Thanks man, just waiting to see all the process. I hope it would encourages me to start one... Cheers from Arg!
Thanks Pablo, appreciate you taking time to comment. Just get started, it’s great fun and very addictive. Like hanggliding but a whole lot less risky😂
Another unique creation from Eight by Six. Nice one Doob.
Thank you kindly!
Awesome work Doug, thanks for both your video series for the Jurgs cup
Thanks Corey, appreciate your support and all that you are doing to support the guitar building community.
Doug - that's a lovely guitar - great job. Cheers.
Thanks Simon
Stunning axe dude!!
Thanks Boab
BTW, you have done a wonderful job on the build.
Thanks
I'm jealous of folks who can apply the black conductive paint without masking around the cavity. Wouldn't want anything to mar that sharp finish.
lol, honestly masking never crossed my mind. I will definitely do it next time 😂
Thanks Paul, never considered the botched drilling cover up but that’s exactly what it would have looked like. I will steel that one for a rainy day 😂
Good call, I think, not using the ferrule block. It might have come out looking like you were trying to cover up a drilling error. (But I’ll keep it in mind for drilling errors of my own. LOL.) This is going to be quite a lovely guitar. - Paul
Epic inlay Dougie!! That would be a good trademark when Eight by Six takes off.
Thanks Boab. Takes forever to do it by hand though.
I also love the black pinstripe in the neck - that should look really classy.
Thank you. It’s a sure fire method for not losing your centre line 😂
I'm so impressed - well done. I should try to do something similar, but haven't been brave enough! I'm enjoying your videos -thank you.
Thank you very much. At the end of the day it’s only wood. What have you got to lose? Go for it 😊
That inlay looks awesome Doug
I was trying to figure out what was going on with the lighting. Glad it's the light and not a problem with the camera light sensor. That top is really cool. Lucky with that router mishap. I never get that lucky, if the router is going to wander it will do it in the most obvious spot! LOL
Thanks. It is a challenging build but as long as all my screw ups are recoverable we learn and hopefully improve as we go. 😊
Thanks Corey.
Love that top Doug
A very off the wall idea 😂😂 very interesting. What happened to the son’s bass? Has that been put on the back burner?
Cheers Boab. The bass is ticking over. Jamie is doing all the work himself, I’m just guiding him through it. He didn’t want to be RUclips famous, so not videoing that one. 😂
@@Doug-Niven 👍👍👍
Awesome idea Doug
More of a suggestion Can’t wait to see this
Very beautiful guitar. The grain looks amazing. I can’t wait to see the next build.
Thanks BbB. Next one is an Iceman style bass. Building it with and for my son out of parts I have kicking about. 🤟
@@Doug-Niven Great 👍 I like bass guitars 😁
It sure turned out nice!
Yer some man Doug! The Bumnote Special is as sweet as a nut, and Bumnote is well chuffed. If I’m going to get the band together, I need to track down Fat Boab. Last I heard, he was working on a building site near Glasgow...
That looks great!
Looks amazing.
Shiny! My precious!
Beautiful guitar, it will be awesome.
Good decision doing that extra bit of relief on the lower cutaway. I thought it was looking a little clunky before you did that.
It was -50 here a couple of weeks ago. The neck looks great! I really like the offset dot markers and the fingerboard looks awesome polished to a shine. I really like watching how precise you are, fantastic work.
-50! ok so I have nothing to complain about, the lowest we got was -4 :) Thanks, I appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment.
Your Granpappy would be proud of you boy!
Awesome craftsmanship!
Thank you for taking time to watch and for your generous comment
Hi Doug - I'm really enjoying your videos - thanks. Sorry I'm so late to this party, but if it's still any help I absolutely love the fine curved Iwasaki file - especially for neck and heel transitions. I tend to work in the opposite direction to you, so that the grain is helping. If the headstock is closest to me and I am working away from it, I find I can use the file at around 45 degrees and work towards the neck with a slight rotating action as well. I find I can get a completely smooth finish that is as good as a scraper or sandpaper. I'm right handed, so performing this motion on one side is so much easier than the other! Cheers - and keep up the good work. I also like the plug for the Guitar Builders Collective - I've posted a few things on there too.
Hi Simon, thank you. I guess it is just a matter of practice. This was my first attempt with the Iwasaki, I found it much easier to use on my current build. Appreciate you taking the time to comment..
Good progress Doug
Such patience! Also prize for best use of a hand whisk in woodworking! Keep up the good work Bro’!
I love work - I could watch it for hours. Especially when they’re building my axe!
Good progress! That cutter still give me the heebie jeebies though 😂
Thanks. So much about guitar building is scary, but that cutter tops my list. Maybe it gets easier with time 😅
That's a nice looking piece of wood for the back. Definitely a good choice to keep the feature visible. Great looking top too! It's too late now but, I don't see why you couldn't route the wiring channels ahead of time. I agree with not routing the other cavities until after the top is on. I like to glue the top to the main body before I rough cut either one. That way I can use dowel pins in the off-cut areas to keep the centreline matched up on both of them. Too late for that too, I know. That is one honkin' big, scary looking cutter in the router! LOL This will be an amazing build!
Thanks, appreciate your comments. Yes, leaving it uncut until the parts were glued wound have been a much better option. I will definitely do that next time. That cutter seemed like a good idea but I did wonder why it came supplied with a three pair pack of underpants 😂
@@Doug-Niven 😂
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Four quid! Hell Dougie, you owe me EVERYTHING!
The Silly Bastard Band made an art form out of its own mediocrity. You could just be the guy to build the next Bastard Special guitar! Superb looking axe dude.
Not a player then plays a nice little lick Looks great and sounds better
Thank Cory. You are too kind.
You must be seriously gutted that the finish isn’t as good as you wanted. When you’re fitting the hardware the axe looks amazing. Thanks for posting you’re videos are very informative.
Thanks BassBin. Yeah, very frustrating. But it looks and feels nice so I may revisit the finish at some point. I appreciate you taking the time to watch.
@@Doug-Niven It was Dave Bumnote that pointed me in your direction. You may remember me, I used to play the bass in a band you were in circa 1982. I was the big glaikit looking bloke. I was known as Big Rab. I was as surprised as you that Bumnote is back from the dead 💀. It just goes to show not everything printed in the Courier is true. Keep up the good work. Your videos are great 👍
@@BassBinBert Aye Bob, plenty of great stories from back in the day. Pity I can’t remember any of them 😂We should catch up next time Goodweed is back in country. You might be interested in my next build intro video. In planning at the moment but coming soon. 🤘
Aye it would be great to catch up do a bit of reminiscing over a few pints with Goodweed. I’ll definitely be interested in your next build. Just watched your final video. I think your axe sounds and looks stunning 🤩
Yo Dougie. Really enjoying your videos. Your explanations of how you do things is excellent and letting us know about your errors is very informative. Keep up the good work. But man, when’s the next instalment dropping… we’re getting desperate. 😂
Yo BassBin, good to hear from you and thanks for watching. Next video will be shite as it is all screwups. 😂
@@Doug-Niven 😂🤣 Can’t wait
Can't wait for the next instalment!
Bumnote! I thought you were dead!
Yo Dude! There was a slight element of exaggeration to that story man. Nice to be remembered.😎@@Doug-Niven
Just binge watched these first 6 episodes. Great work man! I love the design and the headstock looks so cool. Can’t wait for the next episode.
Thanks @JagStar. Appreciated you taking the time to watch and comment.
I was wondering who 8x6 was Neck looks great Doug
Thanks bro, yes, name changed to protect the innocent. 8x6 is the size of my shop so kinda fitting.
Looking good Doug , can’t wait to see more
Thanks man, I appreciate you taking the time to look and comment
Thanks man. It’s been a real pain in the ass but I’m happy with it now. Appreciate you watching and commenting
This looks awesome Doug, great work with the veneers
Good progress Doug
Thanks Corey. I appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment..
@@Doug-Niven you’re welcome mate, happy to watch you in Jurgs cup or whatever you decide to do after
This was very interesting to watch, loved the explanation and thought process being shown! Keep it up Uncle Dougie!
