I love it! Dancer, Camera, Set, Clothes, Music, Tempo, Story. Everything simple, nothing simple. Like trying to slice water into halves using just your finger. Right halves, left halves. Pull your hand away. No halves. Slow. Fast. Yes. No. Lena is Eurydice dancing on the mountain top. If she stops dancing and if Orpheus goes mute. What becomes of humanity?

My father's family were quiet people, bomb throwers. My mother's were mystics poets and educators who responded to war by condemning the brutes who fought them. There isn't an Irish person alive today who didn't crawl up from the swamp, from under a thousand years of dead bodies to get here. Our language is the same as yours. What the fuck do we know? What is there to say? But for exactly that reason, and the unmistakable ubiquity and reality of beauty, praying makes sense to me. When I kiss my children good night I pray God watches over them. After a thousand years of murder we still pray. Do you believe it? The first time I saw Riverdance I wept knowing it was really about extinction. Not only did we survive it, these dancers told us, we're celebrating it here in front of you! Before the entire world! Dancing our survival! What astonishment and awe and passion I feel watching these works of yours, Lena. What genius and beauty I find in every movement of your dancers and camera. And how deeply grateful l am for your extraordinary vision and boundless generosity of spirit.
