy that we'd be forging the creek before we hit the trail, but did he bring spare footwear for it? Nah. He'll barefoot it- he's tough, lol. Instead of carrying his shoes across like a rational person, he threw them for some reason. Well one didn't make it, and was quickly washed down the rapids lol. I donated the insole of my hiking boot so he could wear my aquasock for the remainder of the trip, and we set up camp at Love lake. I tell ya, without my insole, I was doing all the complaining. When we got back to the trailhead, we met the sorriest pair of foolish teenaged girls from Victoria you could imagine. Obviously they didn't research trail conditions, or ever had been on a backpacking trip in their lives, or considered that mosquitoes exist. They each had a daypack- probably used to carry books to school, and plastic grocery bags in each hand for all their other shit. 🤦♂ These poor kids were absolutely covered head-to-toe in mosquito bites. They had no insect repellant, and I asked them about their tent, because I didn't see one, and one pulled out a Coghlan's tube tent from her back pocket 😂. If you don't know what that is, you can make one from a giant garbage bag by cutting the bottom seam off, lol. It's just a tube of plastic you run a string through, and brace the corners out with rocks. These kids made it to the washed out bridge, about 4km upstream of the Margaret creek bridge, and I'm sure you're well aware how much better the mosquito situation is after Margaret creek. Well I guess they didn't realize what all the obvious flagging tape that marked the detour route was for, so they turned around to go back to mosquito hell at Margaret creek to camp! Now like you, they used the water taxi to access the trail, and they were stuck out here for another night. So naturally, they're like, "Is this your boat?? 😶 Could we get a ride?" Now I'm not an asshole, but I had to explain that my boat was unreliable, and I'm not sure what's wrong with it, and I'm not an outboard mechanic, and it's not like I had tools anyway. I told them there was a very good chance this thing is gonna conk out, and we'll be constructing a sail to get 'er home and be forced to camp on the lake somewhere. We tossed 'em the last of our bug repellant, and told them we'll let the water taxi guys know they need rescue tonight. Sure enough, about 5 seconds after pulling out, the motor conks out in view of the girls so thankfully I didn't look like a total dick that fed them BS. I pulled the cowling off like I knew what I was doing, and thankfully found that it was just a sloppy fuel fitting. Mr. One-shoe had to hold the fitting on the motor for the hour trip down the lake. Without the cowling on the motor, he's now a bit deaf in one ear, lol, jk. Good times!
Hike through that gully above the basin and camp on the ridge to avoid the worst of the bugs. Nicer view from up there anyways. Mind you, it was quite a bit snowier when I did this.
I absolutely loved this hike! Nels Bight is a long one and the views are spectacular!
It was a long one! I certainly wasn't loving it for the last hour in either direction! lol Certainly worth it though. Never made it to the lighthouse, so now there has to be another attempt!
Hey dude, great video! Really love the time lapses. I like to watch your videos to get a sense of what I'm in for if I do the hike. All the time lapses give a great chance to see the trail. Great work!
I like the time lapses because they hide how slow I really hike! lol Thanks for checking things out and dropping in!

Hey Ginger Beef… my Buddy and i just returned from Della Falls! What a 4 day adventure! Thank you for sharing your adventure! We were both inspired!
Jimmy, that's awesome to here! It was pretty awe inspiring out there! Seeing the falls from top to bottom blew me away! Did you luck out and camp right by the falls? And, did you guys get to Love Lake? Hopefully yes! I appreciate the kind words. Now you guys can inspire people to go do it. Glad to hear it was a good trip. So many things to comment but space is limited so I will start with most important. Love this time of year! Everything is warm and alive and green and not only do we get to experience jacket off time but shirt off time!! Show that beautiful body! Neat plane at the end, as always love the art work you did on it! Thanks for taking us with you on this staycation, making it a staycation for all of us!
Hey Ginger Beef…. Jimmy here. Is there a part 3? Did you make it up to Love Lake?
Hey Jimmy, I never did make it to Love Lake, as there was still some snow that made just getting to the viewpoint mildly difficult. I wish I would have kept going, as some of the pics i've seen have been phenomenal. I ended up fitting the trip into the 2 vids, and was too lazy to redo the ending, sorry about the confusion, and thanks for checking things out. I definitely recommend this hike if you can !

Nice. Did you notice that your video is very beautiful and the video quality is great. But your video SEO score is very low. That's why your videos aren't getting many views. I can help you if you want.
Wow. Stunning. Right away i was wondering who did all that wall art then i was like... 4:16 eh? Kind of late in the day to start a journey. Then my brain, being smart and everthing, started putting 2 and 2 together. Of course, the wall art was done by the master of visual affects! The same guy who not only mosses up the trees but then adds mushrooms as well! Such attention to detail!! But i'm onto you! One day you will grace us with all the behind-the-scenes footage. Are we allowed to write whole paragraphs in these comments?
We had to let the visual effects guy go! The costs just weren't converting into subscribers! Expected green screen replacements in the near future. We hope for your continued support through this difficult time
I love the 360° videos! I can focus just on you! Cuz ypu're so damn cute!

I wish! I might have a few more subscribers then. lol. I guess you'll just have to start some other accounts under aliases!! Thanks for subscribing the one time anyway!
Great vid! You both rock!
Hey , Nice video. Were considering trek there from Vancouver for March spring break for few days .Have you encountered any wolfs/bears along the route? We will be going with our 3,5 years old son so want to be cautious. Also how high does tide go ? is it easy to spot? I remember years ago when we camped in Olympic National Park on the beach it was great .
Thanks for checking things out. I don't think you have to be overly worried about wildlife, beyond normal precautions. I've been lucky and never had any issues with bears. They tend to be more afraid of you for the most part. I always carry bear spray just in case though! There are bear caches at a couple spots for storing stuff. The path is fairly well travelled, and we saw someone bringing a stroller in on our way out. I don't know if I'd call the high tide line that easy to see! You can see the damp sand from the previous tide, and there was some driftwood, which would be the very highest it would get. I have a 360 video of the beach on my channel. If you watch it on a computer or phone you can scroll around and check the whole place out for yourself. Safe travels and thanks for dropping in!
Really neat and cool. Those trees are amazing and have great energy. Had the pleasure to cruise the CA-1 & 101 December 2021 around Christmas coming up from San Fran. Enjoyed a day in the Oreck area of Redwoods NP at Lady Bird Johnson area, hiked the Tall Trees area. What an incredible sight those trees are. As wide as a Prius!! So tall we couldn’t even see the top of the crowns with a scope! Have you had the experience of exploring Kings Canyon & Sequoia NP in the Lower Sierra’s yet? Went there this past May and those trees impressed me as much and more than these Pacific Redwoods. Mariposa Grove in Yosemite is mighty impressive, they have few of those drive-thru tunnels. Funny to think carriages went through them. Like your videos. I'm a Canuck 6 hrs south of Vancouver Island. Cheers & Happy hiking, eh!
Thanks for tuning in and dropping a line! Nice to hear you're enjoying the vids. Some definitely turn out better than others, but I do enjoy the creative end of it. All those places you mention would be new to me, but sound awesome! Even looking back on these videos, there are so many places we didn't stop, that I'd love to get back to for another round. Mentioning the carriages reminds me of the Alexander Keith's Brewery in Halifax, where the horse drawn carriages had carved gouges into the stone walls at some of the turn points. Places with history definitely give off some cool vibes. Were you on a bike for any of your travels? If so, you still riding? Thanks again for the support, it's encouraging, and I really do appreciate it! Till the next one!
Amazing!! Now I want a giant samsquatch carving
One on each side as you enter your driveway!! Or.... a row of them where those front trees are??? Nice to see you back here! Thanks for watching!
I loved the smell of these giant trees.
Well, if anything it's your incredible devotion to detail that sets your videos apart from everyone else. Well done.
There you go with the tree moss again... outstanding!! Love it!!
I knew that tree moss was gonna steal the show from the sea stacks and the beach! I never should of put it in! lol. Who doesn't love a little tree moss? Some texture and color to add a touch of whimsy! Or something like that! Thanks for watching!
Pro tip #57 - Try getting caught in a cave when the tide has blocked you in and you're like, "OMG!" and the only escape is through an underground tunnel you find deep within. Use that as a 'hook' at the beginning of your video to pull people in. Just don't die.
Just don't die! I'll put that as Pro Tip #1. Words of wisdom!😁
Omg, i totally forgot about that lol! How do you say freaking awesome in French? "Formidable"!!
18% percent gratuity at a self serve buffet. Can you say suckers!
Well, we at least got the meal and the experience we wanted! Drinks were not self serve, and never in want and the table was cleared quickly, but yeah, the bill was a little painful! No shortage of ways to lighten your bank account in Vegas! Thanks for the view!
My comment was directed at the way the casinos are taking advantage of customers with outrageous prices. Not at you personally. I enjoyed the video. @@gingerbeeftogo325
Oh my! How do you say "yes please!" In French? Oh yeah... "Je m'appelle manger!" I'll come, next time. And we shall eat!! Thanks for sharing!
I think your French might be a little rusty! lol. It WAS quite the experience! I was mildly disappointed with what I managed to eat, could have used some back up! Don't you hold some kind of record for eating for 24 hours straight?
Did a wench serve you your food? A lotta booing going on!
Romania was getting his ass handed to him- I HAD to boo the competition!!! I had a great time even though the food was horrible, and the wench wasn't comely!! Wandering around Vegas with a buzz afterwards was fun too!

Wow! Thanks for that! Beautiful but scary!
Glad you liked it. Yep, nothing but common sense keeping you from a long drop!
Looks like a fun stop and beautiful surroundings.
The mountains on either side do provide nice contrast to the desert plains between them. We stayed at the KOA by Twin Falls, Idaho as well and were super happy with both stays. It had probably been over 20 years since I stayed at a KOA. They're not that cheap, but were clean with good amenities! Thanks again for watching!!
Wow! That's cool. However...if I'm going to be totally honest, i'm a little disappointed. I thought you were going to climb to the top of it and do a handstand. You know, a balanced rock ON a balanced rock!
My self preservation skills may be getting better as I age (and I hate showing off). I saw pictures of people actually on top of the rock, but I was happy to get to where I got. I didn't want to be the guy who ruined everyone's vacation by getting mangled! lol. As always, thanks for watching.
