Three Nite P 30 Build Video Part 10 Final Assembly
Просмотров 954 месяца назад
I describe and illustrate how to mount the wing on the fuselage of this rubber powered model at the longitudinal position that will locate the wing so that the center of gravity (CG) is at the optimal location. Moving the wing forward moves the CG rearward. Moving the wing rearward moves the CG forward.
Three Nite P 30 Build Video Part 9 Electronic Timer Dethermalizer
Просмотров 4754 месяца назад
This video explains the installation and operation of a dethermalizer (DT) that uses an electronic timer instead of a viscous timer as explained in Part 8 of my video series. This electronic system provides a more accurate way of bringing down the model airplane at a pre-programmed time. The electronic components are available at www.microflierradio.com.
Three Nite P 30 Build Video Part 8 Dethermalizer
Просмотров 3655 месяцев назад
In this video I describe and illustrate how to construct and operate a dethermalizer (DT) for my Three Nite P-30 model airplane. This is a free flight rubber powered model. Using a viscous timer and a mousetrap trigger mechanism, the horizontal stabilizer pivots to a forty-five degree angle after 120 seconds. This causes the model to gently descend in a horizontal orientation. If the model is c...

Просмотров 866 месяцев назад
This video shows and describes the structure and function of the wing saddle of the Three Nite P-30. This is a rubber powered free flight model. The wing saddle supports the wing on top of the fuselage with the correct positive incidence. You can purchase the laser-cut kit for this model from Volare Products.

In this video I show and describe how to build the fuselage of the Three Nite P-30 model airplane. I also explain some of the reasons for its configuration. Options are shown and described for two different locations for the motor peg.
Three Nite P 30 Build Video Part 2 Tools, Adhesives & Building Boards
Просмотров 1306 месяцев назад
This video illustrates and explains tools and glues that can be used to build the Three Nite P 30 model airplane. It also explains building this balsa wood model using the Magna Board building board and magnets, instead of pinning parts to a cork board or foam board.

This is the first in a series of videos that instruct beginners and experienced fliers how to build a Three Nite P-30 free flight rubber powered model airplane. The laser-cut short kit for this model can be purchased online from Volare Products. I designed this model in 2020.
folding prop and nose block assembly for old time rubber (OTR) free flight model airplane
Просмотров 4479 месяцев назад
In this video I describe the construction and operation of the 16-inch diameter folding prop and the nose block assembly of my free flight Smith 1941 Mulvihill Winner model airplane. This is a large "stick and tissue" model that will be powered by a 10 x 1/4 - braided 61-gram rubber motor. It is basically an over-size Gollywock. The rubber motor will probably be wound to at least 40-60 inch-oun...
Radio De-thermalizer for Rubber Powered Free Flight Model Airplane
Просмотров 8310 месяцев назад
Radio Dethermalizer (RDT) allows a modeler to terminate a flight when desired. It is only used on free flight models. The model carries a tiny RF receiver that triggers a small servo when the flier pushes on a button on a small hand-held RF transmitter. The servo arm momentarily swings through a 90-degree arc, allowing a ring or loop on the DT line to slip off under spring tension. This permits...
P 24 rubber powered model flown at the 2023 AMA Indoor Nats
Просмотров 41Год назад
P-24 is not an official AMA event but it is sometimes flown at indoor contests. The P-24 rules basically require a tissue covered stick model no larger than 24-inches in any dimension and weighing a minimum of 10 grams excluding the weight of the rubber motor. A solid motor stick is required as well as a plastic prop no larger than 7-inches in diameter. There are no limits on the weight of the ...
mounting a prop shaft in a pigtail split thrust bearing
Просмотров 409Год назад
This video shows how to mount a prop with a 0.020-inch shaft and hook into an Aluminum thrust bearing. The prop and fuselage shown in the video are from one of my Limited Penny Plane (LPP) models. Many other indoor duration rubber powered model airplanes use a similar thrust bearing including F1L models and model airplanes that meet the Science Olympiad Wright Stuff and Flight event rules.

    5:45 "...lube it after the check-in process." That may be OK for Science Olympiad, but AMA and FAI limit the weight of the _lubricated_ motor.

    Oh my gosh. I've had so much trouble tying a knot that wouldn't slip. That is so simple. Thank you for making this video.

  • @UguysRnuts
    @UguysRnuts 5 месяцев назад

    I use a "Fisherman's knot", which is just a pair of overhand knots, one tied in each end, but around the standing part of the opposing end. It is no more complicated but has the benefit of being symmetrical and compact with the tails running parallel with the motor instead of protruding to one side.

    Hi I noticed that there are 33 Light and 33 Medium. Which one would you recommend?

    • @calgoddard8677
      @calgoddard8677 8 месяцев назад

      Either will work fine. I don't like lube that is too thin if the rubber motor is mounted inside of a fuselage of a model. I don't want thin lube being thrown off against the tissue or Polyspan covering that covers the fuselage frame.

      The roll stability comes from the tip plates on the wings. They effectively provide dihedral.

  • @shmaknapublar
    @shmaknapublar 2 года назад

    Where does the roll stability come in on a model with no dihedral? I've seen indoor models with zero dihedral but how does the model do in turbulent air? Thanks. Looks great!

    • @calgoddard8677
      @calgoddard8677 Год назад

      Tip plates on the wing tips effectively provide dihedral. This P-30 handles turbulent air as well as a P-30 with traditional wing dihedral.

      Tip plates on the ends of the wing provide effective dihedral. This P-30 handles turbulent air as well as a P-30 with conventional dihedral.

      The wing and stab of this Three Nite P-30 are covered with Microlite plastic film which is made in England. It has an adhesive coating. You need to remove the clear backing before applying it to the framework, and then adhering it to the edges with a heating iron. The same iron is then used to shrink the plastic film. Do not over heat the plastic film. You should keep the iron under 195 degrees F. when adhering the Microlite plastic film to the perimeter of the framework. Keep the iron at around 230-250 degrees F. when tightening the Microlite plastic film over open framework. I don’t like to use adhesives such as Balsaloc or Balsarite. Ditto for thinned Velcro cement. They contain chemicals that I don’t want to breath. I could not find the thickness of this product anywhere on the Internet or on the instructions. I think the film is ½-mil in thickness with the clear backing removed. The instructions say that Microlite plastic film weighs only 0.6 oz per square yard.
