Cycling in London Explained: Cycleways, superhighways and beyond...
There is so much confusion around the cycle network in London, not helped by TFL's constant name changing, merging of routes, seemingly random route labelling and cancellations of planned routes. Here's a brief overview of the cycle network in London.

It's a great video, I recommend it to anyone who wants to use this bike path for the first time. CS1 is probably the worst of all CS, terribly marked, you have to go with a map, otherwise, you can get lost in many places.

I note that some of your videos on Cycle Superhighways were taken more than four years ago and there have been substantial changes ever since (including the name changed to Cycleways!). For the benefit of your subscribers, would you consider retaking these videos to illustrate the changes / improvements over the years ?

If you ever want to overcomplicate a subject, ask an Englishman. This is a perfect example. If you ever want to improve, you must acknowledge what is really going on. This guy explains it perfectly. Now maybe he can start in on TFL and fares. Although the national sport would have to be changed.

If London Transport really wanted to create a 'cycling superhighway', they would protect cyclists from car traffic by barriers, remove the parking spaces, separate cyclists from pedestrians and learn from the Dutch how to make junctions safe for cyclists. They would also make the cycle path continuous. They just shouldn't be allowed to call it a 'superhighway'. It is not; it is an unprotcted cycle path in a city that prioritises motor traffic over other users.

I wanted to do this last time I was in London but chickened out, with the combined hassles of having to rent a bike and not kill myself by riding on the wrong side of the road (last time I was on the left was 1996!). It looks fun so perhaps next time.

Nice impression! I feel there is much still to be done for bicycle safety. Some images are frightening and did give me goosebumps. I did do a lot of commuting here in Belgium and I see a lot of improvements with the new cycle highways they have made the past 5 years. Hopefully the cycle paths will become a bit smoother and have more protection between cars and cyclists. At the beginning of the pandemic some things started to improve for cyclists, but the past 8 months hardly no progress was made in my country. Keep the videos coming, but try to use a better camera as most footage was overexposed by the sun and also not detailed.

People driving are the minority in London lol. And yet everybody has to pay tax to maintain free on street parking, road maintenance, the NHS costs due to air pollution and cars crashing into people. And put up with the horrible noise, unsafe streets, smaller pavements, slower buses, uncomfortable cycling and dying businesses. But enjoy your drive mate.

I live 200 miles from London, to me London is massively over subsidised on every level. Loders get, pre pandemic £3900 per head spent on public transport, where I live its £45. I hate going to London to work its a nightmare. Apparently they make loads of money in London so can we scrap the Barnet formula and all get the same

Hi everyone! So sorry for the absence of videos recently. Last year had been pretty rough, and then this awful situation has happened. I'm moving back to London in late August/early September and plan to get this channel up and running again. At the moment, I've got a whole new look planned with better quality POV videos of all of the Quietways, Superhighways, commuter routes and more! I've also found some great paths to explore across and out of London that I'll be filming. I'd absolutely love to get some suggestions from people of things they'd like to see; maybe you want more POV videos, or do you want some vlog-style exploration videos/cycle path reviews? Let me know and I'll be lead by what you want to see! :) Thanks! Matt

So whats the 'superhighway' there? It looks more like if someone took some quiet roads and build some connection. In Germany (where I'm from) this is okay, but we wouldn't call it a superhighway (it's just streets), in the netherlands, this is bare minimum/this would be so outdated, because you should avoid mixing cyclists and pedestrians, even if it's tempting.

That looks like a really good route. Protected for good stretches of the journey and not much stopping. Seems like you could get lost easily though if you didn't already know the route. But that last bit of the journey 35:40, cycling contra to the flow of fast traffic looked really hairy.
