Understanding Our Unique ADHD Traits and Symptoms
I am this 44 year old woman with ADHD she's describing (from the Netherlands). As we speak I go through exactly the same thing she describes. My PMS got worse in a year time and also longer. I just started with Zoely, hoping I can get a better grip on the PMS (brainfog, dangerous emotion dysregulation 😅, severely tired and migraine). I've got three small children, so I have to cope with it. I only got diagnosed with ADHD three years ago, when my son got his diagnosis. All my life I have struggled with depression (dysthymia and clinical depressions) and anxiety (severe social anxiety and panic attacks). I have had intensive therapies to concuer it, but it never got any better. I started many studies at university and with some struggles (procrastionation!) I luckily finished one. But as soon as I started working, I got my first burnout. I got my second burnout when i started working again years later. No psychiatrist or doctor ever screened for ADHD 🤷🏻♀️ I feel sooo much better now I'm on dexamfetamine and SSRI. But now I really can't cope anymore 2 weeks before my menstruation. It's such a struggle. I'm so glad you people make knowledge available! I never ever got a diagnosis and treatment if I didn't came across knowledge about ADHD in women myself. My life would still be one long struggle in survival mode all the time,l. I have always felt as if i was wading through the marshes. It feels like I only just now can start with my life and discover who I really am and what I'm capable of.
Great talk !

And of course the epigenetic process of how chronic stress, insecure attachment and interpersonal/cultural micro-traumas constantly exacerbating the underlying traits of sensitivity worsening ADHD symptoms.
I loved this episode. Great to get the latest research updates (huge fan of the host and guest). The only thing I disagreed with was the theory that ADHD could be caused by a virus or inflammation (was only speculative I know) and this goes against a neuroaffirming understanding of neurodiversity. Personally think the underlying common factor that links ADHD brain and body symptoms is having a more sensitive nervous system and immune system. I believe this sensitivity is what underlies all neurodiversity. And would explain why neurodivergent people are more adversely affected by our industrial, artificial, neurotypical Ly-dominated lifestyle. I don’t think ADHDers would have any problems if us humans were still living a Hunter gatherer lifestyle. In fact ADHD would be an advantage in nature.
❤❤❤❤
Nice and helpful conversation ❤❤ good luck

I’m sorry I had to pause to type this, did you just say tapping helps you deal with settler colonialism terrorism? Wow it must be amazing if it helps your conscience believe you’re not actively participating in a racist genocide. Disgusting

Thanks, these are some good reminders, there’s no question that increasing your mental clarity and boosting your drive, comes with quitting. Yes, there are many ways to kick the habit, Steffon Barkload's Quit Drinking Forever is what worked for me, best shortcut I go’ogled that took days without withdrawal.
