When you did those simulations, there is one thing you missed out on. Both lizix and sol with those 3 dreadnoughts and a flagship can load way more fighters than barony can. Also consider that ex. lizix can't research non-euclidean and they have much less incentive to go for duranium, so they probably (at least i do) go for fighter 2 so the benefit becomes more apparent. Sol will not go for a dread fleet but a carrier fleet with like 20 fighters. AND on top of all that both sol and lizix get neural motivator at the start so they have a much bigger chance to come across a morale boost or direct hit. You cannot compare a factions fighting capability with placing the same fleets against each other. Imagine having a naalu player with a fleet of 3 dreads and a flaghip cuz that would be pretty dumb.
Hey there, i am not that experienced with TI4. Whenever I play a faction, that uses fighters n stuff I find it hard to produce a lot of them bc of production value of the docks. How would an experienced player solve this?
@@timschewe9117 this problem is solved the best during the drafting of your slice. If you plan to play naalu or sol you need to have a system like fria-abyz that being one with 2 planets with both having 2-3 resource value. If you have double dock in a system like that and if you are lucky enough to get a good attachment (getting scan link early is very helpful) it is possible to have a system with 10 production value. That would allow you to produce 2 carriers and 8 fighters in one go. In my opinion that approach is necessary cuz space dock 2 is not worth sacrificing your tech tree unless you are playing saar.
I don't disagree necessarily but the point of the simulations were just to show how potent Barony's abilities can be. Their Armada ability lets them be the player with the bigger fleet in most situations so they could just as easily have destroyers tagging along to counter fighter swarms
First plant space docks on planets with high resource values. Second build two or more fighters each time you produce instead of trying to build them all at once.
You hit the nail on the head. James, Mike, Kyle and the rest of the original crew brought passion to the table more than anything else. Outsourcing to some shit ass company is the exact opposite of everything we thought James was all about. He went from doing his videos slapdash with a bugs bunny costume and chocolate sludge expecting nothing in return to reading someone else's shit about games he probably didn't know about for no reason other than money. I watched those original videos through my teenage years and it's like James is that friend who disappears from the friend group once he gets a wife. That post of hers is cringe fuckin garbage too. Neighbor nerds is even a bit on the nose here. I get it you moved on, so stop cranking out this sellout shit
Good video 👍 I hope others TI factions will come soon
Thank you. My next video will be on The Winnu
My favorite win I have ever had was with Barony, avoiding a bad initiative order by winning with a final point for an active secret objective.
Their hero coupled with fleet logistics can score those precious action phase secret objectives
Glad to see the 5:40 clip being played at 4:40 so Bimmy could see it before he had to go.
Lol I didn't even think of that
James has been putting out videos before RUclips was a thing. Put some respect on his name !!!
I still like James Rolfe. Yeah, there were some definite blah AVGN episodes when Screenwave was right there next to him for a good while, but he’s defiantly had decent ones in that timeframe too, but those are unfortunately overshadowed by the blah episodes. The last few years, he’s had very good episodes of the show. Of course a show like AVGN going on as long as it has would defiantly have some meh to bad episodes, but those became a vocal point for those rabid against James, yet it’s clear they like him still. If they didn’t then they would quit watching everything he does. Some of their critiques are fine, like when the whole Monster Madness plagiarism came out when someone who was to help with writing scripts when it came to research copied a bunch things from articles word for word and then James and everyone had to redo those episodes in which that guy then wrote for so they could then release the episodes on a timely manner. Pointing out things like that is fine, but them complaining he uses his family as an excuse of not doing certain things as often as he used to is absurd. People have families and they become a priority in their lives. I don’t completely blame James for doing what he can to provide for his family as he’s in a very fortunate position where he’s able to make videos for a living, something most aren’t able to do. Though, I do love whenever James is there talking about a movie he likes the best. He’s so genuine and you see his love and passion for the movie or movie franchise he’s talking about on his face and in his voice. I’m glad we’ve gotten more of those videos in the last few years too. Anyway, this is a very good video. I like how you didn’t get on the bandwagon of hating James Rolfe because it’s the thing to do on the internet, but were able to look at the situation at hand and see what it is as opposed to just taking it and making it into how James is balding so let’s make fun of that or something else that’s lame that people complain about. I hope you’re doing well. Take care!
I have done both warsun barony and Fleet log Barony. I've teched and not teched early and late. Here are my take aways from the faction. You are not only a tech hungry faction, but you are the premiere resource faction. Every time i've done well as Barony I had resource planets in my slice. If you can pair that homesystem with 6 or more resources in a nonhome system you're golden. Now you can build the flagship r2 or even r1 depending on timings. Crucially it usually also means you get to ignore trade, and other factions get to be resource poor usually by virtue of not having as many resources available. This also means that if you were going to get warsuns you can now afford them without turning to others for help. Your Dreads are powerful, but having Warsuns really unlocks alot more firepower within this faction. I dont think people have seen the Barony go warsuns too many times, but NES+Durainum with warsuns just works. Ofcourse they could direct hit it, but there are 4 direct hits in the action card deck and its a very large action card deck. The flagship is king of small scale combat. Being able to sustain and repair every round means they have to send alot of fighters and use dreads of their own to fight this powerful god machine. And the more red tech you have the better this is. Does this always work? No. Sometimes you have Muatt's and Hacans and they bring down individual fleets that can sometimes overpower a barony fleet, but what do these have in common? Usually not destroyer 2. THis is the hidden tech that players often neglect. They shred fighters, and are easily replaced. You should use your resource advantage to build up and take Mekatol rex. You do not care about who takes custodians. You're coming there next and you're bringing much more firepower than they have available, and you're consistently bringing more firepower so long as you have it unlocked and ready to respond. You'll also be able to see usually who on the table is building fleets react accordingly. This is where support for the throne comes in. You either use it as a poison chalice. Offering it up as payment to a greedy player looking for an early victory. "Look i'll take these planets and give you support." Any seasoned player will notice you never said you'd stop at those planets and that you have no incentive not to continue eating into them to help slay them for the table ofcourse. Or you eliminate the biggest threat on the table. You swap supports with the titans player or the Vulraith player. Why do you take mekatol rex? To deny easy mecatol points to the rest of the table. To deny the one taking custodians 6 influence, to stabilize your own influence and best of all. You get to fight there without appering aggressive, but also crucially. It is from Mekatol Rex you potentially have access to all of the control objectives around the table.
While you present a number of reasonable points, I can't say that I agree with you assessment. Here's my contrarian rebuttal as to why Barony still suffers from a number of weaknesses: 1] Instead of a 2C4I start, they have 1.5C3I which limits their early expansion potential. You can take 3 planets with 3 infantry, unless you play Warfare, but then you're spread pretty thin. Barony does NOT have a "top-notch" starting fleet; 2] Your military might is more of a glass cannon in the opening rounds, and the Barony's tolerance for early unit losses is poor. Your experience may differ, but I would be more cautious when up against Argent, Mentak, Sardakk, Titans, etc.; 3] Before those juicy sustain damage-generated TGs start coming your way, you have to unlock the Commander. The easiest/cheapest way is to buy 4 more destroyers, but then your investing in units that have no capacity or the sustain damage ability 😢; 4] Barony's 2 commodities really hurt in an X-1 meta, and your PN may not be as sellable as you think. Your proposed gunboat diplomacy means risking the loss of units you can't afford to sacrifice early on, finding yourself spread too thin and unable to defend adequately and drawing the wrong kind of attention from everyone else at the table because of your early aggression. Your suggested strategic pivot once the Commander is unlocked seems like a plan formed in a vacuum- there are a number of factions that will not meekly yield to your "lightning warfare and rapid dominance" bravado, and the Commander will not be able to fully compensate for when your table shuts you out of Trade; 5] A 6 resource home system is great, but remember you need to pay for expensive units, numerous techs, various spending objectives, etc. The lack of influence impacts your CC economy as well unless you want to use Warfare to redistribute your tokens, but then you won't be unlocking your Commander if your timing is off; 6] Your Commander ability is NOT the equivalent of TG independence, and I laughed when you listed *Centralize Galactic Trade* as an "easily scored objective". Yes, combat will generate some TGs, but you also need to replace lost units, pay for Munitions Reserves, deploy your mechs, research your "crucial techs", etc. I'd be surprised if there's enough left over to achieve a stage 2 spend objective. Also, you make it sound like your opponents are just bending the knee while you're achieving all this glory, which I doubt is really the case; 7] Barony may or may not be "the dreadnought faction" as you claim, but it certainly is a tech-dependent faction. Unless your double-teching early game, your DN2s aren't coming online until R3, and their abilities won't be amplified by the likes of NES, DA or LWD until even later; 8] You are correct that Barony tends to be a late game faction, but with many games lasting only 5 or 6 rounds, that leaves precious little time to execute your scoring objectives. You can always double-score with Imperial, but then you're NOT picking tech, trade or diplomacy to refresh your home 6 resource home system (or better planetary combo). I'm NOT saying that Barony is a bad faction, but apparently my practical experience with them is very different than yours. IMO, they continue to be handicapped by some significant deficits in the post-POK era, and the Commander's ability is not sufficient to generate the kind of consistent wealth you've presented in your video. Happy gaming!🖖
The best space combat faction and best ground combat faction should be two separate categories

Am I the only one who thinks the review of Simon's quest is what ruined james' filmmaking career That damn review that prevented him from being the next adam winguard or darren Aronofsky
I think it's a mix of things (for me anyway). The style off his episodes seemed to get _too_ cinematic. Went from angry basement dweller to, something else. The movie sucked. There was so many "why?", "what is the point of this?", "Is this needed?" etc. moments. Watching him and Mike play a bad game for 2 hours would have been more entertaining. I think the movie flopping killed his passion since there was a massive dip in quality after. First few of the James and Mike Mondays I saw made me realize Mike was the actual AVGN, all of his man-child behavior being inappropriate and getting pissed off was organic while James was calm the whole time and seemed more responsible. All that Screenwave stuff that happened (though admittedly for me by this point I wasn't watching AVGN much anymore so it was more like a nail in the coffin) I got older. First AVGN stuff I saw I was, I was in my teens. While I don't _hate_ inappropriate humor, the appeal is much less than when I was a teen. I never hated James himself though. I am sure the movie flopping hit him hard and unlike Mike, he actually got a life, but that doesn't mean I'll excuse the worse content. Also I thought Board James was great and was sad he dropped that. Unlike when he tried it in AVGN episodes, the more monster movie cinematic attempts just seemed to work better with it.
I grew up on AVGN and also grew up in personality since then. I don't agree with the average AVGN fan because they usually have the same mindset they had when AVGN started and this is just cringe behavior.
While I do agree the quality has decreased, I absolutely despise TheCinemassacreTruth. Yeah you're one of the people who actually care about James and him improving his content, but I feel alot of the community is just people using it as an excuse to hate every little thing James does, says, thinks, etc. even the most minute things, those who have no hope, and are just being huge assholes to him because oh no his videos aren't as good, he's a menace. We're not entitled to anything by James, and while I feel some understand that, it seems alot of Truthers feel like James owes them content, and even if he admits he lacks passion and retires, they'd still mock him or be pissed off, saying he's finally admitted it or he took the easy way out, shit like that. The sub tastes sour alot of the time, I really dislike it. Plus alot of these guys are probably in their 40s now and spending their time complaining about a man of the same age. Do more with your time.
I just got here, i just now started watching avgn and then some of this stuff.. had no idea who this james guy was till just recently... Yall are haters i say that with all confidence. Your upset cuz the dude is a dude... Doing dude stuff. He had a job? He had a wife? Omg.. no way. He made some money and blew it? Holy shit did he have a mid life crisis? No shit was he in between 30 and 40? Yean all that shit happens.. i enjoyed the content he was involved in, way more than any of the gsrbage criticising him his company he keeps.
@@briankirksey3128 Did you watch the video to the end?
@@LeoLuster11 yeah, I think I posted again somewhere, i had to watch other videos to understand some of the context so I 😆 actually went back, investigated the "lore" (I didn't know who the "slobs") were. If someone followed James from the beginning I could see their legitimate anger with it all. I didn't watch the movie he made, but I heard it was two hours long, in one of cena massacre review of someone else's movie he says that movies don't need to be that long. So I actually ended up absorbing alot of useless content, and I mean idk I was entertained that week. Yes at the time I did not know enuf of what I was talking about.
We no longer like James because Mike's massive cock is only 9 inches.
Have you ever watched Mike Matei's stream? THAT GUY is the Angry video game nerd!
Yeah he's hilarious when he rages though
Borderline unplayable? Simon's Quest? Man, James really did brainwash a whole generation against that game.
Yeah seriously. Unplayable? Of all the absolute slop that got pushed onto the NES, Simon's Quest isn't even close to being unplayable.
@@TheUtterchaos To me it was hard in a bad way. I've beaten some hard NES games but I never finished Simon's quest
Truthers are grifting so hard they're starting to pretend the worst games from the NES library are actually good to spite Bimmy. This is horrific.
@@GAMERSHQ5000 Nobody said it's good. Take your meds.
Like Red Letter Media did to the Star Wars Prequels
They still love James. Why else would they care?
It's a love-hate relationship. Not uncommon on the internet
I find it ironic that Mike was ultimately the real AVGN and James was just grifting off Mike's childhood because one of the earliest criticisms was that AVGN defenders felt Mike was just grifting off James to get famous. And now that we fast forward James can't fix his content because there isn't anything really there of substance to pull from. His forte was movie stuff, and even that is dated to just 80's nostalgia slop.
James without a doubt channeled Mike's rage in the videos. Fixating on nostalgia was novel back then. Not so much anymore
The edgy, offensive youtube days have died and been buried. I think after him being out of the loop for a while, he'll just come back worse if he tries to do the same things over again.
I do agree, I like his videos where its just him talking to the camera than the nerd videos. They aren't that bad, just have more enjoyment to them. TheCinemassacreTruthers mainly remind me of FNaF fans that just despise the newer games and Sonic fans on Twitter.
Yeah you're right tbh. Nobody hates sonic as much as sonic fans do
@@LeoLuster11 I said specifically Sonic fans on Twitter, not IRL. I'm pretty sure Sonic fans in real life actually like the franchise, it's just the Twitter fans are the bad apples.
I have nothing against James. Like many other filmmakers, his body of work has its lows and highs. I wish he would’ve made better decisions vis-a-vis his AVGN character and future but it’s his prerogative. I have no idea if the rumors about his personal life are true or not. Traditional celebrities wrote books and had bands that were just as terrible as Rex Viper and the autobio. Maybe he’ll find his stride again or reconnect with his old creative spirit. He could use better collaborators too, like the ones he had originally.
I agree with most of what you said but I can't think of any celeb who started a band as bad as Rex Viper. The only reason I badmouth the band is because James focuses too much on being a "rockstar" instead of mastering his craft
Love it how it went from loving the original AVGN to hating the modern stuff.
Yep. Sad but true
Doug should make more adult content, huh
Interpret that however you want

Great video
Nah. He aint coming back. NEVER.
He will have to retire the AVGN eventually. When that happens his content will improve dramatically. Screenshot this comment. The nerd is time consuming and joyless for him. Once the nerd vids stop his passion will return
@@LeoLuster11 u might be willing to wait, but the world, reality, time, life goes on. It waits for no one. And i aint holding my breath. Screen shot? Lets say u are right, by the time his "content" improves, will anyone care? Will anyone even be there? Or will they have moved on. Hey if ur there, good for u. Avgn, james rolfe, he's done.
If and when James regains his passion could you make a follow-up video? I don't feel like being subscribed to his channel just waiting for the day when he gets good again
I most certainly will. I'm not subbed to him anymore either but I do skim his channel every now and then
@@LeoLuster11 same here with the every now and then thing. But I'm just thinking what if we all just forget. Maybe that part's for the best then, you should watch The retrospective by Dylan the Night owl. I mean it goes in a ton of the detail in my opinion without filler but the video is like four or five hours long.
