Just watched the Behrens performance of this aria. I love her passion and she's a great singing actress - but Carol Vaness gives you the notes as well as the passion. I know which version I prefer!

Ricciarelli had one of the most gorgeous tones, even more gorgeous than Caballe and Price. She and Leona Mitchell had truly sumptuous voices.

This is one of my favourite Queens. Certainly my top on-screen choice. You know all the time something else is going on; and those sneaky looks... Her voice also sounds so witchy... And there's a certain lasciviousness in her manners. Great!!!!

Perhaps not quite as limpidly beautiful as Moffo or Caballe in their prime but lovely nevertheless. As I am getting to know her instrument more I wonder if the full spinto repertoire might be more suitable for the weight & timbre of her voice. I will keep investigating & hopefully will find better recorded sound. There seem to be not any studio recordings but maybe I have not yet looked enough. Normally I prefer LIVE recordings anyway for interpretive purposes especially & I hope to find some that represent her work more satisfactorily.

I still appreciate hearing her in this repertoire despite the recording limitations. A really stunning singer that thanks to You Tube I am step by step marveling at her work in avoided variety of roles.

She seems more relaxed here than on the 1968 recording also listed here. A real quality instrument that I am now just discovering.

For Stockard channing's character Cynthia at her funeral reminds me too much of when I had a funeral for my mother back in 2015 my parents divorce was finalized in 1988 and my father heard that my mother had passed and wanted to bring his current wife to my mother's funeral I said dad why do you want to be there you have been legally divorced from this woman since 1988? Long story short didn't have him come didn't let him come.
