Ex-Google RECRUITER EXPLAINS: This Mistake DESTROYS Your Resume
I have a job interview with google today as facilities technician. Just kinda worried bout things 1 it’s google and 2nd I hear companies like this always has layoffs. Any advice
Guys. Obviously a company isn’t likely to offer you $180,000 if you tell them you’re looking for $130,000. There’s not always something sleezy being done. It’s just common sense. ASK QUESTIONS if you want to figure out what your options are. LOL
Basic law of salary negotiation: "Whoever speaks first, loses".
So what happens when you give them this pay range and they give you a lowball counterpay range of their own? For example, I applied to be a pharmacy assistant at a local private pharmacy. I have 3 years of pharmaceutical experience running the packaging department at my last job (pharmacy went out of business due to poor financial decisions) and was very successful at it. I based my expected pay for the job I applied for on what I was making ($19.24/hr) at the previous job. My range for the new job was $17-$20/hr. They didn't post the amount that they paid in their job listing, but the recruiter said it was $14-$15/hr. I then asked if it would be at all possible to do $16/hr. I was willing to lessen my salary range to meet their range. I was told by the recruiter that the hiring manager would get back with me, and I have been ghosted ever since.
I feel like you could make long form videos on these topics. Especially the one about the brother showing up. Thats crazy😂 did they at least look alike?
I love your presentation and suggestion, but I have one legitimate question. By asking if something is negotiable, aren't you kind of setting yourself up for failure if they decide to just say no? I feel like you are better off assuming it's negotiable and making a counter offer, and at that point you'll see if they really are willing to negotiate. I feel like some people would take the opportunity to nip negotiating in the bud and shut you down off the bat. I'd love to hear your input on this as I have only ever negotiated from the candidate side.
Companies like google should be prosecuted for discrimination on the sense that they only want perfect candidates. I admire those companies more who really give you an oppertunity too rise in life and that believe in you that empowers you.
I work hard and play harder!
I had a Rose too. Glad we over came those people. ❤
if they give me the salary range and ask what I think then what xd
I wish I found your videos sooner. I had my resume professionally refreshed in the last year, there is so much I am learning from your videos. Wish I could afford you right now to help polish my resume.
$1000 for every year of experience.
do we have any insider tips on what to cover in a cover letter? Maybe another video on how to battle ageism. It is alive and well :(. I have also applied for 2 different positions at a large company 7 months ago. When I login to see my resume status one says that it is 'in review' and the other says it was not even reviewed yet. Boggles my mind if I am not right for a position they can't make a quick decision and not let people hanging in limbo.
Great video. 99 percent of this applies to an ideal world, an ideal situation. It’s a different set of rules: 1) When the economy takes a nosedive OR 2) when a particular sector does badly… tech for instance now. These norms are not followed. I’ve seen hourly rates and salaries drop by up to 20 %. As for humans reading resume, not being filtered by AI, sadly that isn’t true either. Just the other day I saw 2465 applications for the same position in 1 day! …And that company was still taking applications. Just to be fair to recruiters.., that’s a lot of resumes to read. Please note that these observations are independent of what this ex Google recruiter said on this video. She’s fantastic, to say the least.
Wow! Clear fresh air.
The first mistake is having a LinkedIn profile
This is an excellent video! The insights on common LinkedIn mistakes and strategies for improving visibility are invaluable. I’ve been actively optimizing my profile and engaging with the LinkedIn community. To further enhance my job search, I’ve been using tools like Jobsolv and other similar platforms to build a strong, tailored resume.
You made a typo in Googleyness 10:42
Lol
Not hiring someone based on a typo is disgusting. Colour and Color are both correct based on the applicant.
Wish it was like the 1960s where you needed minimum qualifications to get an entry level job. I saw a role that asked for 5+ years of experience for a entry level job. That's mid level.
Can we include the certifications which we are currently undergoing in the resume? Example PMI PMP Certofication exam due for completion in 12/2024. Can we mention it in our CV?
Secret #1, you'll be laid off!
New Trumpian philosophy which Republicans have fully embraced is to lie lie lie in your application papers. Morals have become a bad thing in today's climate.

1. Your resume is the first impression! Communicate your value to the Business. Use single column resume for ATS, professional fonts and no images. 2. Recruiters look for the RIght Fit and Qualify for the job. You have to demonstrate in your resume you are the right candidate for the role. 3. The recruiter is looking to fill a specific gaps within a team as best as possible, you might be the right fit but heir looking for fill a certain soft or hard skill. 4. If you're delay in a interview process they might be fast tracking another candidate. 5. Top candidates get offers really quickly. 6. Ask good questions, ask more about the role, what are the gaps within the team, aks what the hiring manager is looking for. 7. Details matter a lot, the company wants to be make the candidate is detail-oriented. Your lack of paying attention to detail can cause the company a lot of money. 8. Look for the kind of culture of the company before going into the interview. 9. Ask the hiring manager about the salary band for the position, but do the research before.
I don't understand the importance of Linkedin or any similar social media site. I mean so what if you lie and say the same thing in 2 places does that make it more believable? Do recruiters think that you will send one so-called specific tailored resume to them and forget what you put on Linkedin or told somebody else? Are social media checks for recent 22 year old college grads? Does anybody expect someone middle aged applicant to act ridiculously where everyone can see it including the recruiter and then reject it early enough in the process so that it was always "somebody else" we selected instead of some illegal reason? And yes you got it, I am a homeowner, the better kind of homeowner, the one with the house paid off . . .
Hi. May we get married now?
Sorry, but my wedding dress is at the dry cleaners
@@Farah_Sharghi Appropriate response 😂
In all honesty I feel that people who have to change their answers to questions to fit a mold, are probably going to be disappointed. It doesn’t say much about a company who can’t sit down and have a fruitful conversation with a candidate about their experiences and goals. Instead candidates are read questions and it’s absolutely insulting. I amwho I am like it or leave it……I won’t lie
I applied all of this in a job application for GitHub but I also added a cover letter with drawings of myself and square checks highlighting my experience + logos of the company I worked for. I was the one who got the job in Europe lol.
Stumbled upon this after failing an interview only to find out all the mistakes I made are talked about.
It infuriates me to see entry-level job postings requiring 5-10 years of experience, offering only a minimum hourly rate of $12 to $15 for a maximum of 26 hours per week. Entry-level positions should be just that - entry-level, not mid-senior level roles starting at such a low pay rate. And on top of that, some companies have the audacity to push a 90-day probation period, just to add a measly $0.40 to your paycheck. It's unfair and disrespectful to the hard work and potential of entry-level employees.
I was let go from a job because I was not vocal enough on the job. I was told, "You need to speak up more." If a recruiter or hiring manager asks me why I left that job, what should I say?
Man, it's wild to hear my side projects, which I'll monetize if I can, are a potential limiting factor in getting hired... How else are you suppose to learn new technologies and best practices if you don't practice them, and if you don't have a job, why wouldn't you be trying to make money from another source?
Sorry, but companies should disclose their pay-band in the job ad and request for applicants. Full stop. That's the COMPANY'S responsibility. It also needs full up-front disclosure of gender-bias gaps in payments. i.e., how does the pay compare between male and female employees? Let's end the gender bias out of the gate. (edit): now, at 8:28 that is an extremely helpful script to redirect. Thank you!
Regarding the attention to detail in resumes: yes, small mistakes can cost the companies but in reality we all know that projects/tasks that have a huge financial impact on the company don't go through several loops to ensure mistakes are caught early. Everyone does mistakes because it's human and that's why there should always be checks. However, I do agree that a small typo on a resume or cover letter is a good reason to reject someone because, if you're not even paying attention to your resume to make sure it's spot on when your livelihood depends on it, how much effort are you going to put into the new job to make sure to produce good and reliable results at work?
So why don't they tell you the range they can pay? Pfft It's all about being able to pay you as little possible.
"What are your salary expectations?" "I expect the most you can pay me."
Nobody is asking leetcode medium questions nowadays. All big tech companies are asking Leet code hard and its variations
Those examples of saved x % or whatever aren't quantifiable for most positions. It's the kind o good advice that has no practical benefit.
What are my expectations? I want to retire to the Mediterranean in 10 years :) Have experienced other amateur questions and tactics used as well to try and make me uneasy, rattle me for purposes of testing interpersonal skills etc. its a game, learn to play it
What do you do in a situation where you don't have the numbers? My seniors don't want to share these numbers that we've achieved as a team. Looks like your video suits senior employees and employees in managerial positions that have access to hard data.
Why would your managers hide this information from you? Sounds like they’re deliberately hiding it
@Farah_Sharghi it's obvious that I'm going to use it as part of my achievements on my resume. That's a tactic to keep you around 😕😕😕
I love your content! It's great compared with other content creators about interview. Could you make one specific for STAR method?
Thank you so much for this, Ms.Farah. As a fresher who just Graduated with no experience, how do I craft my Professional Experience section?
@9:37 The hiring manager caught a typo, honestly?. 'I don't wanna hire this person.' Personally, I wouldn't bother working for such a person; they are likely a micromanager who will complain about ridiculous things that have nothing to do with the real job, such as a missing period at the end of a 2000-word document. These people need to get a life. Have you ever experienced a situation where a less qualified person gets hired at one of these big companies, and you wonder what really happened? My advice to you is to relax; many companies tend to hire people like them. The positive side is that you may have missed the job because you are too smart to manipulate. There are actually very good jobs outside 'the big fours' of any industry.
UNT! Wohoo. I lived in the city all my life and I am switching to a tech career. I have a coding bootcamp certification, also have a couple website. I understand AWS deployment and working on my cloud practitioners cert. What can I do next to help my career path in terms of networking and marketing myself? I Would like to connect 😅🫣 I have a background in project management and also running helped startup a business. I currently do commercial building development with an expertise in commercial roofing. But I want to go after my aspirations. Best
Why not tell me your salary band and I tell you if I am okay with it? I doubt that if I say my expectation is below the band, the company is going to offer me the mid range of the band...
Great content Farah
This is perfect timing, Farah 🎉🎉 I have room to improve on every lesson you named. I have decided to pause my certification studies for November to focus on my resume and my interviewing skills. I want to have multiple examples of STAR, CAR and PAR to pull from. I am a security engineer and after watching this, these methods are perfect for explaining complex technologies and projects that Ive worked on!
Nice! Glad you found this helpful and good luck!
So to the point! I really appreciate that about this video on top of all the golden info, thank you :)
